"Thanks. Tell my mom that and she'll love you." We got out of the car and Nick knocked on the door.
His mother answered. "Nick!" She gave him a hug. "What are you doing here?"
"Hey mom. This is my girlfriend Amy Jonstone. Amy, this is my mom."
"Hello Mrs. Carter," I said politely.
She smiled warmly. "Please, call me Jane." She led us into the kitchen. "Now what do you have to tell me Nick?"
I looked down at the floor. "Well Mrs. Carter, I-I'm kinda pregnant."
"You are? Oh that wonderful!" Jane gave me a big hug. "Nick, why didn't you tell me before?"
"Because I just told him," I explained. "But we kind of have a problem. You see, we just went to speak to my parents about this, and they don't approve at all and refuse to help us out."
"Oh I'm so sorry sweetheart. I'll tell you what, when you get late into your pregnancy you can come and stay with us here!"
Nick smiled. "Mom really?"
"Of course! Nothing but the best for the mother of my grandchild!"
I gave Jane a hug. "Thanks so much Jane! You're the best!"
"Not a problem Amy. Now you two run along and do whatever it is teenagers do."
"You mean drink, smoke pot, and have sex?" Nick asked.
Jane frowned. "Uh, no actually. Look, just go and do stuff."
Nick gave his mom a hug. "Alright, I'll call you soon!"
I also gave Jane a hug. "Thanks for everything Jane."
She smiled. "Don't mention it."
Later That Day...
"Kari, you here?" I called as I walked into our hotel room.
"Yeah." Kari was sitting on her bed.
"What's wrong? You're always so cheerful?"
"I caught Brian in bed with some other girl today." Her eyes filled with tears. "Almost five minutes after I left."
"Oh Kari, I'm so sorry!" I gave my best friend a hug. "He's such an asshole!"
Kari wiped her eyes. "I know. He tried telling me it wasn't what it looked like, but what the hell was I supposed to think? He and some slut were in his bed together! Oh God, I wanna kill that bastard!"
"Well, I have to go downstairs to see Nick again, you want me to talk to him?" Kari nodded. "Alright, I'll see you later."
I walked down the stairs and knocked on the door to Nick and Brian's room. Nick answered the door. "Hey sweetie."
I gave him a kiss on the cheek and stormed into the room. "Brian you are such an asshole!"
Brian looked down at the ground. "I know, I feel horrible about what happened."
I scoffed. "Obviously not while you were in bed with that girl!"
Brian gave me a pleading look. "Could you please apologize to her for me?"
"What's going on?" Nick asked, confused.
"Kari caught Brian in bed with some other girl!"
Nick gave Brian a disgusted look. "What the hell is up with you?"
"You don't understand, she was my ex-girlfriend. It was for old time's sake!"
"You don't screw someone for old time's sake!" I yelled.
"Amy, calm down," Nick pleaded. "A woman in your condition shouldn't be getting all worked up!"
"What are you talking about?" Brian asked suspiciously.
I sighed. "I'm pregnant."
"You're pregnant?!"
"You're pregnant?!" Howie, AJ, and Kevin asked as they walked into the hotel room.
"For the last time yes, I am pregnant."
"Way to go Nicky!" AJ laughed. "I knew it was only a matter of time before you knocked her up!"
Kevin smacked his arm. "AJ, don't be rude!"
"Congratulations guys!" Howie said.
"Thank you, but that's no excuse for you Brian!" I said.
"Uh oh, what did Brian do now?" Kevin asked.
"Slept with some other girl. Kari caught him."
AJ's jaw dropped. "Man, all you guys are gettin some! Why can't I?"
I rolled my eyes. "Shut up AJ. So what exactly do you want me to tell Kari?"
"Hold on." Brian grabbed a piece of the hotel stationary and a pen and started writing. A few minutes later, he handed me the folded piece of paper. "Here, give her this."
"Alright. I'm gonna go back upstairs now, I'll see you later Nick." I gave him a kiss before leaving.
I climbed the stairs and walked back into our hotel room. "Kari, I have something for you."
Kari sat up on the bed and looked at me intently. "Like, what is it?"
"It's a note from Brian."
Kari looked at me. "That jackass thinks a note is going to make things better?"
"Just read it Kari, how bad could it be?"
She sighed. "Alright." I handed her the paper. She opened it and read it.
"What'd it say?" I asked.
"Here, read." She shoved it at me, and I read it:
Kari,
I know that I'm probably the last person you want to hear from right now, but I want you to understand something. I love you, and I didn't mean to hurt you. I know that you won't believe me but I mean it with all my heart and soul.
I guess you want to know what happened today, right? Well, I was out with the guys and I saw my ex-girlfriend. We talked, and I gave her my address so we could get in touch. A few minutes after you left, she showed up. It was all a spur of the moment thing, and meant absolutely nothing to me. If you want to know the honest truth, we didn't do anything at all. I wouldn't let it go that far.
So now you know the whole story. If you can ever forgive me, I'll be here. You always know where to find me.
"What do you think Kari?"
Kari shook her head. "I don't know if I can believe him."
"I say you at least talk to him. Let him tell you his story face to face and see if it changes for what he wrote to you. If it doesn't, he's telling the truth and you guys should get back together. If he lying, find someone else."
Kari smiled. "That's a good idea Aim, thanks I'll try it!"
I gave Kari a hug before she ran off to find Brian. "I know."
