Chapter 14

Nick came to my room right after Kari had left, and being the nosy, always has to know what's going on kind of person he is, Nick insisted that we go downstairs and listen in on Brian and Kari. I agreed, I mean what the hell? You gotta be nosy sometime.

"Can you hear anything?" I whispered to Nick as we stood in front of the door to Brian's room.

Nick shook his head. "Nope. But AJ's room connects to Brian's, maybe if we go in there we can hear better."

"Okay." We knocked on AJ's door and told him our story. Being a fellow busybody, AJ decided to listen in with us.

"...and that's my story Kari. Do you believe me?" Brian asked hopefully.

"I believe you, but I don't know if I can forgive you."

"Why not? I told you, nothing happened, I wouldn't let it get that far!"

"The bitch was like, in your bed Brian! It probably would have gotten that far if I hadn't walked in and you damn well know it! You're a horny bastard!"

"Ooh, this is gettin good!" AJ whispered, giggling like a little girl.

"She's not a bitch Kari, she's a good person!"

Kari scoffed. "A good person that makes desperate attempt to sleep with her ex for one last night of pleasure?! You practically beg me for it every night, you couldn't just wait?!"

Nick's mouth curved into a twisted smile. "Holy shit!"

"Look, if you're gonna act like this then I guess we aren't met to be together," Brian said, partly annoyed and partly hurt.

"Brian wait-"

"Figures," I whispered. "Kari folds as soon as he threatens to leave her for good."

"What?"

"Brian, I don't want that. I want us to be together." She sounded as if she was ready to cry.

"But you said you can't forgive me for what happened. How are we gonna have a relationship if you can't trust me?"

"I'll forgive you, just please...Brian I'm begging you, let us get back together!" I could hear her crying.

"But do you really forgive me, or are you just saying that because you want me back?" Brian asked softly. Kari was silent. "Well?"

"I...forgive you Brian, I really do."

"Then why did it take you so long to answer?" he demanded.

"I think we should leave," I whispered to Nick.

"No," he answered. "I wanna know if they're getting back together."

"I don't know Brian, it's just-"

"Just what? The way I'm understanding this is that don't forgive me, you just want me back. And I can't get back with you until I know you forgive me."

"How will you know?" Kari asked, still crying.

"I'll know, trust me."

Kari sniffled. "I guess I better go then."

"Yeah," Brian said softly. "Bye Kari."

"Bye." We heard the door open then close.

"Oh damn," AJ whispered. "I never saw that one coming."

"Do you think they'll get back together?" I asked.

Nick nodded. "Yeah. Brian hated getting in fights, I say they'll be-"

Nick was interrupted when the door was flung open and the three of us came crashing down to the floor.

"Hi!" we said sheepishly.

"Go, now!" Brian demanded.

We got up and quickly left the room. "So what were you saying Nick?" AJ asked as we walked towards Nick's car to get some McDonald's.

"I was saying that Brian and Kari will be back together any day now."

"For Kari's sake I hope so," I sighed.

"Kari?" I called as I walked back into our hotel room later that day. "You here?"

"Yeah." I found Kari laying on her bed, staring up at the ceiling.

"I brought you back a Big Mac and fries," I said, holding up a McDonald's bag.

"I'm not hungry," she replied glumly.

"So what happened with you and Brian?" I asked as if I didn't know.

She sighed and told me the whole story. "...so them he like, told me that we can't be together until he's positive that I forgive him, so here I am."

"Do you forgive him?"

"Not totally. But I want to, I hate being without him."

"Then prove to him that you're sorry," I suggested.

"How?"

"I don't know, you'll think of something."

Kari sat up and took the bag from me. She pulled out the fries and began to eat as if she hadn't had something to eat in days.

"I thought you said you weren't hungry?" I asked.

Kari looked at me as she finished her fries and pulled out the Big Mac. "So I lied. I like, couldn't take the smell anymore."

I laughed. "It does me in everytime."

"So whatever happened with your parents? You never told me." I told Kari the whole story, not excluding any details. Kari shook her head. "What assholes. I can't believe your dad did that, I always thought he was so cool."

"Me too."

"I got an idea!" Kari said with a wicked smile. "Let's get drunk again! It takes away all your problems!"

"Kari, I'm pregnant!"

"Oh yeah," Kari said, dissapointed. "But all the more for me!"

I shook my head. That girl was a walking time bomb. I just hoped that she wouldn't explode anywhere near me.
