Tom Gagliano:
There isn't too much information about Tom Gagliano. From all reports he worked very closely with Charlie Luciano in the take over of Joe "The Boss" Masseria. He was close friends with Tommy Lucchese who would serve as his underboss for many years.
Gagliano and Lucchese originally worked for Tom Reina who headed a group, much like Luciano did, under Joe The Boss. But like Luciano, Reina didn't like being under the rule of Masseria. When Salvatore Maranzano came along, Reina switched sides since he was tired of having to pay such heavy tribute to the fat crime boss. Luciano, who plotted to wipe out both Maranzano and Masseria, became nervous that Reina's conversion would threaten his plans, giving too much power to the Maranzano group. Gagliano and Lucchese secretly worked with Luciano, and if Reina switched sides that meant that they too would then work for Maranzano which would have put them in as much jeopardy of being killed as Reina by Masseria. Luciano assured both Gagliano and Lucchese that this would not happen. Masseria killed Reina after finding out about his secret alliance to Maranzano, and much to the disappointment to Gagliano and Lucchese, brought in another Mafiosi, Joe Pinzolo, to oversee Reina's post. Lucchese would later kill Pinzolo and, on the advice of Luciano, with Gagliano, secretly allied themselves to Maranzano, giving Luciano invaluable spies in Maranzano's family.
After the Castellamarese War, Luciano granted Gagliano the remaining portion of the Masseria crime family, which, after his death, was handed over to Tommy Lucchese.
