Vanessa's birth annoucement read "Here she is, Miss America". Ironically, she went on to win the title 20 years later.
Vanessa got into crafting while doing "Kiss Of the Spider Woman" on Broadway. She used the flowers she got at her shows to make dried flower wreaths. She is now into stippling.
She has brought some type of fruit filled dessert food with her every time she has been on the Rosie O'Donnell show.

When Vanessa performed "Colors of the Wind" at the Oscars in 1996, she later stated that she was too worried about her 5 pound Versace dress to be nervous about the performance - the song went on the win the Oscar for best song from a film.
