Rohn of Methir
[Jeff Englert]- Experienced Hardain WarriorThe 5th child (3rd son, born a bastard) of Duke Barthanon, Protector of Methir, Lord of House Branduin. His father, the Duke, is the most powerful man on the Ruling Counsel of the town of Methir. His father is also a shrewd man, having forged strong ties through the well-placed marriages of his children to many of the most powerful families in Harondor. He has cultivated his influence throughout the Military, Nobilty, and Merchant factions. Little happens he does not condone or know about. Though no hint of indiscretion or illegality could ever be traced back to him. He directs his large family like his many successful business ventures, with an eye to the future.
All 8 of his children (from 2 marriages) have been raised in this productive environment, and all contribute to the greater good of the House of Branduin. The Duke carefully oversees their progress, and each moves toward a long foreseen and planned goal. That is, except Rohn...
Born out of wedlock as the result of a brief and rare period of human frailty, after the death of his first wife, the Duke is at a loss of what to do with Rohn. Hardain custom frowns upon titles of High Nobility being awarded or earned by children born out of wedlock. This limitation upon the future growth of his noble stature hampers his usefulness to his family. So the Duke has concentrated on plotting the fertile futures of his other 7 children.
Thus Rohn has been left to create his own future. Something of a novelty among the Branduin family, he is looked upon as a 'black sheep'. He has chosen the 'Mercenary Life'. His future is unlimited, if dangerous. His commission was purchased as the second-in-command of a Troop, but his rise has been swift. The original Lieutenant 'went nuts' during the questioning of a prisoner. He killed the prisoner, turned on his men, and was driven out of camp. He was never seen again. Rohn inherited the Troop's leadership. A lucrative contract was offered to the company that included many new recruits and enough wealth to raise each troop to a Company. Each troop passed the tests, and Investment of Company status is theirs, in exchange for signing a contract with the Corsairs.
His father did not send out Rohn alone. He has been given his own House Guard, 6 veterans from the Family Stronghold. Led by Sergeant Johann and Corporal Lyarr, they include Sevith Spear-Master, Hirod the scout, Ekond the Archer, and Andram the Younger. They are the core of his Platoon and his future.
