Journal of September 5th
Note: this journal was written by Mandor, who has now been named the company's primary historian.
Several days after the exploration of the fountain chambers a night patrol returns without Sevith, who has gone out on his own. Despite Seveth’s reputation for such actions Rohn sends Tallman and two of his scouts out to look for him. They find no trace of Sevith but have a brief encounter with some kind of large humanoid. They return to camp with their news but set out again as dawn approaches. This time Rohn himself leads a group consisting of Mandor’s squad, Tallman, Seth, Netava, Andram, and two other scouts.
A short while later Seveth’s spear is found, a weapon of exceptional quality, but there’s no sign of it’s bearer. The group presses on and along the way finds markings and spoor of what Tallman calls a shapeshifter, a lycanthrope. Soon after the body of a giant is found, most likely the thing Tallman encountered during the night. The giant is obviously slain by the werebeast. Deep furrows are dug into its back and its neck is broken.
Suddenly, several giants attack the group. The battle is fierce but short. In the end four of the behemoths lie dead as another flees, wounded. Three of Mandor’s men are slain and several others injured, most serious of these is Andram. Tallman, Netava, and another scout continue to follow the werebeast’s trail as Rohn and several other men escort the dead and wounded back to camp.
On his way to rejoin the search party Rohn, in the company of two other men, encounters a painted wildman who challenges him. The fight is one of honor but the wildman is slain by all three men despite Rohn’s instructions. Another wildman is discovered, a young boy. He is captured and then allowed to flee by Rohn despite some rather harsh and disrespectful words from Mishak, one of the two men with him, who is disciplined and warned that such behavior toward the Captain will not be tolerated.
Finally, Rohn rejoins the search party and hears Tallman’s report. There is no sign of Sevith but a large band of Kindilaar Haruz, over 50 men, was seen passing nearby. The group returns to camp. Later, Sevith stumbles into camp, disheveled but whole. He says he was ambushed by the man-beast and taken to it’s lair. Mistaken for dead he was left alone and was able to escape. The worry gone from his mind, the Captain calls a meeting of the command staff. A decision is reached. The Sons of the Stalkers will move to the eastern outpost now held by "The Steelwind" company. They are another mercenary company, all cavalry. Tallman, Netava, and another scout go to pave the way.
