Pharmacist

My chemistry occupation is a pharmacist.  Pharmacists, also called druggists, read the prescriptions that physicians, dentists, and many other healthcare professionals write, and then give out the prescribed medicines.  Also on the labels of the medicine they include directions for their patients given in prescriptions.  Pharmacists also advise people on the selection of nonprescription drugs, such as cold medication and  over- the- counter pain medications.  They are responsible for the legal sale of narcotics and poisonous substances.
Pharmacists used to combine ingredients and make the drugs themselves, but today, however, very few pharmacists make drugs.  Large pharmaceutical companies prepare most of the medicines.
In order to become a pharmacist you must have a college degree in pharmacy.  Five years of college are needed to complete the college courses.  Students must pass a state board examination, once they’ve completed an internship and have received their degrees.  If you wish to teach pharmacy you must have either a master’s degree or a doctorate in pharmacy.  If you decide you want to be a pharmacist in high school you should take as many advanced courses in science and math as possible.  Some beneficial classes for students interested in pharmacy are chemistry, biology, and anatomy.  Classes in speech may also be somewhat helpful.
Some institutions where you could receive a pharmaceutical degree are pharmacy colleges such as; The University of Arizona, College of Pharmacy; The University of Southern California, School of Pharmacy; The University of Florida, College of Pharmacy; Rutgers University, College of Pharmacy; Temple University, School of Pharmacy; and many others.  The United States has more then seventy accredited colleges of pharmacy, and Canada has nine.
The positive aspects of this occupation are that the pharmacists help people by giving them medication to help keep themselves healthy and pharmacists receive benefits such as paid vacations and medical insurance.  The negative aspects of this occupation can be very busy hours during flu seasons and they have to always be aware of their patients drug interactions.
Many jobs for pharmacists are available.  Pharmacists are needed to work in community pharmacies, hospitals and nursing homes, in the pharmaceutical industry, and for government and educational institutions.
The salary for a pharmacists depends on their place of employment.  The pharmacists that work in hospitals or medical centers earn an average starting salary of about $42,900 per year.  Those that work in drug stores earn about $49,400 per year.  Pharmacists working elsewhere earn between $28,960 and $52,200 per year.
My research shows a future for this occupation until the early twenty-first century because there may not be a great need for pharmacists due to modern technology, increasing automation and centralization in health services.
The purpose of this occupation is to fulfill a need in the medical field.  Doctors prescribe medicine and pharmacists fill that prescription for a patient.  Their pharmacist can often answer patients’ questions concerning their medication.
The different kinds of problems pharmacists deal with is they have to be especially careful when filling prescriptions and handing out medication because they can be sued for malpractice if their professional activities cause injury and result from performance below standard.
The job of a pharmacist is very important in today’s world of medicine.  Research in the medical field has made many advancements in the areas of  health care.  As doctors and researchers discover medicines that may help to prevent heart disease and various types of cancer, pharmacists will be there to fill the prescription needed.
