This project is written
with the understanding that it will need to be adapted according to each
teacher's needs. Feel free to make the necessary changes.
-
It can be studied as a
complete unit or as section included in a larger Science, Math or Social
Studies unit.
-
The project is geared
towards students working in groups, but they can also work independently
to complete the challenges.
-
The suggested time frame
for the project is 2 to 3 weeks. This will vary depending on many factors
such as computer availability.
-
If you only have one computer,
a daily schedule should be created so that the students can work by group
at the computer for designated periods of time.
-
It is designed for students
to complete the work in Project Set Up, Getting Started, then Challenge
#1, Challenge #2, Challenge #3, Sharing Your Results and finally, to receive
a certificate for completing their work.
-
Each student will need
a journal in which they will record and graph data collected daily, answer
questions included in the three challenges and complete written assignments.
This journal should be used as an assessment tool. It should be collected
during the project, perhaps five a day, as well as at the end of the project.
-
The students will work
in classrooms as well as the media center or computer room.
-
Once the teams have been
set up and the work begins you will spend most of your time observing team
members and assisting them as they meet the various challenges.

In addition to collecting
the required data, you may also ask your students to investigate air quality.
