This huge tree is called the Angel Oak.
It's on John's Island, SC...not far from Folly Island
where we went last November (2005).
It's supposedly more than 1400 years old, and called
"the oldest tree east of the Mississippi". I forgot to write down
the measurements, but, I do know it's 65 feet tall.
And, it's named for the people, Martha and Justin Angel,
who owned the property it's on..generations ago.
The name is not a type of oak tree. If you ever get to
the Charleston, Folly Island area, you should really try to go
see it. It's amazing.
