Official Capitals beat writer for the Washington Post Tarik El-Bashir reported last week that Washington GM George McPhee announced that he has no plans to re-sign Morrison. It was an amicable split, with McPhee calling fellow Hobey Baker winner "a class kid". Not that he needs the praise, but I would just like to add that after hearing the news that he would not be re-signed with the Capitals, he still graciously made an appearance at a local DC elementary school representing the hockey organization. May not sound like much, but I'm sure many players in the same situation would not have done the same. Well done, sir.
While it is certainly a positive that Brendan was lucky enough to be a part of such a stellar regular season team (Presidents' Trophy winners), it means nothing next to the fact that they did not bring home the Cup. In his next remaining years before the "r" word comes, I can only hope that he runs into a team that can give him an opportunity for a solid Cup run. Nothing would make me (and him, of course) happier than watching him hoist that trophy above his head. And no player of his caliber should have to "r word" without having the pleasure of winning it. Good luck, Brendan. I'll always have your back.
