Chapter 1

2 years later

Liz

The loud hard-core rap music was coming from Melanie's room, as always it was. I walked furiously towards her room just when Autumn popped out of the bathroom wearing some skimpy leopart print mini skirt, topped off with a tight black tank top.

'Where you heading to? Escort services?' I asked laughing.

Autumn shot me a look that ofcourse didn't bother me.

'For real mate, where are you going dressed like this?'

'I got an job offer at a studio' she replied nonchalantly while trying to gather her reddish curls into a pony tail.

'As a make up artist or a lap dancer?'

Once again she looked my way in annoyance 'I need to look good to make a good impression'

'What are you trying to impress, you better go in there and change into something more conservative!' I demanded, me being the oldest one of the house had to control few things. Autumn looked at me stubbornly but knew she had to obey me, after few seconds to frowning she went back into the bathroom.

'Now' I turned to Melanie's door 'Lets take care of this gal'

Melanie

It took me a few seconds to realize someone was banging on my door. I turned down the music and made my way towards the door.

'Mel, can you for one day listen to your rap silently' Liz spat.

I shook my head immediately and went back to my desk where my thoughts were buried.

Ofcourse Liz followed me and sat down on my bed beside me 'Don't tell me you're studying for your exam in the middle of this music?!'

I nodded in reply, Liz's blue eyes grew bigger as she looked at me dumb founded.

'And you want to be a writer, writers write in quiet conditions'

'Than I'm one of a kind' I giggled.

Liz got off my bed and sighed 'I lost my hope in you mate' she said 'Atleast you could listen to something else other than rap...pop is enjoyable'

My eyes narrowed and my eyebrows dropped as she mention pop music, realizing what she has done, Liz backed away from me slowly 'Sorry, I forgot, you despise pop after that relationship of yours' she mumbled and walked out. I never told the whole story about what happened between me and Scott, but I know my mates saw how it hurt me.

Amanda

'I hate my job!' I cried out, collapsing on the couch like a sack of flour 'Hate it, hate it!'

'I should have figured you were home' Becky said as she walked into the living room 'I heard whining'

'You would whine too if you would work in the most deserted store in all of London!' I spat.

'I work as a waitress at nights, go to dancing school in the morning and have auditions for roles in the afternoon, how do you think I feel?!?' She looked at me irritated, making me feel insignificant.

'Tired?' I smiled weakly 'Sorry, its just I want to something else than some person you see at a store for the last 20 years'

'Don't be dissing Mrs Lanston' Liz yelled from upstairs.

'Don't be ears dropping!' I yelled back, 5 girls sharing a house, it can all be stressful.

Becky the youngest of us all seemed to be the most career driven one, Liz herself seemed to be looking for a better life as a model but she seemed more stressed out after an audition than after working a 9 hour shift at the pub. Autumn seemed to be perfectly happy with her life, she graduated from beauty school and is determined to be a make up artist, Melanie on the other hands is out drawn in her thoughts of literature, she continues goes to school, sometimes coming home at 12 after being in the library for 6 hours, her friends say she never been the same after some bad relationship. Me..I'm just a store clerk trying to make ends meet.

Autumn

'Congrats Ms Peterson' a young girl at the front desk said 'You must be very happy about your first day at your new job'

'Well, first of all me Autumn, and yes I'm very happy' I replied, anxious to get into my office and work.

'You already have customers waiting for you' she continued to talk, she seemed more excited than me 'Let me show you were to go'

We walked up to the second floor where a studio was, there seemed to be a photo shoot there. The photographer, wearing a cowboys hat nodded towards me and gestured to get to work.

I looked around disoriented not knowing where to go.

'You must be the new make up artist' some cheeky voice said. I turned around and found myself facing a tall dark hair lad, that I have never seen before, I was mesmerized by his eyes and smile.

'I'm first to be worked on' he said taking a seat in the chair, I snapped out my dream and realized I had to work.

I began preparing some blushes and powders, I could feel his eyes on me, watching my every move. I turned around to face him and smiled politely.

'My name is Scott' he blurted out. I was in the midst of applying powder near by his lips, which I had the biggest urge to kiss. 'I'm Autumn'

'Thats a nice name' he grinned 'Matches your looks' I found myself blushing at his remark, and thanking God for this awesome job.

Becky

'I thought you had an audition' Liz said as I walked into the pub.

'No, my agent had it all messed up' I replied moodily 'Now I'm here to make some extra cash'

'Good cause the business is coming alive now' Jack our boss said from behind the counter 'You can start by cleaning few tables.'

'Gee, what an awesome end to my day' I mumbled.

'Is it me or is everyone been complaining lately?' Liz asked thoughtfully.

'I haven't heard Autumn whine yet...she's a prick when everything is fine with her'

Liz's eyebrow rose instantly 'Autumn a prick? What happened to you?'

I sighed heavily while wrapping small apron around my hips 'My freaking teacher says I need to commit more to the class, in terms of time!'

'Did you tell him you already have a full schedule?'

'Yes, but he thinks my job is baby-sitting and I can rely on my parent's support'

Liz could see my depressing eyes, she smiled weakly at me in comfort 'Sorry..' she managed to say.

'Don't be, I'll lasted long enough like this, I'll be fine...just need time alone' I replied, grabbing a wet sponge and began cleaning the tables.
