The Next Day…
‘Wow’ I let out a loud sigh of admiration. ‘You are so lucky.’
‘I am’ Liz nodded in agreement, looking once more at the ring, it shined brightly from the light making it seem bigger then it was.
‘I wish someone would give that to me’ Becky grumped. ‘I can’t count on Sean for that.’
‘Is everything packed?’ Melanie asked as she burst into the door with a stern look. We all nodded at her silently. She looked over the group of bags standing by the door and grunted in approval.
‘Bad morning?’ Becky snickered. She looked her way with don’t-even-go-there look.
‘Melanie…’ Liz stood up from the bed and walked over to her, putting her arm around her shoulder. ‘Anything you want to talk about?’
‘No’ She shrugged casually giving us a weak smile. ‘Really…’
‘Anything you don’t want to talk about?’ I asked.
‘Nope’
‘So how about you join us?’ Becky offered.
‘No thanks guys’ She wiggled out of Liz’s hold and waved us goodbye. ‘I got a thing to take care of.’
We all looked at each other after she left.
‘What now?’ I asked to no one in particular.
‘Hope for the best.’ Liz replied. ‘Expect the worst.’
I didn’t see Scott until I almost knocked him over with my bags.
‘Woah there!’ He held up his hands in the air and gave me a suspicious look. ‘What do you have in there? Hotel’s furniture?’
I gave a strained laugh and shook my head. ‘Clothes Scott, clothes.’
‘I thought you traveled lightly’ He gave me a slight nudge.
‘Maybe you don’t know so much about him.’ I returned the nudge and turned away from him.
‘Me?’ He appeared by me again. ‘Not know much about you? Mel? Please!’
‘Scott’ I groaned annoyed by his energetic behavior.
‘I’m talking here to a girl who slept with her light on at 15!’ My head went quickly to the side. ‘I can’t believe you just said that!!’
‘It’s the truth.’ He said proudly. ‘You’re the girl who wore bright neon green shirt tucked into tight white jeans at my 13th birthday party.’
‘Scott!’ I cried out fearing anyone might hear these things. It also amused me that he actually remembered these things.
‘I also know that you’re hiding your feelings right now’ His face became serious, I knew it then what was coming.
‘Am not’ I childishly pushed him away.
‘I don’t know who in their right mind would give you up-‘
‘You did’ I cut in with a mocking look.
‘I had a reason.’
‘So did he’ I mumbled. ‘Its over, I don’t want to talk about it’
‘See!’ He exclaimed. ‘There you go! Walking around the problem.’
‘What do you want me to do?’ I cried out. ‘Walk OVER the problem and have it rubbed in my face.’
‘Try to see it from his point’ Scott told me calmly.
‘Do you want to see it from my point?’ I asked. ‘Its over. Done with’
I tugged my bags through the lobby and dropped them at Sean’s feet. He looked at me dazed out as if forgetting we were about to leave.
‘Thanks for helping me’ I snapped. He gave me a lazy smile and returned to his thoughts. I groaned at him and walked away.
‘I like U.S’ Amanda stated. ‘Even after all 4 days of hell.’
‘It wasn’t that bad’
She looked at me shocked. ‘You found Sean in a bathroom with some other girl the first day we were here!’
‘You don’t have to remind me!’ I exclaimed defensively.
‘Mel’ Amanda turned to her as she approached us. ‘Would you come back here if you had the chance.’
Melanie took a glance around the hotel, sighing with memories.
‘No’ She finally said.
‘What if we paid you?’ I asked flashing her good old English money.
She took the paper bills from me and examined them. ‘I’m worth that much?’
‘That’s all I have…’
She flashed me a weak smile and stuffed the money in her jeans. ‘No’
‘What about my money!’
‘I’m keeping it’ She blew a raspberry at me and dashed away.
‘Looks like her spirit is coming back’ Amanda laughed.
‘Who cares?’ I cried out. ‘I want my money back!’
