Jodi twisted a loose strand of her brown hair around her finger subconsciously. She didn't realize what she was doing until she tried to pull her finger out which was now wrapped tightly around her hair.
'Ouch' She screamed out, finally releasing it. The nerves were rising up in her once again. She was sitting on a small bench with her back straighten out like she was taught to do. For the millionth time her eyes wondered to the watch. It seemed as if time stood still and refused to move for her own benefit.
'Waiting for some one?' Someone asked. Jodi's head snapped to the side and anxiously eyed the stranger that leaned over her. His navy blue hat and black sunglasses prevented her from recognizing him.
'No…' She answered cautiously.
'Ok then' He shrugged with a careless smile and began walking away. Jodi's eyebrow shot up in the air as soon as she noticed his walk. She could recognize that walk anywhere.
'Sean!' She exclaimed, jumping from the bench and running after him. Sean continued to walk, not stopping at all. Jodi reached him breathlessly and jumped on his back without hesitation. Sean stumbled slightly with the sudden gain of weight on his back.
'Jodi!' He exclaimed gravely, shaking her off but her hold on his neck was too strong to shake off. 'Let go!'
'Why did you walk away' She asked into his ear. Sean stopped fidgeting under her hold and stood still.
'You said you weren't waiting for anyone'
Jodi slid of his back and went around him to face him. 'I didn't know it was you!' She exclaimed, playfully hitting him on the arm.
'What gave me away?' Sean asked, lowering his glasses for her to see his wink.
'Your goofy walk' She stifled her laugh. 'I can spot that anywhere!'
Sean pushed back his glasses to his eyes and shoved his hands into his pocket the way he always did when he got offended or annoyed. Jodi frowned at him.
'I missed you' She said huskily after a short silence. She watched him closely, for any reaction but Sean was already used to her tactics and her tender words now merely amused him. He leaned back onto a street sign that was behind him and took a longer look at her. The plain Jane looking Jodi didn't seem to change in the 3 months he was gone. Her grayish-brown hair was tied into a ponytail like always. Her body was hidden under baggy sports clothes that she seemed to live in.
'I missed you too' He finally replied seeing she was awaiting an answer. Jodi gleefully slid of over to him and slipped her hand into his, giving it a tight squeeze. Sean looked down onto her and shook his head with disapproval but Jodi didn't notice. Her eyes were focused onto the pack of girls standing across from them. As if a hunter showing off her catch, Jodi moved closer to Sean and grinned possessively toward the girls who only dismissed her.
'Let's go get something to eat' Sean proposed, feeling uncomfortable by the staring match that was brewing.
'Yes' Jodi agreed, not letting go of his hand. 'I'm starving.'
'You got money?' He asked.
Jodi looked at him confused as if no one ever asked her that question.
'Aren't you going to pay?'
'What do I look like?' Sean retorted. 'You came here on your own, you pay for yourself.'
Jodi didn't protest, she didn't want to ruin this perfectly beautiful day. Never letting go of his hand, they walked towards the nearest pub where the lunch hour has just begun.
'What exactly are you doing here in London?' Sean asked once they were seated and their food was ordered.
Jodi winced at his question. He now took off his glasses and hat and looked more handsome to her than any celestial beauty.
'Well?' He pressed on impatiently. Jodi chewed onto a straw nervously. She looked at Sean through her thick eyelashes, believing somehow he would drop the subject after her silence but his look defied her. He had gotten stubborn.
'I came to visit my aunt.'
'In the middle of October?'
'Yea, so?'
'What about school?'
'What are you?' She snapped. 'My father?'
Sean narrowed his eyes at her the same way her father did whenever she did something wrong. 'Jodi' He leaned towards her from across the table. 'You're lying to me.'
Jodi's straw was now all chewed up; she dropped it from her mouth and began toying with the napkin near by.
'What makes you think that?' She asked, adding in a nervous chuckle.
'Cause if you weren't you would be able to look me in the eye for more than a minute.'
'You mean stare you down?' She asked with laughter that relaxed her.
'Pretty much' Sean nodded humbly. 'So tell me the truth…why are you in London all of the sudden?'
'Well…' Jodi began. She looked up at him, hoping to see inviting look of trust but only saw look of disapproval. 'I sort of ran away from home.'
