Rick Reed's first year in the majors was as a replacement player in 1994. Many players resent Reed because of that but he is now widely respected throughout the majors.
Since 1997, Reed and Al Leiter have anchored the Mets rotation. But now with Hampton as the new ace, Reed may be the best number three starter in baseball.
