Project Description:
The Architect's Dilemma is a collaborative project
utilizing the internet. This project involves the testing of various
substrates such as clay, sand, and bedrock in order to determine the material
capable of absorbing the most wave energy in the event of an earthquake.
Students will gather, graph and analyze data recorded during testing.
Student's will then share this data with other schools involved in this
project allowing them a chance to analyze pooled data, comparing it with
their original data.. The culminating activity for this project will
involve the student architects in the design and building of a structure
capable of sustaining an earthquake when built upon the ideal substrate.
Plans for those buildings with the greatest structural integrity will be
submitted to this page and certificates will be awarded to the winning
architects.
