That night, Stephanie, Katelyn, and Katie arrived early so that they could get a table. They went inside and found Brian, Kevin and AJ sitting at a table.
"What is he doing here?" Stephanie asked while pointing at AJ. "Because." Brian said. "We need to talk." AJ said. "I can't I'm meeting somebody here." "Well, we can still talk." "I don't want to." "We should." "No! Just leave me alone."
After she said that, she turned around and ran outside. When she got outside she found Nick just getting out of his car with Howie. Stephanie ran over to him and gave him a hug.
"What's the matter?" he asked her. "Nothing." she said.
They walked inside, holding hands. They went over to the table where the gang was.
"Are you guys an item?" Brian asked.
Stephanie looked over at Nick. Then she turned back to Brian and shrugged her shoulders. Nick leaned over and asked Stephanie if she wanted to dance with him.
"Sure." she said.
When Stephanie and Nick were walking out to the dance floor, she looked back to the table and saw that AJ was really jealous. When they got to the dance floor, 'I Need You Tonight' came on. Nick pulled her close to him and he was whispering the song in her ear while they were dancing. After the song was over and they pulled away from each other, Nick asked Stephanie, "Will you be my girlfriend?"
Stephanie was speechless. Then she said, "I thought Howie was your girlfriend." "Very funny. So?" "I guess so."
Nick hugged her and as they were pulling away, he kissed her. AJ stormed out when he saw this. Stephanie watched him and then ran after him.
"What's your problem?" she asked. "What's yours?" "Is there a echo out here or something?" "Very funny, Stephanie." "Then tell me your problem."
She turned around to find everybody standing behind her. She turned back to AJ, "So, what's the matter?"
"Forget you, Stephanie." AJ said.
He turned around and walked to his car, got in, and drove away. Stephanie turned around and faced everybody.
"What was his problem?" she asked.
She looked really upset when she said this. Brian walked over to her and gave her a hug. As he did, she put her head on his shoulder and started crying really hard. Everybody went back inside and left Brian and Stephanie alone outside. After she calmed down, she told Brian that she didn't mean to hurt him.
"Do you like him?" he asked."No. Yes. I don't know. "Well, which one is it?" "I don't know." "I think you do." "Can we just go back inside?" "Yeah, sure."
They walked back inside. Nick came over to them and asked Stephanie, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah." "Are you sure?" "Yes, I'm sure! Can't you just leave me alone about it?" "Sorry." "You should be." "What is the matter? Why are you yelling at me?" "Why don't you listen? Can't you leave me alone?"
Brian, who was sitting at the table with Katelyn, heard all this and saw that Nick was getting really upset. He walked over to them and asked Stephanie to come dance with him. Katelyn was getting really jealous. Nick sat down at the table and put his head in his hands and sighed. Brian and Stephanie got to the dance floor and danced to a slow song. It was 'Heartbreak Hotel' by Whitney Housten. While they were dancing, Brian asked Stephanie, "What is the matter? Why were you yelling at Nick?"
"I don't know." she said before she started crying. "What is the matter?" "Well, I like Nick and everything but I don't want to hurt AJ." "I know that AJ likes you, so he will talk to you. Just give him time. I think you need to apologize to Nick.""I can't." "Why?" "Because he probably hates me."
Back at the table, Nick tells Katelyn to tell everybody that he was going home. After the song was over, Brian and Stephanie walked back to the table.
Stephanie asked Katelyn, "Where is Nick?" "He went home." "Oh. How long ago did he leave?" "About 2 minutes." "I'm going to see if I can catch up with him."
She leaned over and gave Brian a kiss on the cheek.
"I'll see you later." she said.
She started walking away when Brian grabbed her arm.
"Your in no shape to drive." he said. "I'm okay." "No, I'm going with you.""Fine." "Katelyn, can you find a ride home? I want to go with Stephanie." "Yeah, sure." she said. Brian leaned over and gave her a kiss on the cheek and said, "I'll see you later."
Brian and Stephanie got into Stephanie's car and they drove to Nick's house in silence. When they got there, it didn't look like he was there.(His parents were in Fiji and his brother and sisters were with his grandparents in Hawaii.) They drove to the beach and looked for him there but he wasn't there. They drove to Stephanie's house and found him sitting on the front porch.
"Hi." Stephanie said. "Hey."
Brian went inside.
"We need to talk." "Yeah, I know." "I'm sorry." Nick gave Stephanie a hug and said, "The guys and I are leaving for a tour. I also think that we shouldn't see each other anymore." "Ok."
They hugged again. Nick gave Stephanie a kiss on the cheek and walked away. He got in the car and drove away. Stephanie walked inside and ran upstairs and slammed the door shut. A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door. Brian walked in to find Stephanie lying on the bed really upset.
"Can you call, AJ?" she asked. "Sure."
Brian went downstairs. He picked up the phone and dialed AJ's number.
"Hello?" AJ said. "Hey, it's Brian." "Hey." "Can you come to Stephanie's house?" "Why?" "Because she's asking for you." "Alright, I'll be right over."
Brian gave AJ directions. Then he hung up the phone. He went upstairs and told Stephanie, "AJ is on his way."
"Thank you." "What happened?" "I don't want to talk about it."
Brian hated seeing his best friend (besides Nick) like this. He went back downstairs. 10 minutes later, there was a knock at the door. Brian went over and opened the door. It was AJ.
"Follow me." Brian said.
Brian showed AJ to Stephanie's room. AJ knocked on the door and went in. Brian went back downstairs to watch TV.
