Installment 3

Tom (explaining to Tea about the painting that Will and Roseanne were fighting over): It was a poster of a rock group.

Tea: A rock group?

Tom: Yeah, a rock group. It was Roseanne's but then Will really wanted it because there was this really hot babe on it.

---

Rod (to Tea): Your dedication it makes me aroused. Come, I have missed you.

---

Tea: I'm always tense when I don't have full control over a case.

---

Tea: If you want to win this case, um, I have to divorce you immediately.

---

Rod: A divorce? You want a divorce?

Tea: No. I want you to be free. And I wouldn't be divorcing you.

Rod: No, I do not want a divorce.

Tea: No, you see, I'd be divorcing the man I married, the man who is no longer Todd Manning.

Rod: If Todd does not exist then why divorce?

Tea: Because he's the one who committed all the crimes at the lodge.

Rod: No, that was Pete.

Tea: Pete. Todd. It doesn't matter. If he no longer exists he can't be tried.

---

Rod (angrily): No. No. I'm not giving you a divorce. No way. No how.

Tea: You sound a lot like Todd.

---

Tea (after Rod asks why she doesn't divorce Todd for mental cruelty): Because it won't get you your freedom. That's the whole point of the divorce.

Rod: I do not want my freedom.

Tea: Of course you do, Rod. You don't want to be punished for Todd's mistakes.

Rod: No. If being free is free of you I would rather go to jail.

---

Tea: It was a marriage in name only anyway.

Rod: ...but I was working on it.

Tea: Look, the divorce is simply a legal maneuver it doesn't mean I'm going anywhere.

Rod: Then we will marry again after the trial?

---

Rod: When I am put together again I have a lot to offer.

---

Rod: We could go to the ballet and the opera or we could sit here and talk. I'm very good at the talk.

Tea: Oh, I've notice.

Rod: I...no divorce.

---

Rod: I want to add up to someone who's worthy of you, Tea. Please don't leave me.

---

Rod (about Miss Perkins): A lovely woman but she never had a proper loving, though.

---

Rod (to Sam): I...Todd brought you here to stop the divorcing and now I want you to stop the divorcing also.

---

Rod: I need Tea.

---

Rod (to Tea): If I lose you then what do I have?

---

Rod (to Tea): I know I will love you.

---

Tea (to Sam while Todd is eavesdropping): Well, I can't deny that I am drawn to Rod and Tom is very sweet. You know, I see both of those men in Todd...but what about Pete. I mean, if he's integrated where does all that violence and anger go? And Miss Perkins? Help. I don't even...I've never even met her. And I don't think I get to pick and choose who stays and who goes.

---

Sam: If it's any consolation, though, whoever's left, it won't be the Todd you used to know.

Tea: The irony is that, uh, I love Todd.

---

Rod: Tea, if you need a divorce to prove that I love you then divorce.

Tea: Well, it'll work out.

---

Tom: I don't even know what's true anymore.

---

Tom: I don't want Pete to win.

---

Tom: Pete's like my so-called father Peter and I don't want to be like that. I want to be like you, Sam. I want...I think you're the kind of guy that Tea could learn to love.

---

Todd: Even daddies make mistakes, Starr.

Starr: Not my daddy.

---

Todd (on the phone): Hey, Briggs, it's me Todd Manning but call me Tom, please.

---

Tea: Listen, I'm not...I'm not abandoning you.

Rod: No matter what?

Tea: No matter what.

---

Tea (after telling Carlotta about the divorce): He wants to remarry me.

Carlotta: What? You can't do that.

Tea: Carlotta, he is a sick man but he's gonna get well.

Carlotta: Tea...you deserve so much better than this.

Tea: I know...I know you just want me to be happy.

Carlotta: And safe. How about safe? What about the evil, abusive, hurtful Todd? What if he comes back?

Tea: It could happen.

---

Carlotta (to Tea): Let's look ahead. I know how important children are to you. Do you want them with this man?

---

Carlotta: Tea, you need to recover too. You know, you and Roseanne are a lot more alike than you care to admit.

Tea: That is not true.

Carlotta: Oh, but it is. You both have been so damaged as children that you pick men who are so wrong for you and you end up getting hurt. How many more times, Tea?

---

Tea: I've lost one love already I don't want to lose another. I know that Todd has a dangerous, scary side but there are tender, loving sides as well and my heart tells me to trust that they'll win out in the end.

---

Rod: Kelly. Oh, and my incredibly handsome nephew, Kevin.

Kelly: I am here on business. Who are you today?

Rod: I want to have sex with you right now.

Kelly: Oh, great, we're working with Rod.

---

Rod: Oh, Kevin, you do not know me at all. I am a lover not a fighter.

---

Rod (fighting over the briefcase of cash with Kevin): I am not a complete psychotic.

---

Rod (to Kelly): You have a good looking case.

---

Rod: The thing, Tea, that I have fear of, is losing you.

Tea: Hey...hey, we already talked about that, okay? The divorce is just a legal strategy. I'm not going anywhere.

Rod: You swear?

Tea: I swear. I swear. Once this trial is over we'll have a big celebration.

Rod: A celebration. I've never had a celebration.

Tea: Well, then maybe it's time you had one.

Rod: ...and Tom, that poor pathetic moron, he never even had a birthday party.

---

Tea: Both of us will work on, um, on putting Todd back together again...all of the pieces of Todd back together. I know that...

Rod: No. No. No. Not Todd. Todd was not nice to you. I...I...I do not ever want to see Todd again.

---

Rod: What about me, huh? What about Rod? I'm the one who loves you. I'm the one who knows how to...how to treat you.

Tea: Oh, I don't want to lose you either, Rod. I'm sure that you'll end up being a big part of the new Thomas Todd Manning when we put all the pieces back together.

Rod: You are sure?

Tea: Yeah, I'm sure. And...and...and Tom, that sweet gentle boy that I always knew was in there, he'll be a part of you too. Miss Perkins...I'm not so sure about.

Rod: I am scared. I...I need to know, will you be here, will you still want to be with me when this is all over?

---

Rod (leaving a phone message for Kelly): Kelly. Rod. What are you wearing? I am very interested in the transaction that we almost had today. I want to see all of you very soon.

---

Tea: It's, um, it's my wedding dress.

Rod: I did not know you were having a wedding dress.

Tea: Well, I...I bought it after you, um, after Todd proposed to me, the second time. You know, things went bad after that. You know what happened but...

Rod: You could not return it?

Tea: I never...I never tried.

Rod: You were hoping things would get better, maybe?

Tea: Do you like it?

Rod: It is beautiful, like you. I hope I see you in it.

Tea: Well, maybe you will.

---

Rod (to Tea): Will you...will you run away with me?

---

Tea: Well, what about Starr?

Rod: Oh, Sta...the little one...she comes.

---

Rod: Tea, I can not imagine a life without you.

Tea: You don't have to. It won't come to that.

Rod: You are sure?

Tea: Yeah, I'm sure.

---

Rod (as Sam arrives): Ah, here is the man who's going to get me off.

---

Rod: Tell me again, why is this the party?

Tea: Remember, you told me that you've never had a birthday party before?

Rod: Are you sure that was me? That was not the boy?

Tea: No, it wasn't Tom, it was you, Rod.

---

Rod (as Tea starts cutting his un-birthday cake): No. No, I...I cut the cake. It's my party, I cut if I want to.

---

Viki: I truly believe that it is his hope for a future with you that has got Todd this far.

Tea: Viki, you should know that, uh, it's very hard for me to think about a future with Todd.

Viki: Yes, but I'm sure it's equally hard to think of a future without him.

---

Todd (at bus depot): Come on, Delgado, don't prove me wrong.

---

Rod: You found me. You are so smart.

Tea: Yeah, you're not so smart. (holding up his ankle monitor) Removing this monitor is a felony but then I assume you realize that.

---

Rod: You come with me.

Tea (looking at the tickets): San Diego?

Rod: ...it's in California.

---

Rod: It's a simple. We go to the San Diego. We take a boat to Mexico. They have the, uh, most beautiful beaches there with mountains and the rain forest. It's a paradise, no, for you and for me.

Tea: Yes, I'll go there with you. Wait, wait, sometime but not as a fugitive.

Rod: I no go back to the jail, not even for you Tea, no.

---

Tea: Anything's possible. You'll get well. You'll get into therapy. You'll integrate your alters.

Rod: No, you like the Rod, I stay the Rod.

Tea: It's not that simple, is it?

Rod: No. It's a simple. You no like the Todd, no? I hear you when you say. I want to be the kind of man that you can love, the kind of man that you want to be with for your life.

---

Rod: I feel like a new person.

---

Rod: Look at my face, huh. You see my face, with a scar, it's familiar, no? It's the face of the man who hurt you. You see? Could you trust my face?

Tea: I wanted to trust Todd but he never trusted me and trust is a two way street. I wanted to love Todd but he would never let me get close to him.

Rod:...And now?

Tea: Now, I'm standing here with a man who I could imagine having a life with. It's hard to believe after everything I've been through with, with, uh...

Rod: Todd.

Tea: But you're not Todd, you're not...you're not who I thought Todd was. You're beautiful. You're gentle, you teach me about the opera.

---

Rod (in Todd's voice): We could be free, Tea. Come with me.

---

Tea: I'm going to do the right thing. I'm going to Sam's to work on your defense because it's the only way you'll ever be free. It's the only way we'll ever have that future together that we both want.

---

Tea (at Sam's): He'll be here.

Sam: Excuse me.

Tea: He'll be here. I trust Todd to show up on his own. Don't you?

---

Tea: He will be here, Sam. I trust him, okay. I trust him, he will come through.

---

Rod (to officer Mulroney on the phone): No not Todd, it's Rod. How is that hairpiece you have?

---

Miss Perkins (while Todd is rehearsing his testimony): Yes, I do know Peter, he's a very troubled little boy. I do declare he was raised by wolves.

---

Tea (to Andrew): Todd needs me. I'm not gonna turn my back on him.

---

Blair: You manipulative bastard!

Todd (holding Starr's stuffed rabbit): Not in front of Mr. Hoppity.

---

Todd: I really wouldn't mind having a normal life.

---

Sam: I need you today to be my champion.

Tom: Champion? I'm not...look at me, I'm a basket case.

---

Tom: I did always try and stop Pete...but nobody's going to believe me. Look at me, they're...they're not gonna tell the difference. I look just like the guy.

---

Tom: Mr. Gannon, he's gonna yell at me, right? He's gonna try and mix me up.

---

Tea (to Tom who has covered his head with a blanket): You said that you loved me, was that all an act? (He shakes his head 'no') Then take the blanket off your head and look at me like a grown man.

Rod (lifting the blanket): You are so beautiful.

Tea: Rod, it's good to see you.

---

Rod (to Tea): You know I can not resist you.

---

Rod: It is not my trial. Is the trial of Todd and Pete.

Tea: But do you want Todd and Pete to win out because they will if you stay home and refuse to testify. Todd will go to jail and, unfortunately, you'll have to go with him.

Rod: I will die without you.

Tea: Well, then you have to help me, okay? And help Tom, he's young, he's not as brave as you are.

Rod: I don't know. I don't know if I can do that.

Tea: Oh, I bet you can do it because you'd be doing it for us, you'd be doing it for Starr, you'd be doing it for me, remember? Remember the future you promised us - second chance?

Rod: Second Chance? That's a stupid city in a stupid story. It's a fairy tale.

Tea: Todd made fun of fairy tales. I...I think you're braver then he is. I think that you can make them come true.

Rod: You'd be in my fairy tale?

Tea: If we win this case, and I believe we will, I'll be in your story forever.

---

Blair (to Max about Todd): How healthy is it for a child to be...to grow up with a manipulative person like that?

---

Sam: Miss Delgado, did you at sometime in the past love Todd Manning?

Tea: Uh, there were...there were times that I saw sides of him that were, uh, warm and sweet and loving and I guess at those times I loved him but then he would do things that were horrible, things that I couldn't understand.

Sam: Would you expand on this idea of sides for the court, please.

Tea: Well, when he did these things, these things I thought were so horrible he was...he was so different from the man I saw him be with his daughter, from the man he was so many times when we were alone.

---

Sam: Did it in this time ever occur to you that your husband might be mentally ill?

Tea: No. No, it never occurred to me. I mean, I thought he was troubled, I guess, but nothing like this.

Sam: And how did you feel when your husband was diagnosed as having DID?

Tea: I didn't believe it.

Sam: Do you believe it now?

Tea: Yes, completely. That's Todd's body sitting at the defense table but it's definitely not his soul.

---

Tea (referring to Tom): I divorced Todd Manning but I...I love that man.

---

Roseanne: I hope everything works out for you too.

Tom: Oh, golly, yeah, I hope so also.

---

Tom (after Max stated on the stand that Todd had confessed to him that he was faking): It's a stinky lie, okay, because that guy hates my guts, right? Why would he even be talking to me?

---

Bailiff: State your name.

Tom: Do I really have to do that part?

---

Miss Perkins (to Sam): I don't know who let you out of the house in that tie.

---

Miss Perkins (to Hank): Don't you raise your voice at me, young man.

---

Miss Perkins (to Judge Calloway): Oh, dear, blend, darling, blend.

---

Miss Perkins: Mr. Rappaport, are you wearing socks?

---

Rod (making an appearance on the witness stand; to Tea): You are so beautiful, always.

---

Rod: I no understand Pete. We are at the lodge, no? It's beautiful. There are beautiful woman everywhere. What does Pete do? He wraps the dynamite around his belly. (gesturing to Tea) And the most beautiful of all. The woman who makes my heart a song.

Hank: Objection, your honor, this witness' statement is so irrelevant.

Rod: Love is no irrelevant.

---

Rod: Tom is a moron.

---

Hank (while badgering poor sweet Tom): There is definitely no Pete.

Pete (jumping up and grabbing Hank): You wanna bet!

---

Pete: I'm the man and I'm in charge now.

---

Pete (to Sam): You talked to that idiot Tom, you talked to that nitwit Rod, you even talked to Miss Perkins. I've got news for you, you're gonna talk to me now.

---

Pete: Can't trust those pansies to follow up on anything. I'm the one who gets stuck doing all the dirty work...I've got to blow up half the town to make my point and what do they do -- they stick me with fake dynamite. Can't trust those bozos to do anything.

---

Pete (about Tea): Yeah, I kidnapped her, she's my wife, is there some kind of problem here?

Hank: Did you intend to kill Tea Delgado when she refused to flee with you?

Pete: All right, that's it, one more word out of you about Tea and I will strangle you with my bare hands.

---

Tom (to Tea and Viki after he testified about being raped by his father): He did do it, you know that?

---

Tea (after Blair asked if she believed Todd's story): How can you ask me that? Of course I do. Don't you think it explains a lot?

---

Tea: Think about what's on the other side of this, Tom, huh? The kingdom of Second Chance.

Tom: I didn't want a kingdom of Second Chance. I just wanted a second chance with you.

Tea: Hey, don't you know? You already have that.

---

Tea (in Todd's nightmare): Your daddy is the man of my dreams.

Todd: Well, I do my best.

Tea: Oh, you did for me. There's no man in Llanview that people respect more. You're successful. You're honest. You're handsome. You take my breath away.

---

Todd (in his nightmare): Hey, wait. Wait, Tea. Tea, don't leave. Don't you leave me.

---

Tea: Whatever happens I promise you I will not walk out on you, okay?

---

Rod: If the jury is a decision that sends me to jail. I will take you with me. Not really, in...in my heart and in my head.

---

Tea: I keep thinking about what happened in court with, uh, with Pete.

Rod: ...Pete is...not so nice.

Tea: No. No. He's not so nice. he terrifies me. But then I...I talk to you or sweet Tom and it gives me hope for us, you know? And considering what Todd or Pete put me through that's pretty amazing.

Rod: So who you scared of the Todd or the Pete?

Tea: They're both parts of you. I know that. I know you're not perfect. Nobody's perfect. It's just that in the past I've accepted things from you, or I should say from Todd, that I can't accept anymore. I...I won't...I won't accept anymore. Look, I trust you and I trust Tom and it seems like the sweet parts of you are starting to get the upper hand over the, uh, over the angry parts.

Rod: That's a good?

Tea: Yeah, it's...it's a good.

Rod: Why you look at me like that?

Tea: Well, the sweet parts keep getting stronger and the angry parts weaker until I'm not afraid anymore, until you're not afraid anymore and we can love each other the way Todd never could. Is that possible?

Rod: I don't know. Is it? You believe?

Tea: I want to believe.

Rod:Then believe. If only for tonight, then you believe.

---

Sykes: The safety of this community is my concern (leering at Tea) along with the safety of each and every citizen.

Rod (gesturing to Tea): No, this citizen is fine.

Sykes (still leering): Yeah, I can see that.

(Tea gets uncomfortable and crosses her arms in front of her.)

---

Todd (after seeing Tea and Sykes talking): Just lining up the replacements, eh, Delgado?

Tea: What did you say?

Todd: Never mind.

Tea: I put up with enough jealousy from Todd. A little while ago I showed you that I was willing to risk getting close to you. I put aside all my doubts, all my fears, for you. Doesn't that prove that I love you?

---

Rod (possessively): You belong to me.

---

Viki: I will always stand by you.

Rod: Why?

Viki: Why? Because you're my brother and I love you and nothing will ever change that.

---

Rod: Look at Hank. He looks like the cat that ate all the cat food.

---

Tom (about Starr): She's my best friend.

---

Tom (after losing custody of Starr): If this is freedom how come it feels so lousy?

---

Tom (about Starr): I don't know why I'm so upset. I mean, technically I'm not even her father, right? I'm just the guy who gets to play with her.

---

Todd: Starr, every time I see you I think the world's a little better.

---

Todd (to Starr): You're the best thing that ever happened to me. You are. You make me happy.

---

Tom (to Tea): Why don't you stay at Viki's, huh? With me? She's got a big house. (to Viki) You've got a big house, right?

Viki: Of course, Tea, if that's what you want.

Tea: I...I would love to but I have to stay with, uh, with Starr here. People have been trying to reach Blair and...and no one can reach her, so...

Tom: Well, Blair's off thinking about Blair somewhere.

---

Tom: I'm not gonna lose you too, am I?

Tea: No. No. Definitely not. I...I'll be with you every day for as much time as I can be, okay, Tom? It's not an ending, it's a beginning, okay?

Tom: You promise?

Tea: Yeah, I promise.

---

Viki: You will be back.

Todd (after Viki leaves): You're damn straight I'll be back!

---

Lindsay (as Viki and Todd arrive at the Banner): It must be 'take your kidnapper to work' day.

---

Tom (to Lindsay): I know why Coach left you too, 'cause you're a meany, you're nasty.

---

Lindsay: Nothing Todd Manning says to me could ever offend me, no matter who he's pretending to be.

Tom: Oh, see, nasty.

---

Tom (about merging the alters): There's just a lot less noise in your head.

---

Tom: The faster I get better the faster I can take Starr away from Blair.

---

Tom (smiling): Hi, Kev, great headline in The Banner today, 'Bo Recovers, Family Rejoices', that's gonna make the whole world forget that I got acquitted. I got AC-QUIT-TED.

---

Kelly: So we're Todd?

Tom: Yeah. It's a bummer cause I was really liking everybody calling me Tom.

---

Tom: The way you look right now, you used to look like that all the time, you know, like you were scared.

Tea: Well, I mean, so much is happening to you, you know, so fast.

Tom: Yeah, I've got all these people racing around my head. They all want to come out at the same time.

Tea: Well, that's a good thing they're trying to integrate.

Tom: It makes my head hurt. That's why I wanted to come here.

Tea: Oh, so Tom's a churchgoer, huh?

Tom: I don't know. Who am I now? (does an exaggerated Tom face)

Tea: Um, mostly Tom, uh, the goofy version.

Tom: Yeah, but you thought I was Pete back at the penthouse, right?

Tea: Well, you seemed pretty angry.

Tom: Well, I couldn't find Starr's tape.

Tea: Uh huh. You called it that damn tape, you had your head up the flue, you seemed pretty out of control.

Tom: Yeah, well, I got to let the others out to talk sometimes. I mean, that's what the therapist told me to do. I got to make sure that they all get a chance to talk.

Tea: Oh, then you're...you're making progress.

Tom: I don't know. I made you a lot of promises, I know that. And Todd wanted to keep the promises but Pete wouldn't let him.

Tea: I know.

Tom: So I thought, you now, if we came here, well, you know, a church promise, I mean, that's pretty serious.

---

Todd: So do you believe in divine retribution? 'Cause I figure God's pretty mad at me, that's why he took Starr away.

Andrew: Well, correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that once you reintegrate or integrate, or whatever it is you intend to do, that that will be reconsidered.

Tom: Wow! You really don't like me.

Andrew: I've tried to give you the benefit of the doubt but in your case it's tough to be objective.

Tom (gesturing to Tea): Well, 'cause of her? You know what? I forgive you. I mean Todd could never forgive you but I do. I forgive you. Will you be my spiritual counselor?

Andrew: Your spiritual...

Tom: Counselor. (to Tea) I mean, that's the right word, right?

Tea: Well, that depends. What exactly do you want?

Tom: Okay, 'cause nobody likes Todd 'cause of all the stuff he did but I figure that you can help.

Andrew: I don't know if this has much to do with your soul.

Tea: If he's asking for absolution...

Andrew: Well, I think what...he might be asking for is, uh, well, I think, maybe he wants me to be on his side and maybe he wants me to vouch for him when he tries to get Starr back. You know, I'm thinking maybe DID or no DID this is the same manipulative man he always was.

Tea: That is not very charitable, Reverend.

Andrew: Well, you may be impressed with his act of penitence but the operative word might be act.

Tea: This is...this is not an act.

Tom: No, it's okay. It's all an act. I mean, it is.

Tea: What?

Tom: It's all an act. I mean, I really don't care what anybody thinks. It's only Starr. I want to be a better person for Starr. She's very, very important to me and you, you know, if you tell everybody that I'm an okay person then they'll believe you because you're a priest, right?

Andrew (to Tea): Can I have a word with you, please?

Tom: Okay.

Andrew: No, not you Todd. Tea?

Tea (to Tom): Don't worry there are other priests if that's what you want, okay?

Tom: Okay.

(Tea joins Andrew in the back of the church)

Tea: Was that fair?

Andrew: Tea, you know, maybe you don't have a problem being used but I do. He's a wolf in sheep's clothing. He's the same old Todd.

Tea: You're wrong. He is working very hard to get well and I am committed to standing by him through all this.

Andrew: I think you ought to be committed for standing by him during all this. Where do you think it's leading?

Tea: I intend to marry the man. For real this time.

Andrew: Well, I do hope you'll find it in your heart to forgive me if I don't volunteer to officiate.

---

Todd (alone in the church): Not looking for peace. I'm looking for the damn tape. If I could find the damn tape I wouldn't need anymore peace.

---

Todd (after Blair said he scared her to death): Oh, like it was that easy.

---

Blair: Over my dead body.

Todd: You got a thing with dead bodies tonight, don't you?

---

Sam: For Pete's sake, just do what they said.

Tom: What does Pete have to do with any of this?

---

Tea (looking over the contract Blair forced Todd to sign): I'm gonna sue that...I'm gonna sue Blair to within an inch of her useless, ruthless, parasitic life.
