TIGGER & HONEY
These are my AmStaffs--Honey on the left and Tigger on the right. Tigger was my first rescue, and came to live with me over 14 years ago. She had been a guard dog in a cemetary in the Arlington Heights area of our city. She also had a sister and a brother that guarded the cemetary along with her. Her 2 litter mates were stolen one night by people who intended to fight them. The police got word of it and went to where the fight was going on. My husband used to work in another cemetary and knew the people that ran the cemetary where Tigger was kept. We also knew the cops involved in investigating the theft of the dogs. They found "Tigger" in the basement of the house where the dogs had lived. She was pregnant and very sick. The police called us and asked if we thought we could help her. We said we'd try. Well, that was 14 years ago and now she's 19 years old. She is very loving and great with kids. She never bit anyone. Her favorite thing to do is cuddle on your lap and just be held. She weighs 35 pounds and is a grey brindle. She's getting cataracts now and sometimes has trouble holding her bladder, but the vet says she's not in any pain. She has been a wonderful asset to my family. BTW...her littermates were shot by the people who stole them.
Our other rescue is Honey...sweet lovable Honey. My husband went to the store for me one day, and when he parked, he heard a puppy crying. He looked around but saw nothing, so went into the store. He was parked next to some dumpsters at the store. When he came back out, he heard crying again. There weren't any other cars around so he started looking and following the sounds. He found 2 pups in the garbage dumpster. He and his cousin climbed in and got the pups. We took them to the vet had they been left another 24 hours, they would have died. Well, we nursed them back to health and found a good home for the boy, but we kept honey. I fell in love with her gentleness. She was only 6 weeks old. She's 9 years old now and Tigger's best friend. As I'm writing this, they are lying at my feet, as they always do. These dogs have such a bad rep. But I have made some true believers of these dogs and their gentleness. At least those that weren't afraid to give them a chance. They are great family dogs and companions. If there are bad dogs, it's because of the owners...not the dogs. Thats my opinion and my experience.
(Editor's note: Bea has informed me that Honey has been euthanized due to a painful illness. PPB was very sorry to hear of Honey's passing.)
