Alicia Keys at PNC BANK ARTS CENTER on July 16, 2002

Hello! I know, I know, I am a month late in writing this. Forgive me, folks! Here it is, though, the review of my first Alicia Keys concert!

First off, for the record, the tickets were EXPENSIVE! $80.00 for a ticket? No way was I going to spend that much for a concert ticket (even though this was an early birthday present for me and my parents paid for the ticket). I wouldn't pay that much for a ticket, so I wasn't going to let them do it either. Besides, they wouldn't anyway....LMAO! So, I took the cheaper ones in the terrace section, and I still had a great view. What is up with these venues charging so much for tickets? Give me a break!

Okay, now that I've gotten that part out of the way, on with the review....LOL! What can I say? The show was awesome! Although, I forgot who the rap group was that opened (they were funny though)! She had two opening acts. The rappers (I am so sorry I forgot your names), and MUSIQ (Very cool!). Both were great, and at least I KNEW ONE OF THE OPENING ACTS! (Unlike some other groups).

I have to say, the rap group was a real trip. They had people from the audience coming up onstage dancing (kind of like SHOWTIME AT THE APPOLLO type of thing). The person who was the best got to dance with Alicia Keys. There was this one guy who really shook his ass, so he won....LOL! Funny. :)

Alicia Keys is a very good singer and a damn great piano player. I took piano lessons in my day, so this I can relate to. She played all of her songs from the new album "Songs in A Minor" and even did a cover song of THE DOOR'S "Light My Fire" and a little tribute to us New Jersians (as we're called. I hope I spelled that right!).

The highlight of the evening was when towards the middle of the show, the rap group came back out again, and there was this "rappers vs back-up vocalists" type of thing going on where the rappers would do their dancing/rapping thing, and then the back-up singers would sing their thing and strut their stuff. That was cool.

There were three back-up vocalists, and about six-piece band that took up two levels. I felt like I was at an MTV Music Video Award show, as there were a few special effects. (Like, for example, the disco ball that came down during one of the numbers and made the whole place sparkle).

Overall, as I mentioned, this was a very good show. Alicia Keys and her group really know how to entertain the fans. I would definitely go see her in concert again.
