*IN HONOR OF MY MOTHER*
It all started out with just two people,
then a third, then I came along.
From the time I was born you took care of
me and kept me close, but made me strong.
You made sure I only looked at events going
on around me with curious eyes.
That when I looked at life experiences,
never tried anything I saw, but instead asked why?
That even with the joy and happiness that
life and love gave.
That there was also pain and sorrow that
would make a bumpy road to pave.
When I had that time come along you gave
your love, guidance, support, and hand.
And taught me things cannot always work out
in life as I may have planned.
Many tears were shed but I was comforted by
your affection.
You assured me things would get better
that in life there's no perfection.
Sometimes you have to cry just to be happy once more.
I'm sure if you could you'd get back
at who hurt me just to even the score.
You taught me to be independent and sit on my throne.
Never let a man have me over thrown.
For I should decide how to live my life.
That a man should be lucky to have me as his wife.
That I will succeed in all tasks that come my way.
That I will have the strength and power to only do as I say.
To be an immortal creature on the inside.
But to show my mortal self and show my pride.
Walk with confidence and hold my head high.
To take all the questions I asked
and answer my own questions of why?
To explore all the options
and never settle for one reason.
Because life always changes just like the seasons.
You taught me to be a beautiful woman
that stands out in a crowd
To make sure when I spoke that I spoke out loud.
You also taught me to be emotional,
and soft to the touch
To be a woman that a man could love very much
To not be scared to show my fragile soft side
That to the right person it should not be something to hide.
And to take the universe and hold it in my hands.
Because on top of the universe is where I should stand.
You gave me the strength, courage, and dignity to
be the person I am today and will always be throughout my lifetime.
So Mom. I apologize for every bad time,
but thank you for all the best times
and being there through my worst times.
This is dedicated to you from me.
For bringing me into this world and
making someone I am so proud to be.
