The second New Jersey (BB-62) is one of the Battleships of the Iowa Class, the largest, fastest, most powerful, and the last Battleship the U.S. ever built, and among the biggest Battleship's ever.
Big "J" served us from the Marshall Islands, Marianas, Guam, Philippines, Manila, Okinawa, Formosa, to name a few of the places She helped our Troops do Battle in the Pacific. Her record was very impressive, She was in support of the assault on Iwo Jima and gave the same crucial service in the Raid on Tokyo. Big "J" has served and helped to maintain Freedom in WWII, in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. She also served supporting our Troops in Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf until She was Decommissioned. Her big guns restricted the movement by our Enemies during the Invasions by the U.S. Troops. Her big guns were know for their accuracy. Thank You Big "J", you did us Proud!
I have a Friend, recording Star, Jim Murphy who wrote a Song entitled, "Bring it Home, Big "J". Jim Murphy is a native New Jersey Gentlemen and a tremendous Country singer. Jim's Group is known as, "Jim Murphy and the Pine Barons." Jim has never forgot where He came from. The name "The Pine Barons," is in reference to an area in New Jersey, known as the Pine Lands. I hope you enjoy my part in Honoring, "The USS New Jersey".
