Me up at does

out of the floor
quietly Stare

a poisoned mouse

still who alive

is asking What
have i done that

You wouldn't have

I read this poem in freshman year of high school, in a poetry unit, and it struck me immediately. "Me up at does" is the only poem I remember reading out of the whole unit, since I happen to feel very close to animals, that they are one of us.

Sometimes that strikes me as funny because I live to eat meat, LOL. Yes, I'm a hypocrite sometimes. But really, if I had to look at an animal in the eye and be asked to kill and eat it, I wouldn't be able to do it. Reading about poachers killing endangered animals and animal cruelty brings tears to my eyes. I want to take those heartless people by the shoulders (or neck) and scream, "What have they ever done to you?!" Eating animals is one thing, since at least we put the meat to good use, but killing them for fur or for absolutely no reason at all enrages me like nothing else does. My family adopted a sweet golden retriever from an animal shelter. He had been found on the street by a police officer with no collar or tags. Yes, he has his problems, but he has never bitten anyone and even lets my sister pull his tail. (She's mean to him, I know...) Still, he's one big sweetie and it breaks my heart to think that someone just left him on the street. This story has a happy ending though - he has a stable home with lotsa love. LOL he knows I hug him way too much...
