REBEKAHMARY [Beco] HAIL JORDAN

Rebekahmary ("Beco") Hail Jordan passed on January 28, 2000 at Ft. Myers, Florida. Rebekahmary was born in Kuling, Kiangsi Province, China on July 3, 1917, the twin sister of Alicia Gordon Hail. Her parents resided in China where her father, Dr. William James Hail was Dean of Yale-in-China. Her mother, Alice Inghram Hail, returned to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania with the four children after the expulsion of foreigners by the Chinese War Lords. After Dr. Hail closed the school he returned to Wooster, Ohio where the family settled and he became head of the History Department of the College of Wooster. Beco completed work on her undergraduate degree at Wooster in three years and the fourth college year was spent at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in Massachusetts where she earned her Master of Arts degree in 1939. After returning to Wooster she taught at Wooster High School until her marriage in 1947. She returned to teaching at Merion Mercy Academy in Merion, Pennsylvania for 16 years until her retirement in 1983. In 1986 she and her husband removed to the Landings at Ft. Myers where she enjoyed boating, duplicate bridge, social bridge and golf. She was the reporter for the Ladies Nine Hole Golf group for ten years. Beco was a talented writer and furnished a monthly column to the Happy Landings newspaper. An infant son, William James Hail Jordan, her twin sister, Alicia Hail Fabens and an older sister, Elisabeth Hail Quinby predeceased her. She is survived by a brother, William James Hail, Jr., her husband, Richard Dudley Jordan, III, a son, Richard D. Jordan, IV of Albuquerque, N.M., a daughter Victoria Alicia Riegert and her husband, Paul of Cherry Hill, NJ, two granddaughters, Michelle Harris of Wichita, KS and Leigh Jordan of Lawrence, KS and two great granddaughters, Madelynne Nicole and Emily Jordan Harris. A memorial service was held in Ft. Myers at Covenant Presbyterian Church on Thursday, February 3rd at 11:00 a.m. There was a committal service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2000 at the Wooster Cemetery.
