Claire and Steve, alone in the room where Steve had turned into a monster just moments ago and tried to kill her. His love for Claire helped fight off the evil monster inside him but he would soon pay for his good deed. Steve took a critical hit from one of Alexia's monstrous tentacles. He whispered, " I love you Claire…", before slipping into an unconscious state. Luckily for him he was still alive but who knows for how long. "Claire, are you all right?", asked her brother Chris from behind the door. "I'm fine," she said, "but Steve isn't looking too good. You have to get us out of here." Chris tried to open the door but it wouldn't open. He tried to break the door down but it wasn't giving away. "I cant get in Claire, it's locked." She slid her security card under the door and said, "Go to the desk and punch in the code. It should set off the self destruct system and the door will unlock. " Chris took the card and did as his sister asked. He went down to the computer and punched in the code VERONICA. The self destruct system went off. As the doors unlocked Claire picked up Steve and put him on her back. She didn't care how heavy he was, she just knew that she had to get him out of here. "Don't die on me Steve," she said. He softly replied, "I promise you I wont." She ran down to meet Chris but their reunion was brief since Alexia made another appearance. "Claire! Take Steve and go to the jet. I will take care of this and meet you there!" Claire hesitated at first but then did as her brother asked.
Alexia turned into some sort of huge ant. Chris shot everything he had at her, taking a few critical hits himself. Soon she dropped her ant-like form to become an enormous dragon fly, flying around above Chris spitting fire at him. If you thought that was bad for him then listen to this… Chris was out of ammo… Just then Chris noticed a Linear Launcher laying up against the wall, "Oh yeah baby!" He picked it up and fired a single blast into Alexia's stomach. She exploded into a cloud of blood. Then he noticed that the base was going to self destruct in only 30 more seconds. He ran as fast as he could out of the base, jumping into the jet where Claire and Steve were waiting for him. He fired up the jet and took off into the air just as the base exploded.
"Chris, we have to get Steve to a hospital," pleased Claire with tears in her eyes. "I'm on it Claire," Chris replied confidently. He flew the jet at full speed back to London to admit Steve in to the best hospital he knew of.
University Hospital
Claire is sitting next to Steve's hospital bed holding his hand, "How are you feeling?", she said. Steve cracked a smile, "Much better now that you're here." She rubbed his hand against her cheek as he continued speaking, " I meant what I said back at the base. I love you Claire." Then he brought her hand to his lips and kissed it. She began to cry and whispered to him, "I care about you Steve. You are one of the sweetest guys I've ever met." Suddenly Steve started to sweat and shake, "Claire… It looks like I'm going to have to break my promise, " he said to her, struggling to speak. Crying, she said, "No, Steve. Don't talk like that." He looked at her one last time and said, "I'm sorry Claire." Then he closed his eyes. Claire began to cry harder, "Steve…? Steve…!" She shook him but there was no response. She slowly brought her lips down to gently kiss his and she said in a loud whisper, "I love you…" Then she wrapped her arms around him and silently cried into his chest. As the picture zooms out we notice Leon standing against the wall outside of Steve's room. He's holding a rose that he brought for Claire to cheer her up a bit. On Leon's face you see a single tear, half in sadness and half in anger. He throws the rose onto the floor and walks down the hallway toward the hospital exit.
