Pics of the lightened surfaces that (along with carbon wing tube and landing gear among other mods), helped get the beast down to a Nats weight of 10.65 lbs: I did the holes by drawing them w/ a paper template on the wing top anc bottom then used an X-Acto knife to cut / remove material from the holes.

As of December the plane has more than 150 flights on it and no sign that the airframe was weakened by all this. And btw, it hit the ground on June 8 '03 (Flight 5) and destroyed the nose, but the wings weren't hurt at all even though it hit a wingtip pretty hard.
