-With the closure
of Bevier Road on 12/17/2002, the GG was forced to change the way it entered
Busch. Also with the closure of the road, it resulted in the loss
of service to the Marvin/BAMM and ASB stops. Before the closure of
the road, the GG would sometimes skip these stops (and the road together)
and go straight to the Busch Campus Center. Not much a total loss.

-2
buses had been used on summer route starting 6/28/2004; due to the fact
that one bus wasn't going to cut it... factoring in traffic delays
-On
occasion, there was a driver that WENT in the OPPOSITE direction on Busch...
meaning after the Busch Campus Center, he'd serve the Davidson/Suites,
then Taylor Road, then Johnson Apts, etc. This resulted in the L
bus going past the BCC again (luckily not servicing twice in one trip).
This was just strange and SOMEONE messed up... |

-The
Taylor Road stop was removed as it was so close to two OTHER bus stops
in that area (Johnson Apts and Davidson/Suites).
-The
Werblin stop was removed due to its CLOSE location to the traffic circle,
and the traffic/safety concerns...
-The
slight adjustment made was when the semester weekday L bus used Johnson
Drive on the way to Livingston during the Fall of 2006 (October), the weekend
L started doing the same thing; although traffic isn't a (big) problem
on weekends. |

The
route changed twice during the Summer of 2006. The Train Station

to the fact that one hour wasn't enough time to do the entire route. |

Section 5-C: Rutgersfest
Routes>Spring 2000
Ah, Rutgersfest... the
yearly Spring event that takes places during the last Friday of the Spring
Semester. This is the chance for the students to relax before Finals...
a chance for students of all the New Brunswick campuses to come together
in one place (though the other colleges {Livingston, Douglass/Cook} have
their own festivals as well)... have fun... etc. The location of
this is on the Busch Campus... on the athletic fields by the Stadium/ Bubble/
Werblin Rec. Center. Of course since this is a big event, which not
only attracts students from all the campuses, but maybe some visitors from
outside of Rutgers, traffic around the area is going to be affected somehow.
Now here's a look into how the Busch buses were changed to accommodate
this yearly venue!
As you can see below
in this PICTURE, not too much was affected by the blocked off area.
The bad news was that in order to get to the stadium west lot, you needed
to take the C, and ONLY the C bus. The good news was that it was
the last Friday in the semester, with the majority of classes wrapping
up things. Not a whole lot of students were going to class/ or it
was that late in the afternoon where classes were OVER (there are NO classes
after 4:30 PM Fridays)/ and getting to certain areas on Busch wasn't overly
difficult.
Of course there were
only so many buses going around on the FRIDAY SCHEDULE. 4 A's, 3
B's, 1 C, 3 G's (later 2 G's after 5:30 PM), and 4 H's. And keep
in mind that these are ALL NORMAL BUSES. Buses TO and FROM were PACKED.
It got so bad that other buses (like the GG) were rerouted/detoured to
handle the loads. Getting from say College Ave to Livingston or College
Ave to Douglass was NOT a problem (yeah... riding an empty articulated
bus into Douglass was... nice... and... lonely?)
|
|
Section 5-D: Rutgersfest
Routes>Spring 2001
This year's Rutgersfest
was bigger than the last. More area was taken up by the events/ activities
planned. Plus you didn't want to hear buses drive by during the concerts,
and keeping traffic away from the area for safety reasons was key.
The dining hall BBQ also expanded their serving area onto Frelinghuysen
Road. Kinda hard to drive on the road now isn't it?
Let's just say that
it must have sucked if you parked at the Stadium West Lot. The C
bus again was the only bus running to that stop, and it took a slightly
LONGER route to get to/from there. Again... it was a Friday, so the
impact wasn't that great. At least you could take in the scenery
to/from the Stadium.
And as always, getting
to Rutgersfest was a pain in the butt. Traffic here felt like a normal
class day. Plus this was the time when the AX existed. Enough
said... but anyway the AX still remained 'academic building exclusive'
(for the most part) while the H remained 'residential building exclusive.'
There were only 4 AX's on the route at this point, 3 B's, 1 C, 3 G's (2
after 5:30 PM) and 4-5 H's. Getting to the Rutgersfest site QUICKLY
(from College Ave) meant taking an H... getting off at the Buell Apts.
stop, and then walking (the LONGER way meant taking the AX all the way
around, and getting off at the closest stop). Getting FROM the Rutgersfest
site was also in a challenge (especially after 9PM when most of the buses
are out of service/ are in the NIGHT schedule).
|
|
Section 5-E: Rutgersfest
Routes>Spring 2002 (5/3/2002)
Some might say that
Rutgersfest 2002 wasn't as good as it was in previous years. (I was
slightly disappointed myself). In any case, the same roads were closed
down for the most part... even though the only thing that spilled over
onto the road was the Dining Hall's food serving area.
And of course travel's
not very pretty...
Ah... the C bus...
again... the only option for those getting to and from the Stadium West
Lot. The only time of year that it 'doesn't run every 10 minutes,'
due to the length of the ride and amount of traffic that is awaiting it...
The H bus is almost
in the same boat. They did have four buses running (#1047,1030,1028,
and 2000), but the insane length of travel plus the traffic (on River Road)
made them a less desirable option in getting TO and FROM Busch.
The B and G buses
repeat the 'loop' they had in the previous 'fest in 2002. At least
the # of B buses on Friday had been bumped up to 4 (for the school year
in general), while unfortunately the G count on Fridays didn't change (3,
2 after 5:30 PM).
Getting back to College
Ave from Busch? You could have risked the H bus... or the A bus...
which had to do its long ride as well. Here they had 4 articulated
buses (#2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009) to help... slightly.
Did I mention it
was ugly getting to Rutgersfest? If the H's are delayed enough as
it was... and there was only so much room on the A (or B or G) buses...
If one was tired of waiting for a G bus on Douglass... connecting to a
EE/F, then hoping for a connection to a(n) A/H is slightly pushing it.
Though you are moving in the 'correct direction-North,' your chances were
only slightly better (or worse) depending on how you see it. The
chances were about the same using the 'multiple connections' going from
Busch to Douglass. A 'GG/B' connection (Douglass/Cook to Livingston
to Busch) or vice-versa was feasibly possible-messy but still a better
option for some.
|
|
Section 5-F: Rutgersfest
Routes>Spring 2003 (5/2/2003)
This year, Rutgersfest
2003 was held indoors... the carnival event inside the Busch Campus Center,
and the Concert inside the RAC on Livingston. The decision was made
to do this because the weather was forecasted to be bad-rain and thunder.
The rains and thunder didn't start until after 4:30 PM, long after the
carnival event was done, but during the concert. Lucky for the person/s
involved that IT DID RAIN... because if it didn't... In any case,
FINALIZED bus changes had to go into effect... the decision I'm sure had
to be done quickly and be implemented smoothly...
The
following was done as it relates to bus service:
-L and LX bus
service had been extended (most importantly # of buses) to accommodate
flow between College Ave and Livingston. Some of the Rutgers drivers
were rerouted to either the L or the LX lines after their normal afternoon
shifts ended (and yet bizarre when some of them WERE on the LX route
then moved to the L and vice-versa). It was strange seeing LX buses
going as late as 10:30 PM on a Friday night at College Ave... as the only
other buses normally scheduled to go were the A, B, EE, and the L.
-No extra service
on the GG (and the G) line. Gee... what a surprise!
-There were special
chartered buses (actually MCI Cruisers and the <extra> normal Rutgers
NOVA buses) that ran between College Ave. and the RAC [the exact path they
traveled on changed due to normal Friday traffic on Albany Street and a
decision made by the Assistant Director of Campus Bus Services], and between
the Busch Campus Center and the RAC, to accommodate flows between the three
campuses. Dispatchers on Livingston, Busch, and on College Ave. helped
to keep the buses flowing as smoothly as possible. In fact, I just
happened to be one of them... yes the site owner-Steve... was a(n impromptu)
dispatcher on the night of Rutgersfest on College Ave. Seriously...
no joke...
**There were extra
NOVA buses because there were only 3 G's and 3 GG's in service (until 5
PM) on Fridays. This freed up 2 extra buses.
-The weather and
the supposedly bad accoustics in the athletic center may have had a factor
in how many people went to and from...
If the event had
been outdoors, make no mistake that things would have been different...
and more chaotic... something very similiar to Rutgersfest 2002.
**No map will be
made for this section. None of the bus routes were rerouted. |
|
Section 5-G: Rutgersfest
Routes>Spring 2004 (4/30/2004)
The site owner's First
Rutgersfest since Graduation back in May 2003...
Ah another Rutgersfest
has gone by... and boy was it something. Getting to and from the
event was really something... and it was and can be quite an ordeal.
Problems arose early on... such as a good-intentional but bad-timing executed
seatbelt check on Metlars Lane (to Busch) reducing traffic to a single
lane northbound, people getting drunk BEFORE boarding the buses, people
throwing up on buses (especially in the center, swirl-portion of one poor
unfortunate articulated H bus), and drivers not exactly knowing where they
were going. It was interesting... as traffic was horrendous.
I was personally at the Busch Campus Center for most of the afternoon and
night watching most of the bus action take place. While I was not
working for Parking that night, I was an observer, hanging out with some
of the Academy and RU dispatchers/officials whilest observing. I
couldn't even begin to guess the HUGE number of people who arrived (and
left) via the campus or shuttle buses. The officials did their best
to try to keep all the Busch/Festival buses moving given the circumstances
(even when faced with traffic, or too many buses waiting to go through
the student center stop).
The Avenue E road
changes were suppose to have taken place in April, but have been pushed
back to mid-May/graduation due to weather related construction delays.
Had the changes gone into affect, this would have been another interesting
little factor to come into play.
I expected/guessed
that certain routes would run the way they would. I guessed wrong
about the A route for Rutgersfest. I thought it would have taken
different approach... meaning after coming from Route 18, it takes a left
onto River Road, then a right onto Hoes Lane, then a right onto Frelinghuysen
Road which theorically would have put it back on its normal route in a
way once it reaches Allison Road... meaning that it would enter Busch the
same way the H left. Instead the A bus this year takes a similar
approach to the AX bus during Rutgersfest 2001 (the only difference is
the AX bus NEVER stopped at the student center immediately before heading
back to CAC). The H bus left Busch taking such a long way was because
they tried to get people in the ARC area back to College Ave as quickly
as possible without having to deal with traffic on Metlars Lane (though
traffic on River Road dampened that wish slightly). By the time Rutgersfest
started (3PM), the last class period (5) of Friday had already started
(back at 2:50 PM), so getting to "class" wasn't really a priority.
It was just a matter of getting around...
RUTGERSFEST
2004 BUS SERVICE:
-WHAT HAS BEEN ADVERTISED
(first ad in the Daily Targum, 4/21/2004):
1) Rutgersfest
Shuttle: There will be continuous shuttle bus service between the
RSC [Rutgers Student Center] and BCC [Busch Campus Center] between 4:00
pm and 11:00 pm.
2) The following
bus stops will not be serviced: Lot 48, 48A, Werblin Rec Center,
Hill Center, and Buell Apts. The Stadium West Lot will be serviced
after 3 pm by the C bus only, which will allow you to transfer at the A.R.C.
onto the "A," "B," "G," or the "H."
3) EE, A,
and H extended service until 10:30 pm.
Ok, so it was the
same set-up/scenario adverstised from last year. Remember that it
never got executed due to bad weather. It was the same scenario,
just slightly adjusted due to the road changes that have taken place since
then.
The "Rutgersfest
Shuttle" was charted Academy buses (non Rutgers Nova and New Flyer
buses) to shuttle people back and forth between the two locations.
Normal Rutgers NOVA buses (especially due to the fewer G and GG buses in
service on Fridays) did pop up to serve in this capacity.
Portions of Bartholomew,
Frelinghuysen and Sutphen Roads was be closed off to traffic... and the
buses did not service those stops from 3 PM until the end of the concert...
at around 9:00 PM. The buses had traveled similar to the arrangement
used during Rutgersfest 2002. This means that getting to/from Busch
will be unique. This means that to get to certain places, you must
get off at the closest bus stop (the Busch Campus Center or Davidson Hall
depending on the bus taken), and then walk the remainder of the way.
(or alternativelty/subsequently walk to the closest bus stop still being
serviced to get around/back) You have the choice of the Rutgersfest Shuttle,
4 A buses, 4 B buses, 3 G buses (2 after 5:30 PM), and 4 H buses.
Ok so those at Douglass/Cook will have it the worse... having to wait for
the too few (and later two-few) G buses or having to connect to a EE/F
to CAC, then connect to the A, H, or special Rutgersfest Shuttle.
Add to this, the usual rush hour traffic, the normal concert-generated
traffic, and Route 18 expansion construction and you have a really INTERESTING
situation.
>>Did I mention that
the traffic is bad, and it will be tough/UGLY to get around on a G bus
after 3 PM...
Subsequently, commuters
will have an interesting time. There will be the single C bus, and
it MUST travel a long distance (using River Road) to get back and forth
between the ARC and the West Lot. Refer to the 2004 Rutgerfest
map below for specifics.
After 8:30 PM, the
EE's will be mixed (because this is when the F stop running for the night).
2 of them (normal buses) will be running on its nighttime version (Corwin
and Somerset Street serviced, to/from using George Street and will be running
on the RSC side of College Ave), while the approximate 4 remaining (articulated
buses) or so will still be on its daytime version (to using Route 18 and
running on the Brower Commons side of College Ave). As for the A
buses, two of them will assume its nighttime version at around 8:30 PM
(having to work with and deal with the detours still in place), and the
remaining A buses and 4 H buses will serve as extra shuttles to help supplement
the 'express' service between RSC and BCC (if they weren't still actually
on their normal runs). This is especially crucial for those especially
going to/from Rutgersfest and Cook/Douglass, especially since there will
too few G buses in service.

Section 5-H: Rutgersfest
Routes>Spring 2005 (4/29/2005)
The first Rutgersfest
after all the road work in and around Busch left its mark...
The site owner's
Second Rutgersfest since Graduation back in May 2003. This would
be more special... since the bus terminal owner/creator/updator started
employment again with Rutgers Parking and Transportation again since January
2005. I was there on College Avenue, doing my thing...
-WHAT HAS BEEN ADVERTISED
(first ad in the Daily Targum, 4/21/2005):
BASED ON GOOD WEATHER:
1) Rutgersfest
Shuttle: There will be continuous shuttle bus service between the
RSC [Rutgers Student Center] and BCC [Busch Campus Center] between 4:00
pm and 11:00 pm.
2) The following
bus stops will not be serviced: Lot 48, 48A, Werblin Rec Center,
Hill Center, and Buell Apts. The Stadium West Lot will be serviced
after 3 pm by the C bus only, which will allow you to transfer at the A.R.C.
onto the "A," "B," "G," or the "H."
3) EE, A,
and H extended service until 9:30 pm.
Ok, so it was the
same set-up/scenario adverstised from LAST YEAR, pretty much.
The crowds for the
festival was IMMENSE. The special Rutgersfest Shuttles had to start
before 4 PM because there were A LOT of people, and the rerouted A and
H buses were packed and not running on time (gee I wonder why). At
some point, 4 of the 6 EE buses were taken OFF the EE route to temporarily
act as additional Festival Shuttles (the buses were needed, and we just
had the buses there at the right time). It should be noted that these
4 EE buses just happened to be articulated. Some overzealous and
drunk students smashed a window on the middle set of exit doors on bus
# 2023 while it acted as an impromptu Festival Shuttle. It wasn't
so bad as there were still 4 F buses and the 2 remaining EE buses (both
normal) carrying the slack for a while during this temporary change.
Yeah, the L and the
LX buses were lucky... the buses were practically empty and they remained
untouched for the entire Festival. Someone could have made the decision
to pull the LX buses off the route, but the EEs were already there...
Portions of Bartholomew,
Frelinghuysen and Sutphen Roads was, as usual, closed off to traffic...
and the buses did not service those stops from 3 PM until the end of the
concert... at around 9:00 PM.
The A and H routes
wound up running the same EXACT route going to Busch. From Route
18 North, the A and H buses would get off at the River Road Exit.
They made a right onto Hoes Lane, then a right onto Frelinghuysen Road,
then a left onto Allison Road. The first stop they serviced on Busch
was at the Science Buildings. The A and the H serviced more as the
alternate for the special Festival Shuttles (the Festival Shuttles ran
a different route). Did I mention that they ran the same EXACT path?
It didn't matter WHAT LETTER the bus displayed in this case, just as long
as it got to Busch...
The G route pretty
much ran like it had in previous Rutgersfests. It was fortunate enough
that the road work at the Metlars Lane/Route 18/Avenue E intersection/area
was finished, or the G bus would REALLY have suffered as a result of the
detours. The G bus remained on 18 until the exit for Metlars Lane.
It made a left turn at the light to take the road/bridge over to Davidson
Road to enter Busch. Of course, there were only 2 G buses by 5:30
PM, so if you thought you were waiting a long time for a G bus before...
It much have really
not have been pleasant if you parked at the Stadium West Lot. The
C bus had to take the LONG detoured way as expected. It should be
interesting to note that this was the FIRST AND ONLY DAY that the C bus
was EVER articulated (#2020) in the attempt to help the commuters out for
the festival, although from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM only. The C bus was
normal sized for the rest of the night... Making the C bus articulated
didn't accomplish much, since it got changed back BEFORE the road changes
took effect. Why did the C bus go from articulated to normal sized?
Not every single Academy Bus Driver can drive the articulated buses, and
the afternoon C driver at the time was one those people...
Except for some obvious
road differences, the B bus ran like it did during past Rutgersfests as
well.

Section 5-I: Rutgersfest
Routes>Spring 2006 (4/28/2006)
The first Rutgersfest
without the "G" and the "GG" routes, but the first with the "REXB" and
the "REXL"...
-WHAT HAS BEEN ADVERTISED:
BASED ON GOOD WEATHER:
1) Rutgersfest
Shuttle: There will be continuous shuttle bus service between the
RSC [Rutgers Student Center] and BCC [Busch Campus Center] between 2:00
pm and 11:00 pm.
2) The following
bus stops will not be serviced: Lot 48, 48A, Werblin Rec Center,
Hill Center, and Buell Apts. The Stadium West Lot will be serviced
after 2 pm by the C bus only, which will allow you to transfer at the A.R.C.
onto the "A," "B," "REXB," or the "H."
3) EE, A,
and H extended service until 10:30 pm.
-THIS YEAR'S BUS
ROUTE REROUTES INCLUDE:
>>The A: Normally,
the A bus goes in a "clockwise direction" around the Busch Campus (goes
to the academic buildings/areas first, then the residential areas).
This year, the FIVE A buses will be going in a "counter-clockwise direction"
around the campus. In other words, the "A" will be doing (in part)
the "H" route. This is done, in part, to increase the # of buses
heading DIRECTLY to CAC from the area near the Rutgersfest site (closest
stop is the ARC). If the A and H routes were not 'reversed' directionwise
for the fest, then the # of buses would be less-3 Hs compared to 5 As.
>>The B: The
B is rerouted the same as in previous years. Good news: All
4 "B" buses are ARTICULATED.
>>The C: The
C is rerouted the same as in previous years. Again, the only bus
to serve the Stadium West Lot is the SINGLE C bus.
>>The H: Normally,
the H bus goes in a "counter-clockwise direction" around the Busch Campus
(goes to the residential buildings/areas first, then the academic areas).
This year, the THREE H buses will be going in a "counter-clockwise direction"
around the campus. In other words, the "H" will be doing (in part)
the "A" route.
Note on Fridays:
that there are FOUR "H" buses in service from 7 AM until 3:30 PM, then
only THREE afterwards.
>>The REXB:
This is the ONLY time of the year (other then when the "REXB" ran during
a Thursday/Friday night Football game in later years) that the "REXB" bus
will service the Busch Campus Center, Davidson, Johnson Apts, Library of
Science/Medicine bus stops. In other words, the "REXB" bus is servicing
bus stops it NEVER goes near during the normal academic school year.
The "REXB" bus was partially rerouted similarly to the "G" bus back in
Spring of 2005, and this reroute gives more travel options from Busch to
Cook/Douglass (and vice-versa) on the day of Rutgersfest (especially from
NEAR the fest site). This would hopefully cut back on the bus to
bus transfers slightly (the A, H, or the special Festival Shuttle to CAC,
then a EE or F to Cook/Douglass and vice-versa).
Note that there were
3 "REXB" buses in service on Fridays at this point in 2006 (something it
would not do on Fridays by Fall 2007). Note that with traffic
and the rerouting, the REXB will not quite run "every 14 minutes" as it
normally does.
OTHER INFO:
>>The H buses normally
end at 9 PM Monday-Fridays. They've been extended to remain on service
for an extra hour and a half.
>>Traffic (rush-hour,
Route 18 construction related, AND the Rutgersfest event itself) will play
in a role in delaying the A, B, C, EE, F, and REXB buses. Note that
the outdoor events attracts people OUTSIDE of the University.
>>The special Rutgersfest
shuttle between the Rutgers Student Center and the Busch Campus Center
starts 2 hours earlier than it was previously advertised last year (4 PM).
This is done to anticipate early demand for the carnival and concert events.

Section 5-J: Rutgersfest
Routes>Spring 2007 (4/27/2007)
This year's Rutgersfest
takes place during what is/was a great school year (2006-2007). So
much had indeed happened on campus.
This year, Rutgersfest
2007 was held indoors... the carnival event inside the Busch Campus Center,
and the Concert inside the RAC on Livingston. The decision was made
to do this because the weather was forecasted to be bad-rain and thunder
(like it was in 2003).
The
following was done as it relates to bus service:
-Unlike in 2003,
NONE of the L/LX buses' schedules were changed.
-No extra service
on the A, EE, H routes as it HAD BEEN advertised.
-There were special
chartered buses (actually MCI Cruisers and the <extra> normal Rutgers
NOVA buses) that ran between College Ave. and the RAC, and between the
Busch Campus Center and the RAC, to accommodate flows between the three
campuses.
**No map will be
made for this section. None of the bus routes were rerouted.
WHAT
COULD HAVE HAPPENED IN 2007:
Expected the same
from 2006-assuming good weather.
During the hours
of reroute/alternate route:
Again, the A buses
would have run the H route on Busch.
The H buses would
have run the A route on Busch. Yeah, that would have made sense really.
This would have thrown the predicted arrival/departures times in Nextbus
greatly.
The REXB buses would
have done their 'customary Rutgersfest reroute' that includes stops like
the Busch Campus Center that it does only once a year (for the second year
a in row). Again the buses might not be running every "14 minutes"
due to rerouting and/or traffic.
The B bus would have
hit the Busch Campus Center FIRST upon arriving to the campus during this
special occasion, not LAST as it normally does as route had changed in
January 2007. As always, all B buses will be articulated.
The C bus would have
been on its long alternate route. This would also have been the last
time the Rutgersfest C bus would not have run every 10 minutes due to the
length of the alternate route. Little doid we know back then/at the
time of Rutgersfest 2007, but when the Fall 2007 Semester would later come,
it'd bring a C bus would be running every FIFTEEN minutes instead of 10.
Extra EE service
from 7-10:30 PM (There's only 3 EEs past 7/7:30 PM normally). Extended
H service from 9-10:30 PM (They normally stop past 9 PM). Extended
A service from 9-10:30 PM (There's only 3 As past 9/9:30 PM normally).

Section 5-K: Rutgersfest
Routes>Spring 2008 (5/1/2008)
Interesting things
had been happening at around since 2005, 2006, and 2007. For those
that don't know, Rutgersfest used to take place on the College Avenue Campus
(under a different name) at Denier Park (behind the River Dorms/SAC) until
it was changed location and namewise to the Busch Campus for several years.
But now with the reorganization of the colleges and all..
Now this year's event
is taking place on the Livingston Campus. Yes on Livingston.
GONE is the road
closures due to the Rutgersfest venue site on Busch.
GONE is the massive
alternate Busch bus rerouting in general due to Rutgersfest road closures.
GONE are the massive
bus delays (at times) due to everyone coming/going from the Busch Campus.
GONE are the bizarre/unusual
A/H bus rerouting due to Rutgersfest (where they'd in run the OPPOSITE
direction for a few hours different then what they normally did during
the other 99% of Fall/Spring semester weekdays that had already come).
GONE is the C bus
will be on its own LONG alternate path.
BE SOME THINGS WILL
NEVER CHANGE!
NEVER GONE is the
fact that the buses heading to said Rutgersfest event will be full.
Instead of the A/H/REXB buses being jammed, it'll be the L/LX/REXL buses.
NEVER GONE:
The B bus will still see some high amount of traffic to/from Livingston.
NEVER GONE:
The C being rather empty on a Friday early evening-like around 6 PM (Rutgersfest
or not).
NEVER GONE:
Getting to Rutgersfest from Cook/Douglass is NEVER an easy task.
There are only TWO REXL buses in service past 3 PM on Fridays, like it
was when the "GG" route existed before that route got canceled at the end
of Spring 2005. The buses can and probably get full really fast,
and the wait for the buses is not short (normally 22-23 minutes between
3 PM until 8 PM; not counting ANY heavy traffic).
NEVER GONE:
Special shuttles buses to/from Rutgersfest from College Ave, for example.
AND OF COURSE EXPECT
THE NEW!
NEW are the massive
bus delays (at times) due to everyone coming/gong from the Livingston Campus.
>> |
Section 5-L: Rutgersfest
Routes>Spring 2009 & 2010
Rutgersfest is still
on Livingston, still causing problems for only the B, L, LX, and REXL buses.
As usual, heavy demand for the Livingston buses is high. Extra buses
between Busch and Livingston and College Avenue and Livingston were ordered.
Normal routes, like the EE, had some of their buses extended by a few extra
hours to help. |
Section 5-M: Rutgersfest
Routes>Spring 2011 (4/14/2011)
Due to the construction
over on Livingston, Rutgersfest returns to the Busch Campus. You
know what that means: Massive road closures and even more massive
bus reroutes. Note that Rutgersfest happens much earlier in 2011
(Rutgersfest tradtionally took place during the last Friday of the Spring
Semesters) than other years (perhaps due to other events scheduled later
in the month, like Rutgers Day the last Saturday of April 2011).
Starting at approximately
12 PM; Frelinghuysen Road will be closed between the Traffic Circle and
Allison Road due to the event. Then later, Bartholomew Road
will be closed between the circle to the Campus Center for pedestrian traffic.
A, B, & H buses:
From 12 PM to about 6:45 PM: The only stops on the Busch Campus they'll
service on Busch are Werblin Front Entrance, Buell Apartments, and the
Busch Campus Center. From 6:45 PM to the end of the concert; the
A, B & H buses will ONLY service the Busch Campus Center.
C bus: From
12 PM to 7:30 PM (its normal end time): The C bus will service only
the Stadium West Lot and the ARC. It will essentially do what it
did back during Rutgersfest 2006 (see 2006) five years ago. Ah the
memories. This is also the only time of the year the C bus will run
late (beyond it's every 15 minute range).
REXB bus: From
12 PM to the end of the concert: The only bus stop on the Busch Campus
it will service is the ARC (it will not go to the Busch Campus Center like
it did in 2006). The REXB will enter and exit Busch like the Rutgersfest
detoured C bus. LIke the REXL the past 2 years, the 2 REXB buses
(down from 4 to 2 by 3:30 PM) was jammed at times.
As usual, there will
be extra charter buses to help with the loads.
Despite all of the
planning, few people would imagine what would happen, right before the
event, during, and after. The buses and traffic was jammed getting
to Busch... sometimes leaving, and when the action/activity shifted to
College Avenue in the evening, getting into/out of College Ave got as ugly...
especially as the evening progressed and the # of buses dropped.
And given what happened
by the end of the night, Rutgersfest as it had become was canceled permanently.
