GATE FOUR A

NOTE... THE PAGE IS LONG... MANY PICTURES... PLEASE LET THEM LOAD FIRST!!!

This portion of the bus terminal contains some other historical/relevant information about the Rutgers Campus Bus System, nearly 20, yes TWENTY years worth of data and information.  Wow. You won't find CURRENT CAMPUS BUS route information here, so please go to the appropriate page for that information.

What you'll find on this page specifically is the HISTORY of THE CURRENT of the Rutgers Bus Routes.  The routes I'm referring to are the A, B, C, EE, F, H, L, LX, REXB, and REXL.  All the other routes are over at Gate 4B.  It's a REALLY LONG PAGE, so please allow for the pictures to load first.

>>Pictures of the routes were previously taken from the Rutgers Parking and Transportation Services website, now Rutgers Department of Transportation Services.  They in turn had gotten them from the now defunct whereismybus.com site.  I did heavy photo editing to depict the routes as they were in the past...  Note that SOME of the pictures are NOT 100% accurate due to the accident omission of a few details (like a bus stop or 'local roads' for example) that I might fix in the future.
>>Information listed below is derived either from personal observation/analysis, from actual printed sources (such as Campus Maps), or from actual people.

NOTE:  This gate (page) is still/always being worked on!  The info is up, but there is still information that needs to be added/updated!  This means that the stuff below is about 85-99% accurate.

Reminder About 'Rule' 1:  Most of the information was gathered by the terminal (site) owner-Steve (the self-proclaimed, Unofficial ,FORMER STUDENT NOW RU EMPLOYEE, Rutgers Bus Expert), by maps and handouts from Rutgers Department of Transportation Services, or by information from credible sources.  If you doubt the material on these pages, then you can always go to the official source-though they will say the same things for the most part...  There may be some information here that was calculated/ deduced personally (and information obtained from credible sources WITHIN Rutgers DOTS).  Credit is given to outside, unafflilated sources to where it's due, after all no one is perfect and there are things that some of us will never know, but others may!   Also, the information found on this page/site is as accurate and up to date as possible.  Steve is not responsible for sudden/ abrupt last minute changes that the system implements.  Remember, this information is just suggestions, listings, etc.  What you do with the information is all up to you.  All times are approximated (by Rutgers DOTS), as traffic, weather, or mechnical problems may occur [times derived from posted schedules at bus stops, RU DOT site, handouts, etc.].  Again, all information is assumed to be update to date-unless noted that the information needs to be updated; the information needs to come in, but said material is reserved to be updated at the/any appopriate time!!!

A ROUTE HISTORY:
September 1987-May 1990

Stop Order:  Rutgers Student Center, Ledge, Stadium, Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library of Science & Medicine, Taylor Road, Davidson Dining Hall, Busch Campus Center, ASB, BAMM, Silvers Apts, Silvers, Rutgers Student Center

September 1990-May 1995

Stop Order:  Rutgers Student Center, Scott Hall, Ledge (later known as the Student Activities Center), Stadium, Werblin Back(added to the route in 1992 or 1993 when the facility opened), Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library of Science & Medicine, Taylor Road, Busch Campus Center, ASB (before 3:30 PM and after 6:30 PM), BAMM (before 3:30 PM and after 6:30 PM), Silver Apts/Brett Rd (before 3:30 PM and after 6:30 PM), Buell Apts (3:30 PM to 6:30 PM only), Werblin Front(added to the route in 1992 or 1993 when the facility opened), Stadium. Rutgers Student Center

-Rush hour traffic prompted the A bus to drop 3 normal stops for a substitute stop at the Buell Apts so the buses could get around quicker/save time.

September 1995-May 2000

Stop Order:  Rutgers Student Center, Scott Hall, Student Activities Center, Stadium, Werblin Back, Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library of Science & Medicine, Johnson Apts, Taylor Road, Busch Campus Center, Buell Apts (made an official stop in '97 or '98), Werblin Front, Stadium, Rutgers Student Center

-The A Route would disappear (from the semester weekday schedule) for the 2000-2001 school year due to the experimental AX Route.

September 2001-May 2004

Stop Order (September 2001-December 2002):  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Lot 48A, Stadium, Stadium West Lot, Werblin Back, Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library of Science and Medicine, Johnson Apts, Taylor Rd, Busch Suites, BCC, ASB, Marvin Apts

Stop Order (December 2002-Present): RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Stadium, Lot 48A, Stadium West Lot, Werblin Back, Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library of Science and Medicine, Johnson Apts, Taylor Rd, Busch Suites, BCC, Buell Apts., Werblin Front, Lot 48

-The A route was reinstated in 9/2001 after the AX route really didn't solve any problems.

-Articulated buses started appearing on the A line in the Fall of 2001.

-With the closures of Brett and Bevier Roads in December 2002 due to Route 18 Construction/Expansion, the A route was forced to leave Busch in a different manner.

-WIth the new entrance to Busch opens sometime after August 16, 2004, the A route will be altered to reflect the changes.

My comments on the A bus accident that occured during the week of 4/9/2002:
** The Daily Targum website probably has an copy of the article in its archives, but you need to be register in order to gain access to that, or any other articles... features, etc.
-Personally, I thought that the incident could have been avoided.  Now granted, I wasn't there (I was at class on Livingston for 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th periods on that Tuesday), so anything in this paragraph is only speculation.  The H bus could have waited a few more seconds before merging... so that it didn't have to crash into the A bus.

++++++ Note that the facts listed, as of 4/14/2002, have not been mentioned in any official source.  This is stuff that I researched/came up with myself.  Whether you choose to believe me is up to you. ++++++

-Fact:  It was the 2001 bus whose window was smashed.  Indeed it was out for a few days so the window could be repaired.  It reappeared on for normal service before the week was over.
-Fact:  Yes, it was the same driver who drove that A articulated bus that indeed drove the A bus (#1051) later that day.  I saw the guy at around 6 PM on Busch.  Not many people would know this, but this particular driver (by the way, the picture of the accident in the 4/10 edition of the Daily Targum has a picture of the driver.  He's the person at the right side of the picture, which looks like he's walking away from the bus.) was one of several bus drivers who made the switch from Suburban to Academy.  So this driver involved wasn't a stranger/newbie to the RU bus routes... for it is assumed that he has been doing this for quite some time.  I'll see if I can scan the picture sometime.

September or October 2004 (exact date unknown) - May 2005

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Stadium (left off the route for some of September 2004), Lot 48A, Werblin Back, Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library of Science and Medicine, Johnson Apts, Taylor Rd, Busch Suites, BCC, Buell Apts., Werblin Front

-Dropping the Stadium West Lot stop was supposed to let the A bus get around a little faster, as not a whole lot of people were getting off at the stop coming from College Avenue.  Due to this, connecting to the C bus would be more important... had this actually worked.  The stop got reenstated later on.

September 2005-May 2008t

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Lot 48A, Stadium, Werblin Center, Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library of Science and Medicine, Johnson Apts, Busch Suites, BCC, Buell Apts., Werblin Center

>>The bus stop on Taylor Road and Davidson Road got removed.

September 2008-December 2008

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Lot 48A, Stadium, Werblin Center, Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library of Science and Medicine, Busch Suites, BCC, Buell Apts., Werblin Center

>>The Johnson Apartments bus stop on  Davidson Road got removed.

January 2009-May 2009

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Stadium, Werblin Center, Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library of Science and Medicine, Busch Suites, BCC, Buell Apts., Werblin Center

>>The Lot 48A stop got removed (while the new Visitor's Center was being built)..

September 2009-????

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Visitor's Center (formerly Lot 48A)Stadium, Werblin Center, Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library of Science and Medicine, Busch Suites, BCC, Buell Apts., Werblin Center

B ROUTE HISTORY:
September 1986-May 1987

Stop Order:  Livingston Student Center, Towers, Quads, Physical Plant, Quads, Towers, Louis Brown Athletic Center (RAC), Health Center, BAMM, ASB, Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library of Science and Medicine, Taylor Road, Davidson Dining Hall, Busch Campus Center, ASB, BAMM, Health Center, Beck Hall, Livingston Student Center

September 1987-May 1995

Stop Order:  Livingston Student Center, Towres, Quads, Health Center, BAMM, ASB, Busch Campus Center, Davidson Dining Hall, Library of Science and Medicine, Science Buildings, Hill Center, Werblin Recreation Center (2 stops added in 1992 or 1993), ASB, BAMM, Health Center, Beck Hall, Livingston Student Center

-The Physical Plant stop/loop got dropped from the route.  This allows the B route to run clockwise on Livingston, something it kept for some 16 years.

-The B bus now runs COUNTER CLOCKWISE on Busch.  It would continue doing this for nearly ten years.

September 1995-May 1996

Stop Order:  Livingston Student Center, Towers, Quads, Health Center, BAMM, ASB, Busch Campus Center, Davidson Dining Hall, Taylor Road, Johnson Apts, Library of Science & Medicine, Science Buildings, Hill Center, Werblin Recreation Center (2 stops),

-The B bus now only services the BAMM and ASB stops once, coming in from Livingston.

September 1996-May 1998

Stop Order:  Livingston Student Center, Towers, Quads, Health Center, BAMM, ASB, Busch Campus Center, Werblin Recreation Center (2 stops), Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library of Science & Medicine, Johnson Apts, Taylor Road, Davidson Dining Hall, Health Center, Beck Hall, LIvingston Student Center

-The B bus now returns to running in a clockwise direction on Busch, something it hadn't done in ten years.

September 1998-May 2004

Stop Order:  LSC, Towers, Quads, Health Center, BCC, Werblin Center [2 stops], Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library Sci/Med, Johnson Apts, Taylor Road, Busch Suites/Davidson, Health Center, Beck Hall, Lot 100

-The B route no longer makes a left onto Metlars Lane and the right onto Bevier to get into Busch anymore.  This changes makes the B route what it is up to the recent Davidson Road/Avenue E road changes in May of 2004.

-Articulated buses appear on the B line... but only for exams at first...  The first time this occured was in Spring of 2003.

May 2004-October 2004

Stop Order:  LSC, Towers, Quads, Health Center, BCC, Werblin Center [2 stops], Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library Sci/Med, Johnson Apts, Taylor Road, Busch Suites/Davidson, Health Center, Beck Hall, Lot 100

The B routes changes only in road portions traveled due to...

-The newly constructed portion of Avenue E... alternatively referred to as the Realigned Avenue E, opened in time for final exams for the Spring 2004 Semester.

-The portion of Davidson Road between the ASB1 building at Metlars Lane will become a dead end street... meaning that you can't enter Busch in this way anymore (or even go STRAIGHT TO) Livingston from Busch.  Use of Hoes Lane turning into Avenue E (and Vice-Versa) will be vital.

**This change was to have gone into effect April 2004, but due to delays caused by weather, the changes were held back.

October 2004-May 2005

Stop Order:  LSC, Towers, Quads, Health Center, BCC, Werblin Center [2 stops], Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library Sci/Med, Johnson Apts, Taylor Road, Busch Suites/Davidson, Health Center, Beck Hall, Lot 100

The B routes changes AGAIN only in road portions traveled due to...

-The area of Route 18 where Metlars Lane and Hoes Lane meets.

-An articulated bus was put into service on the B route starting in February of 2005, to increase the # of seats/space available.

September 2005-December 2006

Stop Order:  LSC, Towers, Quads, Health Center, BCC, Werblin Center [2 stops], Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library Sci/Med, Johnson Apts, Busch Suites/Davidson, Beck Hall, Lot 100

-The Taylor Road bus stop has been removed.

-The Health Center stop (enroute TO Livingston) has been removed.

-The B Route (during the day) becomes all articulated buses during Spring of 2006, due to overcrowding/space concerns.

-The B Route will change at the start of the Spring Semester 2007 in part due to concerns/complaints that plagued the B in its current set up (overcrowding &  buses not running on time amongst the more popular reasons)

January 2007-May 2007

Stop Order:  LSC, Towers, Quads, Health Center, Werblin Rec Center, Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library Sci/Med, Johnson Apts, Busch Suites/Davidson, BCC, Beck Hall, Lot 100

-The B route was changed due at the start of the Spring 2007 Semester due to the high # of complaints regarding travel TO Busch FROM Livingston.

As you knew (prior to 1/07), the "B" route's first stop ON BUSCH was the Busch Campus Center.  This sometimes led to a 1-3 minute wait/layover as people got onto/off the bus at the Campus Center.  Also, people not wanting to walk from the BCC to Hill Center/ARC boarded the B bus here, as it was the 'best bus alternate' to do this (the H was just slightly longer although the method was similar but direction was different).  This led to:  crammed buses due to people who boarded the bus back at Livingston that were STILL trying to get to class at places near/at the Hill Center and ARC; new people that needed to get to class on Livingston from Busch, and people who didn't feel like walking across Busch to get to class.  This often led to people not being to BOARD/use the bus as a result.  Please the buses would sometimes sit at the campus center (often until the driver's required departure time), resulting in some students being LATE.

This new method has the students getting to class much faster (from Livingston to Busch), and freed enough space for people legitimately trying to travel from Busch back to Livingston.

The negative:  The B (along with the A) is now an option to travel from the Hill Center/ARC BACK to the BCC.  The H bus was now sometimes crammed with those people who didn't want to walk from the BCC to the ARC/Hill Center.

-

September 2007-May 2008

Stop Order:  LSC, Quads, Health Center, Werblin Rec Center, Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library Sci/Med, Johnson Apts, Busch Suites/Davidson, BCC, Beck Hall, Lot 100

-The only thing that got changed was the removal of the "Towers" bus stop on Livingston.  It made sense as the "Towers" and the "LSC" bus stops are not very far apart from each other-removing a 'redundant' stop improved efficiency.

Starting in the Spring of 2008, the nighttime "College Ave / Busch" route was changed from the "A" to the H", thus the "H" bus ran around the Busch Campus in a counterclockwise direction, while the "B" ran in a clockwise direction.  After 9 PM, when the "A" stopped for the evening, people now use the "B" as it's a more convienent option in certain cases, for example, if they didn't want to walk, and to go from the Hill Center back to the Suites.  The "B" bus sees a bit more action now (in the 9 PM to 2 AM timeframe).

September 2008-Present

Stop Order:  LSC, Quads, Health Center, Werblin Rec Center, Hill Center, Science Buildings, Library Sci/Med, Busch Suites/Davidson, BCC, Beck Hall (1), Lot 100 (2)

-The only thing that got changed was the removal of the Johnson Apartments Bus Stop.

(1)  Beck Hall stop removed at start of Fall 2011 due to construction.  Replaced by the new Livingston Plaza stop up Rockefeller Road near Rockefeller/Joyce Kilmer.

(2)  Lot 100 stop removed at start of Fall 2011 due to construction.  Lot 100 doesn't exist anymore...

C ROUTE HISTORY:
September 1986-May 1987

Stop Order:  Food Science Lot 98, Martin Hall, Corwin, Cooper Dining Hall, Gibbons, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Food Science Lot 98

Yes, the original C route ran on Cook/Douglass, not on Busch.

Reminder that while the actual stop order is correct, the map to the left is only an approximation of the route.

This route disappeared at the end of the 86-87 school year.  The route would not resurface until about 2 years have passed... on a different campus...

September 1989-May 1992

Stop Order:  Hill Center, Stadium West Lot

This is the C Route, revived for service on Busch, after previously being at Cook/Douglass.  Yes, the road area near the Hill Center was wide enough for the C bus to make the U-Turn.  It was a different time...

September 1992-May 2000

Stop Order:  Stadium West Lot, Werblin Rec Center, Hill Center, EOHSI, Hill Center, Werblin

-During the 1993-1994 year, the B bus would service the Stadium West Lot stop after 7:00 PM, by request only.  Back then, the B bus ran in a different direction...

September 2000-May 2004

Stop Order:  Stadium West Lot, Werblin, Hill Center, Science Buildings, ARC, Hill Center, Werblin

-Some people complained about the fact that the C bus no longer services the EOHSI stop.  People have to walk more (and take more time) to get to the EOHSI building/area from the ARC stop... and you know how time is valuable...

-The C bus will be forced to change again due to all the road changes caused by the Route 18 extension project.  And the C bus be that much more important...

September 2004-December 2008

Stop Order:  Stadium West Lot, Werblin, Hill Center, Science Buildings, ARC, Hill Center, Werblin, Lot 48A

**Due to university wide budget constraints, the idea of eliminating the "C" route starting in Fall 2008  DID come up.  As of July 2008, the "C" route is scheduled to return in September 2008... simply it's NOT cut.

January 2009-Present

Stop Order:  Stadium West Lot, Werblin, Hill Center, Science Buildings, ARC, Hill Center, Werblin

The route reverts to what it was BEFORE September 2004 thanks to the removal of Lot 48A stop.  Despite that, the wait for a C bus is still at 15 minutes.

EE ROUTE HISTORY:
September 1986-May 1989

Stop Order:  Rutgers Student Center, Scott Hall, Train Station, Cooper Dining Hall, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Corwin (after 5:00 PM), Biel Road, Henderson Apts, Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Train Station, Hamilton Street, Ledge, Rutgers Student Center

September 1989-May 1991

Stop Order:  Rutgers Student Center, Scott Hall, Train Station, Cooper Dining Hall, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Biel Road, Henderson Apts, Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Train Station, Scott Hall, Rutgers Student Center

After servicing the Train Station, the EE would make the left onto Somerset, then a right back onto College Avenue to service Scott Hall.  After that, the bus would continue to College Avenue in a northbound direction, then make a left turn on Morrell Street.  It did this to make a u-turn using Sicard, and Senior Streets so that the EE could start the trip/run over on College Avenue, back in the southbound direction.  Yes, Morrell Street was an open street at the time.

This WOULD NOT be the first time the EE would not service the Ledge stop/area and proceed to run in BOTH DIRECTIONS (North and South) on College Avenue.  After the route change in 1991, the EE would return to run in an arrangement similar to 1989 starting in September of 2003.

September 1991-1995

Stop Order:  Rutgers Student Center, Scott Hall, Train Station, Cooper Dining Hall, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Biel Road, Henderson Apts, Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Train Station, Old Queens/Van Nest Hall, Ledge, Rutgers Student Center

1995-May 1998

Stop Order:  Rutgers Student Center, Scott Hall, Train Station, Carman Street, Cooper Dining Hall, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Food Science Building, Biel Road, Henderson Apts, Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Carman Street, Train Station, Old Queens/Van Nest Hall, Ledge (later known as the Student Activities Center), Rutgers Student Center

September 1998-May 1999

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, Carman St., Cooper Dining Hall, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Food Science Building, Biel Rd, Henderson, Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Carman St., Train Station, George/Hamilton Streets, SAC

The EE changed the way it got to Douglass... sort of.  After servicing Scott Hall, it made the left onto Hamilton St. and remained on Hamilton until it becames Johnson Drive.  It makes a right onto Albany St/Route 27, then a left onto Nielsen St. to continue onto Douglass.  The only way this could backfire is if traffic is backed up on Albany St.

**Subsquently, this is how the EE GOT to Douglass for most of 2002 and 2003 if it couldn't continue straight on Johnson Drive (which would become Burnett St, then it make a right onto Richmond and then a left onto Nielsen because of all the traffic coming IN from Route 18.  The EE deviated from their normal routes (slightly) to try to keep to their schedules and to get the students around faster.

>>Corwin was serviced at night, after the F stopped running.

Fall Semester 1999

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, Train Station, Paterson Street, Liberty Street, Carman St., Cooper Dining Hall, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Corwin, Lipman Hall, Food Science Building, Biel Rd, Henderson, Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Carman St., Liberty Street, Paterson Street, Train Station, George/Hamilton Streets, SAC

The second EE change in less than 2 years.  The EE changed how it got to/from Douglass/Cook in an attempt to make the F bus more express (since it covers less area on Douglass).  It gets stuck servicing Corwin since the F has been booted over to Gibbons.  All of these changes now gets the EE covering a larger area... which includes the downtown area... where it got stuck in traffic most often.

>>>>The (4) articulated buses... which had been associated with the EE line in the past, had been moved over to the F line this semester.

>>The path that the EE traveled near Corwin was 'unique'.  As you can see by the map, after it covered the Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, and Corwin stops, it would make a right onto Nichol Ave, then make a right Lipman Ave, to loop around Passion Puddle again before making a left on College Farm Rd to continue the rest of the journey normally.

This might have confused students at Red Oak Lane... thinking that the EE is skipping THEIR stop (when it wasn't).  Lazy students at Lipman Hall trying to get to Corwin might have been baffled as well (as you  might NOT be able to tell if a EE is going to Corwin or to the Food Science Building).

Spring Semester 2000

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, Nielsen St., Carman St., Cooper Dining Hall, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Corwin, Food Science Building, Biel Rd, Henderson, Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Carman St., Nielsen St., Train Station, George/Hamilton Streets, SAC

The EE and F changed how they got to Douglass at the start of the Spring 2000 semester... the EE now using Nielsen St while the F uses George Street.

The articulated buses that had been on use for the F route had been returned to the EE line.

>>>>The path that the EE traveled near Corwin was now 'interesting' now, the EE made a left turn onto Nichol Ave after serving Corwin, then make a left (a difficult left turn given the size of the road and the EE was more often an articulated bus) onto Dudley Road (also a slightly smaller road).  The EE would then travel normally...

September 2001-May 2003

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, Nielsen St., Carman St., Cooper Dining Hall, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Food Science Building, Biel Rd,Henderson, Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Carman St., Nielsen St., Train Station, George/Hamilton Streets, SAC

The EE drops the Corwin stop (for its daytime run) to allow the F bus back to what it was before Fall of 1999.

**The EE deviated from their normal routes (slightly) to try to keep to their schedules and to get the students around faster. If it couldn't continue straight on Johnson Drive after coming from Scott Hall, the EE would make a right onto Albany Street/Route 27, then a left onto Nielsen St where it would proceed normally.  Normally it would staty on Johnson Drive,  which would become Burnett St, then making a right onto Richmond and then a left onto Nielsen.  Taking the alternate way did save some time, but not too much.  Making the left onto Nielsen from Albany was even more difficult because of the traffic and the short time/traffic light sequence in which vehicles could make the left.

Unfortunately the EE will have to change again... in an attempt to get the buses and passengers back and forth smoothly. To avoid traffic and drivers messing up their schedules for example...

>>Corwin was serviced at night, after the F stopped running.

September 2003-May 2005

Stop Order:  Brower Commons, Nielsen St., Carman St., Cooper Dining Hall, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Food Science Building, Biel Rd, Henderson, Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Carman St., Nielsen St., Train Station, Scott Hall

This change from 9/2003 to 5/2005 was designed to help improve travel between CAC and Douglass/Cook.  This change only applied to the EE route 7 AM - 8 PM Monday-Friday.

>>The EE had the chance to get caught up in Route 18 South Traffic, which often happened between 3-6 PM Monday-Friday.  When traffic got that bad, the EEs were rerouted in the following fashion:

Leave Brower Commons.  Make a left turn onto Senior Street, then a left onto Sicard Street.  Make a left turn onto Bartlett Street, then a right onto College Ave.  Service Scott Hall again before making a left turn onto Hamilton Street.  Keep going straight beyond the light, where Hamilton turns into Johnson Drive.  Make a right turn onto Albany Street then a left onto Nielsen Street.  The EE will proceed as normal from there.

>>The change initiated in September 2005 didn't change the route too much...

September 2005-May 2006

Stop Order:  Brower Commons, Nielsen St, Rockoff Hall, Public Safety South, Cabaret, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Food Science Building, Biel Rd, Labor Education, Henderson (later reenstated), Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Public Safety North., Liberty St, Nielsen St., Train Station, Scott Hall

Rockoff Hall opened by the Fall of 2005, and the EE bus would be the only bus servicing it directly during the normal school year.  (The only other bus would be the 'ALL CAMPUSES', but it wasn't during the NORMAL school year...)

This change on the route was to give people an extra option if they wanted to get off near Rockoff-at the Liberty Street bus stop-coming from Cook/Douglass, besides the F bus (which underwent its own revision in September of 2005).

The EE gets off at George Street at Liberty Street, when it made a right turn.  Then the bus gets onto Nielsen Street.  Often times, illegally parked cars, and delivery cars near the corner of George and Liberty made it difficult for the buses to make the right turn.  When those situations arose when the driver knew it would be impossible or just too risky, the buses just continued going straight on George Street back to the College Ave campus.

The # of EE buses in service was set at 8 (up from 6 at the end of the Spring 2005) at the beginning of the Fall 2005 Semester, due to the elimination of the G and GG semester.  When the REXBs and REXLs got created, the # of EE buses got bumped back down to its normal complement of 6.

September 2006-10/27/2006

Stop Order:  Brower Commons, Nielsen St, Rockoff Hall, Public Safety South, Cabaret, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Food Science Building, Biel Rd, Labor Education, Henderson, Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Public Safety North., Liberty St, Paterson St., Train Station, Scott Hall

The EE bus stops on Nielsen Street (ON THE WAY BACK TO COLLEGE AVE) were removed from the route, as the EE eliminated that tricky (and often unsafe) turn from George to Liberty.  The EE now goes straight on George Street past the LIberty Street stop.

10/30/2006-May 2009

Stop Order:  Brower Commons, Rockoff Hall, Public Safety South, Cabaret, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Food Science Building, Biel Rd, Labor Education, Henderson, Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Public Safety North., Liberty St, Paterson St., Train Station, Scott Hall

With work on Route 18 construction proceeding along, the route needed to be changed, according to whatever roads were open and closed...

This was the change that was supposed to take effect when the Richmond St exit off of 18 South closed.  It didn't happen right away because the New Street exit off of 18 South didn't open as expected.

September 2009-late June 2010

Stop Order:  Rutgers Student Center, Scott Hall, Train Station, Paterson Street, Rockoff Hall, Public Safety South, Cabaret, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Food Science Building, Biel Rd, Henderson, Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Public Safety North., Liberty St, Paterson St., Train Station, Zimmerli Art Museum, Student Activities Center

>>Labor Education had been removed from the route during the Summer of 2009 (late July), but was added  back onto the route starting on 9/14/2009.

>>The EE would become the only bus to service the downtown New Brunswick area due to the F route changing Fall 2009 as well.  The F becomes the express version of the EE (whereas the EE was sort of the express of the F in the past).

>>The EE route was now the same daytime or nighttime, weekday or weekend, for the first time since Fall of 1999, until the end of Spring 2010.

late June 2010-December 2010

Stop Order:  Rutgers Student Center, Scott Hall, Train Station, Neilson Street southbound/Paterson Street, Rockoff Hall, Public Safety South, Cabaret, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Food Science Building, Biel Rd, Henderson, Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Public Safety North., C-Town, Neilson Street northbound/Paterson St., Train Station, Zimmerli Art Museum, Student Activities Center

>>The EE route changed to this due to construction that started in downtown New Brunswick during the Summer of 2010.

>>The EE route was eliminated for the remainder of Summer 2010 starting in late June, in part due to budget issues/funding.  The EE route for the rest of Summer 2010 would be intergrated in part by the new  "A All Campuses" (the same as the regular "All Campuses" route) and the "L All Campuses" routes that took over the rest of Summer 2010.  These routes would later become the "Weekend 1" and the "Weekend 2" routes starting Fall 2010.  The EE now becomes a semester weekday only route.

F ROUTE HISTORY:
The original F sign.
September 1986-May 1990

Stop Order:  Rutgers Student Center, Scott Hall, Cooper Dining Hall, Gibbons, College Hall, (not on map:  stop on George Street near the Train Station), Scott Hall, Rutgers Student Center

The F bus was sort of an express route/alternative to the E and EE routes.

The F would make the left onto Somerset, then a right back onto College Avenue to service Scott Hall after servicing College Hall on Douglass.  After that, the bus would continue to College Avenue in a northbound direction, then make a left turn on Morrell Street.  It did this to make a u-turn using Sicard and Senior Streets so that the F could start the trip/run over on College Avenue, back in the southbound direction.  Yes, Morrell Street was an open street at the time.

September 1990-May 1991

Stop Order:  Rutgers Student Center, Scott Hall, Cooper Dining Hall, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, College Hall, Scott Hall, Rutgers Student Center

The F route switched as an express to Gibbons to an express to Corwin.  The F route would later dump Corwin for Gibbons for only 1 year starting in September of 1999.

And it would be about 12 years LATER (Fall 2003) until a College Ave route servicing Cook/Douglass would again travel on College Avenue in a NORTHBOUND direction (the EE during the daytime)...

September 1992-May 1994

Stop Order:  Rutgers Student Center, Scott Hall, Cooper Dining Hall, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Corwin, College Hall, Van Nest Hall/Old Queens (added in 9/93), Ledge, Rutgers Student Center

September 1994-May 1999

Stop Order:  Rutgers Student Center, Scott Hall, Train Station, Paterson St, Liberty Street, Carman Street, Cooper Dining Hall, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Corwin, College Hall, Carman Street, Liberty Street, Paterson St, Train Station, Ledge (later known as the Student Activities Center), Rutgers Student Center

-The F now services the downtown New Brunswick area, due to the loss of the E route.

Fall Semester 1999

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, Nielsen St., Carman St., Red Oak Lane, Gibbons, College Hall, Nielsen St., Train Station, George/Hamilton Sts., SAC

-The F route was radically changed in at attempt to get students to/from Douglass faster... and to better serve Hickman Hall area.  Students would simply have to get off at Gibbons, cross the really busy and dangerous street, and there they'd be at Hickman, instead of getting off at Cooper, then walking to the bridge near Loree (all of which takes time) to get to Hickman.

-Articulated buses were placed on this route to help move larger # of students faster and quicker.  This meant the EE route during the Fall of 1999 HAD NO articulated buses.

Spring Semester 2000

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, Train Station, Paterson St., Librety Street, Carman St., Cooper Dining Hall, Gibbons, College Hall, Carman St., Liberty Street, Paterson St., Train Station, George/Hamilton Sts., SAC

-The F route was again changed, to help the EE get back and forth a little quicker.  (It wasn't fun being stuck in downtown NB traffic).

-The articulated buses that were on the F route during Fall 1999 were moved back to the EE for the Spring of 2000.

When the routes and buses flipped around, things slightly got stranger.  There were reports of a "FX" bus route running.  No, there weren't 11 routes running <AGAIN>, nor did they get rid of one.  Some buses (the buses that Suburban ran that were in the 600's) used the 'wrong' message board, which typically read :

[FX  COLLEGE AVE]  [ FX     GIBBONS   ]   [ FX  EXPRESS   ]  instead of the usual
[F    COLLEGE AVE ]  [F    DOUGLASS   ]

I have heard from two people that there were special 'stronger-than plastic' colored route boards (Like this one for example  ) that said 'FX' on it.  The exact colors varied (from red, gold or gold lettering).  The F sign was previously red, while the only sign that normally gold was the B sign.  I never did see such a 'FX' sign-only rumors...  The only thing 'FX' that I saw with my own two eyes was the message board displays...

September 2000-May 2005

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, Train Station, Paterson St., Librety Street, Carman St., Cooper Dining Hall, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Corwin, College Hall, Carman St. (later Commercial Ave), Liberty Street., Paterson St., Train Station, George/Hamilton Sts., SAC

At the start of the Fall 2000 semester, the F bus reverted to what it was before changes were made in Fall 1999.  The F bus would still travel to Douglass via George Street (the change initiated for the Spring 2000 semester), but instead of servicing Gibbons, it would service the Red Oak Lane area bus stops (which also included Corwin).  So with the change in the F route, the EE had to make one as well.  The EE bus still traveled to Douglass via Nielsen Street and Johnson Drive, but it would no longer service Corwin during the daytime.

The F bus made only a slight change for the 2002-03 school year:  it ran an extra hour Mondays-Fridays-meaning it would run until 9:30 PM.  The reason why this isn't happening anymore (for the start of Fall 2003) is because of the slight lack of demand-and that there were many EE and F buses sitting idle at the RSC and Red Oak Lane instead being in more constant motion (that and the not very high demand).  During the extra hour of F service, the EE would of course still be running... though any articulated EEs still in service had gone back to CAC via Nielsen St [and go to Douglass via Route 18]. (and will NOT service Corwin), while any normal EE was MOST LIKELY the NIGHTTIME EE bus... and had gone back to CAC via George St (and serviced Corwin).
Some of the reasons for the extra hour of the F bus in the first place:
1)  Only 2 EEs in service after 8:30 PM.  Getting to/from is a long wait (the drivers didn't follow their schedules correctly at times, plus the length of the EE route is LONG)... especially if spaces were at a premium (situations include:  students in classes that took place either in Periods 8 and 9 or just simply trying to get to a party)
2)  It was a slight slap in the face/insult for those trying to get to College Ave from Douglass to see more G and GG buses pass by while waiting for the 2 remaining EE buses.   The G and GG routes each had 4 buses which ran until 10:30 PM... though those buses never ran correctly at times anyway, which explains why people saw more of those and less EE's.

The F buses wouldn't run that late again until 2005...

August 31-September 12, 2005

Stop Order:  College Ave Student Center, Scott Hall, Train Station, Paterson St., Mason Gross Building on Livingston Ave, College Hall, Rutgers Public Safety Building, Liberty Street, Paterson St., Train Station, intersection of George and Hamilton Sts., Student Activities Center, College Ave. Student Center

>>This was the initial change to the F Route at the beginning of the Fall 2005 semester.  Changes were made to the EE and F Routes when the G and GG Routes were eliminated.  The G and GG buses were notouriously known for not running on time.  The idea was that it would be faster to travel to College Ave from Cook/Douglass then connect to a Busch or Livingston bus (and vice-versa) than having to wait for a G or GG bus.   The changes to the EE and F routes were also made to try to avoid any construction delays/problems that would result due to work on Route 18.

>>Unfortunately, these changes didn't quite work as expected.  Changed parking rules, Traffic and overcrowded EE buses helped make bus travel a nightmare for several students trying to get to/from Cook/Douglass and Busch or Livingston.  Rutgers Parking and Transportation monitored the situation and came up with a solution to the problem in the meantime... by changing the F route.  Starting on September 13, 2005, the F route would hit stops on BOTH Cook and Douglass (a.k.a. the stops the EE route would make).

>>Luckily, this change was made much faster than the first change to the doomed AX route back in 2000.  That route first changed in OCTOBER, before getting the 'ax' itself (it got cut) after May 2001.

The # of F buses in service was set at 7 (up from 4 at the end of the Spring 2005) at the beginning of the Fall 2005 Semester, due to the elimination of the G and GG  semester.  When the REXBs and REXLs got created, along with the next revision of the F route, the # of F buses got bumped back down, but only to 5.

**The F route would never get that many buses ever again, except during the first 3 weeks of the Fall 2009 semester.  The normal 6 F buses was complemented by an extra seventh, temporary F bus, which only ran between 2-7 PM.

September 13, 2005-May 2009

Stop Order:  College Ave Student Center, Scott Hall, Train Station, Paterson St., Mason Gross Building on Livingston Ave, Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Food Science Building, Biel Road, Labor Education, Henderson, Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Public Safety Building, Liberty Street, Paterson Street, Train Station, Zimmerli Art Museum, Student Activities Center

>>This is the first time that the F Route would touch the main portions of the Cook Campus.

>>This is also the first time in about 10 years that there were 2 routes that served both College Avenue and the Cook/Douglass Campuses (in their entirety).  The last time this happened was before 1994... with the E and EE Routes.

>>

September 2009 to May 2011

Stop Order:  College Ave Student Center, Scott Hall, Public Safety Building, Jameson,  Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Food Science Building, Biel Road, Labor Education (later eliminated), Henderson, Katzenbach, Gibbons, College Hall, Public Safety Building, Liberty Street, Paterson Street, Train Station, Zimmerli Art Museum, Student Activities Center

>>The F route now becomes an 'express' version of the EE (where as the EE was made to more express/viable than the F during the day between 2000 to 2009).  The F no longer services the downtown New Brunswick area (which had upset the people who went to/from the Mason Gross building as there was no longer any bus that stopped directly in front of the building; now people had to use the EE from Paterson or Rockoff).  This of course added the burden to the EE route.

>>The F route now somewhat resembles what it was from September 1992 to about May of 1994.

>>All of the articulated buses that were normally on the EE route were transferred to run on the F route.  The maximum # of EE buses got changed from 6 to 5; and the maximum # of F buses got changed from 5 to 6 as well.  Articulated buses were occasionally used on the EE route when available (especially late at night).

>>The F route stopped servicing Labor Education due to the fact that the articulated buses on the route would occasionally get stuck by occasionallyillegally parked cars in the parking lot at Labor Education where the buses do their U-Turn.  While the (now) smaller EE buses could (not always) get by without getting stuck, the larger F buses weren't (always) so lucky.  Also, eliminating this stop made the F buses more express/a viable option between College Ave and Cook/Douglass.

September 2011 to Present

Stop Order:  College Ave Student Center, Scott Hall, Public Safety Building, Jameson, Food Science Building, Biel Road, Katzenbach, College Hall, Public Safety Building, Liberty Street, Paterson Street, Train Station, Zimmerli Art Museum, Student Activities Center

>>The F route now becomes a more 'express' version of the EE (or itself prior) than ever before.  The F no longer services Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, Henderson and Gibbons.

H ROUTE HISTORY:
September 1986-November 1999

Stop Order:  Rutgers Student Center, Scott Hall, the Ledge (later known as the Student Activities Center), BAMM, ASB, BCC, Davidson Dining Hall, Taylor Road (added by 1994), Johnson Apts (added by 1994), Library of Science & Medicine, Science Buildings (later known at the ARC), Hill Center, Werblin Recreation Center Back(added by 1992 or 1993), Stadium West Lot (added in 1998) Stadium, Rutgers Student Center

This is the H route that held up (with stop additions) for more than 13 years until the new century came around, when the route would undergo several changes in under 2 years.

December 1999-May 2000

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Silvers Apts, Buell Apts, BCC, Davidson, Taylor Road, Johnson Apts, Library Sci/Med, ARC, Hill Center, Werblin Back, Stadium West Lot, Stadium

-The change was made on how to get into Busch because it was dangerous to make left turns onto Bevier Road from Metlars Lane (many accidents occured).  Also if traffic was bad... many cars, L and LX buses could be stuck waiting behind a H bus trying to make that left turn...

September 2000-October 2000

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Buell Apts (2 stops), BCC, Davidson, Taylor Road, Johnson Apts, Library Sci/Med, ARC, Hill Center, Werblin (2 stops), Buell Apts, ASB, Marvin

-Along with the enactment of the AX route, this change to the H route was a BIG disaster waiting to happen.  Students on Busch getting to College Ave had a difficult time finding a bus that did so... as the H make long passes/loops on Busch before it went to College Ave.  [It was frustrating waiting at the ASB stop or the Buell Apts stop on Bartholomew Road wondering whether the H bus is inbound or outbound.]  Granted the H gave students the chance from getting from one end (like the ARC/Hill Center) of Busch to another (like the BCC/Buell/BAMM Dorms) a little quicker (BESIDES the B bus partially).  Factor in traffic... and the somewhat confusing way the bus ran...

**Subsequently, this is how the nighttime College Ave/Busch route operated from September 2000 until December 2002.

October 2000-May 2001

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Lot 48A, Werblin, Buell Apts, BCC, ASB, Marvin Apts.

-Changes were made in October 2000 to both the AX and H routes, after several complaints were made.  The H route now became 'Residential Exclusive,' along with the whopping 5 buses that ran on the route to keep things going.  Still there was something missing... oh yeah... an alternate way to get from areas around the BCC to areas around the ARC/Library of Science and Medicine BESIDES the B bus (or walking).

September 2001-May 2004

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Lot 48A, Werblin Front, Buell Apts, BCC, Davidson, Taylor Road, Johnson Apts, Library Sci/Med, ARC, Hill Center, Werblin Back, Stadium West Lot, Lot 48

-Ah... the H bus changes again... in time for new bus provider Academy to work its magic onto Rutgers.  Why I believe they've started with a bang... the 2002 H bus did collide with McCormick dorm at the start of the semester...

-This is subsequently the nighttime 'College Ave to Busch' route... effective December 2002 until May 2004 when Brett and Bevier Roads closed down due to Construction.  Remember that at night, it's the "A"... (the letter change took effect in 2003).

-The first time articulated buses were put to use on the H route was during the Fall 2001 semester.  While this helped to get residents back to Busch, and students back to College Ave. greatly, there was an event that occured that some of us may not forget.  On September 6, 2001, articulated bus #2002, which just recently left the Busch Campus Center, went off the road and took a fatal plunge right into the McCormick residence hall.  This resulted in the reroute of the A (all academic areas only ~or~ the A briefly relived the days of the "AX"), the B, the G, and the remaining Hs (small portions of the residental areas only ~or~ the H briefly had dejavu and relived the days of the "H" back in Oct 2000-May 2001) as it took a while to clear the bus out.  The driver claimed that the brakes weren't working and everyone on the bus only affected some minor injuries.  This event was not kept quiet... the major newspapers (the Targum, the Star Ledger, and the Home News Tribune) and the TV stations (UPN~WWOR Channel 9) aired/mentioned the story.  It took a while to exactly determine the cause of the accident (not as long to get the residents back into the affected areas of the building though).  At one point, it was said that the bus was only going 11 MPH.  The eventual result of this incident is that the bus was working fine, and that the driver would be charged with this.  Plus the fatal crash would be mentioned and joked about, even a year or so later...

I am so fortunate though, because on this date, I took an H bus back to College Ave-because I had nothing better to do at the time.  I know... I could have taken an A bus, but as I said... nothing better to do (that and it was the beginning of the year...)!  Had I boarded the H bus one or two busses later, it could have been me taking that 'dive.'  Even more so... I tend to sit in the front of the bus whenever possible...

September or October 2004 (exact date unknown) - May 2005

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Werblin Front, Buell Apts, Busch Campus Center, Davidson Hall, Taylor Road, Johnson Apts, Library of Science and Medicine, ARC, Hill Center, Werblin Back, Stadium (left off the route for some of September 2004), Lot 48, RSC

-Dropping the Stadium West Lot stop was supposed to let the H bus get around a little faster, as not a whole lot of people were getting off at the stop coming from the Hill Center or ARC.  Due to this, connecting to the C bus would be more important... had this actually worked.  The stop got reenstated later on.

September 2005-May 2008

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Werblin Front, Buell Apts, Busch Campus Center, Davidson Hall, Johnson Apts, Library of Science and Medicine, ARC, Hill Center, Stadium, Lot 48, RSC

>>Stops removed:  Taylor Road and Werblin Recreation Center (the back entrance) stop on Frelinghuysen Road BEFORE the traffic circle

September 2008-December 2008

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Werblin Front, Buell Apts, Busch Campus Center, Davidson Hall, Library of Science and Medicine, ARC, Hill Center, Stadium, Lot 48, RSC

>>Stops removed:  Johnson Apartments

January 2009-Present

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, Train Station (added starting in November 2010; but after 9:30 PM ONLY), SAC, Werblin Front, Buell Apts, Busch Campus Center, Davidson Hall, Library of Science and Medicine, ARC, Hill Center, Stadium,  RSC

>>Stops removed:  Lot 48.

This resulted in the bus route changing so that the bus doesn't pass by the former lot at all; which actually added a few more seconds to the travel time as the bus is directed to go BACK to the traffic circle after the Stadium before getting to the highway.

LX ROUTE HISTORY:
Second LX in green was one that probably was used at around the time when it first debuted...
**Information about the LX Route prior to 1998 was derived from the 1996-1997 Rutgers University Student Directory plus the 1997-1998 campus map.

September 1996-May 1998

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Health Center, Beck Hall, LSC, Towers, Quads, Health Center

-September 1996 was the year that probably many people were waiting for... a SECOND College Avenue to Livingston (and vice-versa) route... and this one an express one to boot!  The birth of the LX route marks a return to the TEN ROUTE CAMPUS BUS SYSTEM that HAD NOT been in place since 1993.  [9 routes were in place from 9/1994 to 5/1996 ever since the E route got dropped after 5/1994]

Of course that was the good news... an alternate way to get around.  There was of course, BAD NEWS.  Like the H bus for several years, the LX bus didn't run past 7 PM.  In fact, the LX... when it first debuted, only ran from 7 AM to 5 PM.

-As you can tell, the LX route really was EXPRESS... as least back then.  After servicing the Quads stop, the LX would make a right turn on Avenue E, making one more stop at the Health Center.  Then it would make a left turn onto Metlars Lane to get back to College Ave.

-The LX from 1996-98 can be considered by some to be the true incarnation of the "Livingston Express" route.  This is so because of things were slightly different years ago.  I'll explain more below...

-Note that the LX back in Fall of 1996 closely resembled the L back in Fall of 1986.  That's 10 years...  There would be more changes to the LX route over the years.  It'd take nearly 10 years (see below; Spring 2007) for the route to go back to a (similar) setup as it was when it first started.

September 1998-May 2004

Stop Order (9/1998-5/2001): RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Health Center, Beck Hall, Lot 100 (added later on), LSC, Towers, Quads
Stop Order (9/2001-4/2004):  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Health Center, Beck Hall, Lot 100, LSC, Towers, Quads, Facilities, Cedar Lane Apts (2 stops)

-I mentioned above that the LX in 97-98 could be considered the true incarnation of the "Livingston Express" route.  Starting in 9/98, the LX would undergo changes that would make it less express as the years progressed...
-In 9/98, the LX no longer returned to College Ave using Metlars Lane.  Instead it started using Cedar Lane and River Road... Indeed it would take longer to get back to College Ave... but you have to realize one factor... traffic on Metlars Lane... especially at the entry roads to Busch.  The amount of time spent on an LX utilizing Cedar Lane and River Road to get back to CAC (all with minimum stops, little traffic, and optimum speed) is about the same of an LX utilizing Metlars Lane (with traffic, and not-so-optimum speed)-though give or take some minutes.)
-After servicing the LX stop, the bus would continue along Road 3 until it got to the intersections of Road 3 and Road 1.  It would proceed straight until it got to Warehouse Rd-passing by the Facilities stop along the way.  Make a right onto it, then a left onto Road 1, then a right onto Cedar Lane.  It didn't do this from Fall 1999-until Mid-Spring 2001.  It made a right turn onto Road 1 immediately at the intersection, continuing on the road until making the right onto Cedar Lane.  This 'change' helped to bypass the stop signs (those and the sometimes endlessly flow of cars which had right of way that came from opposite directions) which slowed down the LX when it had previously made the right turn onto Warehourse, and then the left onto Road 1.  It resumed this 'longer route' for the remainder of Spring 2001 until now...
-The more recent action that made the LX 'less express' was the addition of three stops to the route.  In September 2001, the LX would now service the Facilities stop, and both Cedar Lane Apartments stops onroute to CAC.  The good news is that the students trying to get to CAC from Cedar Lane no longer had to depend on the L, for they had an additional choice.  The bad news is that this made the LX less frequent.  Also what might happen is that if students ON Livingston chose to use the LX to get to CAC, there won't be many seats/spaces left (if at all) by the time the bus makes it to Cedar Lane (especially ture for class breaks and rush hours).  This forces the people at Cedar Lane to still use the L or wait for the next LX (if they unsuccessfully tried to cram into a packed LX).

-Back in 1999, the LX operated from about 7 AM until about 7 PM.  This made getting to/from College Ave/Livingston a bit messy... as there were only the 3 L buses left.  In the Spring of 2000, the LX was (SECRETLY) extended by about an extra hour or so (MIDWAY THROUGH THE SEMESTER).  It wasn't until the Fall of 2000 when the new schedule was made 'official'/'public.'  (Though the change was made on the Parktran site that probably went unnoticed by many.)

September 2004-December 2006

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Health Center****, Beck Hall, Lot 100, LSC, Towers, Quads, Facilities, Cedar Lane Apts (2 stops)

Note:  Had things NOT have been delayed, this change would have gone into effect for the remaining week/few days in the Spring 2004 semester.

**** = stop removed from the route by Fall 2005.

>>Prior to this change at the end of Fall 2006, the LX DOES get back to College Ave faster than the L-particularly the RSC stop.  As it regards to the Scott Hall area stops, both the L and the LX make it there (in different directions>the LX down College Ave, the L up George St.) at around the same time. Keep in mind that the 'rule' is based on favorable weather and traffic conditions.

>>Concerns about the length of time it took to travel from Livingston back to College Avenue finally led to a route change for the start of Spring Semester 2007...

January 2007-May 2007

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, SAC, Beck Hall, Lot 100, LSC, Towers, Quads, Health Center

>>The LX route, starting from January 2007, closely resembled the route when it started back in September of 1996.  In simplest terms, the "X" was being put back into the "LX."

>>The LX now loops around the Livingston campus in a similar fashion to the "B."

>>The LX now gets onto Route 18 South in a similar fashion to the "REXL" (and also later the B after its change)

September 2007-Present

>>The LX no longer services the Towers, really adding the "X" in "LX".

Stop Order:  RSC, Scott Hall, Train Station (added starting in November 2010; but after 9:30 PM ONLY), SAC, Beck Hall (1), Lot 100 (2), LSC, Quads, Health Center

REXB ROUTE HISTORY:
9/19/2005 - 10/27/2006

STOP LIST:

Red Oak Lane, Lipman Hall, College Hall, Hill Center, Science Building, A.R.C., Hill Center, Public Safety Building South, Cabaret, Red Oak Lane

The REXB was created weeks into the Fall 2005 Semester.  When the "G" was disbanded (partly due to the ever increasing impact/scope of Route 18 construction now that it shifted from the Busch/Livingston area to the Cook/Douglass area), the idea was for people to take the "A" or the "H" from Busch to College Ave, then transfer to/take the "EE" or the "F" (which started as a different route in the beginning of Fall 2002, and changed prior to the creation of the REXB/REXL) to Cook/Douglass, and vice-versa.  One of the ideas was that it was suppose to be faster and more efficent transferring between buses rather than sitting in traffic.  This didn't work so well, with reasons that included NORMAL heavy passenger traffic during the beginning of the Fall Semster, routine traffic on 18 South and George Street that plagued the "EE" and "F", and the way the "F" was set up at the time.  An 'express' version of the former "G" was set up quickly to solve some the problems that the students were experiencing.

"REXB" is actually short for "RUTGERS EXPRESS BUSCH."

In the beginning, the destination signs were NOT programmed.  Paper signs had to be used, and the buses' destination signs simply read as "SPECIAL."  Later, the destination signs were programmed with the route name, and the word "SPECIAL."  The signs don't mention anything otherwise.

Also in the beginning, the route started with 4 buses (the normal # of G buses in service had been 5), but that got dropped to 3 later in the Fall.

Again, this is an express route, from the main academic/classroom areas on Busch to/from the main academic classroom areas on Cook/Douglass.  Unfortunately as a result (unlike the REXL), the campus student center WAS NOT a stop on the route.  The ARC/Science Buildings bus stops was one of two transfer stops from the REXB to the A, B, C, or H buses (and vice-versa).  Students at the campus center either had to walk or take a bus (B or H) to the ARC to get to the REXB.

Red Oak Lane  and College Hall was two of the transfer stops from the REXB to the EE and F buses.

Also note that the REXB and REXL routes were not set up to stop at or near Rockoff, which didn't please certain people who lived at Rockoff and took classes on Busch and/or Livingston.  People coming from those campuses who wanted to EVENTUALLY get to Rockoff had to get off at a different bus stop (Public Safety being the closest, as an example), and walk the remaining distance (which isn't pleasant depending on the weather or general feeling walking through certain areas of New Brunswick) or take a connecting bus that headed to Liberty Street (EE or the F).

With work on Route 18 construction proceeding along, the route needed to be changed, according to whatever roads were open and closed...

10/30/06 - 11/17/06

>>The REXB now uses New Street on the way to Busch which just reopened months ahead of schedule, to go from Cook/Douglass.  The old way of exit, Commercial Ave, closed down going to 18 N.

>>This was supposed to have gone into effect after 9 PM on 10/27/2006, but rainy weather pushed it back.

>>Route will change again when the Richmond Street exit off of 18 South later finally closed.

11/17/06 - Mid Fall 2007

>>The REXB now gets off of 18 South at Tabernacle Way instead of New Street.  This was designed to get back to Cook/Douglass a bit faster than normal.

>>Route will change again when the Commerical Avenue exit off of 18 South was finally done.

Mid Fall 2007-December 2008

>>The REXB now gets off of 18 South at Commercial Avenue  instead of Tabernacle.  This was designed to get back to Cook/Douglass a bit faster than normal.

The REXL was created weeks into the Fall 2005 Semester.  When the "GG" was disbanded (partly due to the ever increasing impact/scope of Route 18 construction now that it shifted from the Busch/Livingston area to the Cook/Douglass area), the idea was for people to take the "L" or the "LX" from Livingston to College Ave, then transfer to/take the "EE" or the "F" (which started as a different route in the beginning of Fall 2002, and changed prior to the creation of the REXB/REXL) to Cook/Douglass, and vice-versa. An 'express' version of the former "GG" was set up quickly to solve some the problems that the students were experiencing.

Yes, the GG bus didn't use Route 18 (by the end of its current run), BUT traffic often backed up to the roads that the GG did use...

"REXL" is actually short for "RUTGERS EXPRESS LIVINGSTON."

In the beginning, the destination signs were NOT programmed.  Paper signs had to be used, and the buses' destination signs simply read as "SPECIAL."  Later, the destination signs were programmed with the route name, and the word "SPECIAL."  The signs don't mention anything otherwise.

Again, this is an express route, from the main academic/classroom areas on Livingston to/from the main academic classroom areas on Cook/Douglass.  Luckily for the REXL (unlike the REXB), the campus student center WAS a stop on this route.

The Livingston Student Center was one of main transfer points from the REXL to the B, L, or LX routes (and vice-versa).
