Me! The great, all-powerful... ahem......

Hiya! I'm Jaime Brooke Seltzer, twenty two years of age. I am best known for being into a dazzlingly wide variety of things, from Japanese animation (and language, and culture) to the chemistry of medicinal plants. I went to Long Beach Senior High School in Long Beach New York (not California!)

My eldest sister's husband is applying for work in the FBI, my middle sister has just returned from the wilds of the African jungle and my mother sewed her a traditional Ba'aka pygmy wedding dress. (But do you know what 'baka' means in Japanese?)

The Best and the Worst of the Bunch

My favorite classes of all time

Best Classes!

• Creative Writing

  This class really made me work hard on my writing skills, which had gotten kind of rusty, what with all those science classes. It stretched me beyond what I thought I was capable of.

• Organic Chemistry I

  People are going to throw things at me for listing this as a favorite class, but this was a great one because of the teacher. He really knew what he was doing, and he knew how to present difficult material in a way that really encouraged learning. And he pushed me VERY hard.

• Medicinal Plants/Ethnobotany

  I group these together because a lot of the lectures were the same. This is a subject I adore, and it forced me to do research that I might not have otherwise done.

• Commercial Floral Design

  Nothing like sitting down and playing with flowers, then being pleased at what you'd put together. People who thought it was a Mickey Mouse course were disappointed however, since we had to memorize the Latin and common names of 10 new plants per week, over 100 all together. Still more than worth it and very relaxing on the whole.

Stinky Classes!

• Environmental Education

  Where should I begin? Didn't know what was expected, didn't like being treated like a small child, had no idea what the objective of the course was (other than "awareness"... I am aware) didn't know why I was forced to spend the time and the money.

• Basic Statistics for Research

  An extremely disorganized professor, who insisted on handing our exams out one at a time in a class of 150, giving us assigned seats in a lecture hall, and waiting over a month to give us our test scores. The class itself is useful, if you can manage to garner the information on your own.

• Plant Genetics

  3/4 difficult material, 1/4 inept professor. If I'd known more about genetics, I probably would have been okay; since I knew next to nothing about genetics upon entering the class, I failed. :(

• the History of Witchcraft and Magic

  This class was a real let-down. When I went into this class I was expecting some case studies, some historical information, and maybe a paper or two. Instead, what I got was a film class that was accidentally cross-referenced as a Women's Studies/History. We actually watched Invasion of the Body Snatchers, for crying out loud. In a class about the history of witchcraft. (Sigh)
