HISTORY: From at least the 1960's through 2001, NJ-41 was signed as two separate roadways. Southern 41 runs from NJ-47 in Gloucester County to NJ-168 in Camden County, a span of 5 miles. Northern 41 runs from NJ-70 up to just north of NJ-73, another span of about 5 miles. The gap between NJ-168 and NJ-70 was signed as CR-573 and TEMPORARY NJ-41. In the 1960's, when this signing started, there was a plan to close the gap with a freeway bypass of most of Camden County, linking the two route 41's, thus making the temporary 41 designation disappear from CR-573. So, for 40+ years. we were stuck with a road that was signed normally, then as a temporary road, then signed normally again. The original exit listing only filled in the gap. Now, NJ-41 is a whole road. However, the entire stretch of CR-573 is still on the books, multiplexed with NJ-41. The road is still signed as CR-573/Temporary NJ-41. So, to out of town motorists, a 6 mile stretch of NJ-41 is still temporary. Now, to the fictional lists. As mentioned above, the original exit list went from mile 5 (NJ-168) to mile 11 (NJ-70). However, this left through traffic still fighting with Deptford Mall traffic. This exit list doesn't completely make that problem go away, but, it does provide a light free way to get through the Deptford Mall area. For the sake of this exit listing, I'm going to extend CR-573 along the current NJ-41 routing to Five Points.
