BIO
Rodrigo Faria was drafted by the MetroStars in 2001 in the second round. It was unsure whether he would play as a midfielder or striker. But Faria immediately proved that he was a natural born striker once the season started. Because of injuries to Clint Mathis and Aldofo Valencia, he was awarded with much playing time. Tying a league rookie record of 8 goals along with 2 assists in shortened 2001 campaign, he won MLS Rookie of the Year Award. He then went on to score 3 goals, and had one assist in the playoffs versus the L.A. Galaxy.

Faria had a lot on his shoulders in 2002 season, because he had to prove he wouldn't go through "Sophomore Jinx" that many star players go through. He started the season with a opening day goal to excite the MetroStars fans that the "Tri State Triangle" would be a threat in the league. With Diego Serna being dealt for the Revolution, and Mathis going to the World Cup, Faria picked up his pace. As of now, he has scored a total of 9 goals with 3 assists.
