Giants Stadium

Even thought Giants Stadium wasn't built specifically for soccer, many legend have played on its turf. Long before the MetroStars began playing at The Swamp, it was the home of New York's Cosmos. On this team, were the players that made soccer what it is today.

Brazilian Pelè who won three World Cup with the Samba Kings, played along side German great Franz Beckenbauer, Claudio Cinagglia, a striker that helped Italy win the 1982 World Cup in Spain. Because of these three players, the Cosmos are remembered as one of the greatest teams of the NASL.

Giants Stadium also had an important role in World Cup 1994. A handful of game were played at East Rutherford, along with a quarter-final game. Because of the great results in this World Cup, a new league was established in place of the no more North American Soccer League. This new league was to be named Major League Soccer. The MetroStars representing both states of New York and New Jersey were welcomed to play at The Swamp.

But Giants Stadium's international fame didn't end there. Brazil played the FIFA All-Stars in 1996 before the MLS All-Star game in New Jersey. The United States' both Men's and Women's teams have played several game there. The MetroStars are always inviting powerhouse teams from Europe as well from all over the Americas. Until the 2000 season, the Metros held a tournament, the Gotham Cup, in which the best teams of Europe would compete to be champions of the Gotham Cup.

Now, with seven seasons played at Giants Stadium, the MetroStars have decided it's time to build their own home. The Metros are constantly having to rearrange their schedule around the NFL season, or any important concert the NJSEA is hosting. Fans have tough times getting to the game because of the location of the stadium. Therefore, the MetroStars' front office has taken charge and are doing everything possible to move their home to Harrison, NJ. If you wish to support this move, e-mail anyone of the New Jersey Government to inform them that this stadium will help the state itself, as well as the citizens of New Jersey, and anyone out of state that are also MetroStars supporters.
