Mean and Median

The mean of a set of numbers is the average. You find the average by adding all the numbers and dividing the sum by the amount of numbers you added.

The median of a set of numbers is the middle number. If you list all the numbers in order, the median is in the middle of the list. If it’s an even amount of numbers, average the two numbers in the middle.

Examples:

21, 22, 56, 79, 85, 34 and 98. To find the mean of the numbers add all of the numbers together. The sum of the numbers equals = 395. You divide 395 by 7 (you have seven numbers) and your answer is 56.3 or 56.

To find the median of the numbers you put them in the following order ---> 21, 22, 34, 56, 79, 85, 98 or 98, 85, 79, 56, 34, 22, 21. You have a total of 7 numbers. Your median of the seven numbers is 56.
