Martin Luther King, Jr. School No. 6
85 Hamilton Avenue
2005-2006
Martin Luther King, Jr. School No. 6 is a Success For All school. The School Year 2002-03 finds us implementing the Whole School Reform Model – Success For All – in the whole school.
Last year we began implementing the program in the primary grades (K-3) and this year have expanded it to the entire school. Two reading blocks of 90 minutes each are at the core of our program. During the 90 minute reading block, instruction is given to students at their level in order to meet the goal of having all students reading on grade level by the end of third grade.
We continue to provide an extended day for students. All activities are geared to meeting the core curriculum content standards as set forth by the state of New Jersey. Of particular pride is our Jr. TIG’s (Teens in the Garden State) group, which contributes to the school and community in general. They recently participated in cleaning up a local park and facilitated a $1.00 donation collection for the children of Afghanistan. They are collecting scarves and gloves for our primary children.
Community partnerships assist us in providing special items and gifts to our children. Edy’s Ice Cream provided ice cream for the entire school, Shop-Rite donated pumpkins at Halloween for all K-2 children, Verizon is providing holiday gifts for needy families, and the American Children’s Society is providing give-away books for Read Across America Day.
Success For All is our chosen model and our goal. Working together with our families and the community we will achieve it.
