  • Jan 25, 2006: Fishing this past fall has been great. The water temps are still warm enough this year and we are still catching shorts. Here's a pic or two of my fall fishing:

  • Sept 22, 2005: Ocean temps are still warm. Wearing a bathing suit to the beach and standing in the water to fish. Catching lots of fluke and searobins on bait. Big blues are chasing the bait(anchovies) all over the place. I landed 10 blues(All over 5 pounds each) at the pocket around 4 pm today. These fish have been up and down the isle from Seaside Park to the inlet.

This is a picture of me and my brother and some of the blues that we caught on 9-22-05:

  • Sept 17, 2005: Ocean temps continue to be in the mid 70's. Incredible. I fished everyday for the past week. Here's what's happening: Small Fluke are just pouring out of the inlets into the ocean(The Wall at Point Pleasent and Barnegat Inlet Jetty). These fish are easy to catch but most were short(13 to 16 inches). I caught tons of them on spearing and cut bait. They will hit on sand diggers too! Bunker are simply all over the place so bring your casting net. There are small cocktail blues all over them. I use metal lures to catch these. You can catch about 100 of these at a time if you desire(You can only keep about 9 of them). The pocket at BI has been loaded with them. There have even been some false albies working there too. Best time has been just before sunset. Some of the bunker schools are just offshore and the boaters have been getting limits of blues in the 3 to 5 pound range on them, even a few up to 13 pounds.
Speaking of the jetty at BI, I have been getting alot of progies there this week. Use small hooks and clams. I tried using a few of them as bait but no luck. There are also loads of seabass there to. Caught a 14 incher on clam. Use poppers to catch bigger blues there at sunrise.
There are tons of sea robins around this year. You can take turns catching a fluke then a sea robin. Very rare to make a cast and not catch a fish this week. PS the sea robin bellies make a great bait as the bellie is tough and stays on the hook. Croakers are available at night time and they are scattered up and down the beach. Move around until you find them, then stay put and you will load up.
No reports of stripers yet. With this warm water they may not make a strong showing til mid Oct. Keep watching here. But for right now save your gas money. The keepers are not here yet. I even pulled an all nighter at the jetty with 3 other guys and we didn't even land one.
Crabbing has been good. About a 50/50 ratio of keepers to throw backs but the keepers are just 4 1/2 inches. They should shed agian on the full moon (9/18) and then we will get some bigger crabs. PS Shedders crabs make a great bait esp. around full moon.
Will probably put the boat in the water around the end of them month. Watch for my boating reports then. Surf reports will also start to be more frequent as I will be fishing more.
  • August 29, 2005: Ocean temps are around 78. WOW! Fishing has been great this spring and summer and I am looking forward to a record fall fishing. We are catching all sorts of fish NOW from the beach. Fluke, King Fish and Croakers are all easy targets and they will keep you busy. Plenty of weakies being caught in the bay. There are other fish being caught too. Great time to take the kids as they won't get too bored. Lots of crabs in the bay too. My daughter had 19 keepers in just an hour today.
  • April 21, 2005: Ocean water temp is finally near 50 degrees and the striper action has been fairly good. We are getting lots of short and slot fish on clams. Most of the action is happening between 5 pm and lasts til after dark. Get out there and fish. Last night we had over 20 fish in a few hours.
  • Feb 13, 2005: Here's a recap of 2004. It was one of the best years for stripers ever for me. Others have said that it was their worst year ever. WHY such a difference?? Well, Ocean county(Seaside Park and IBSP) was the hot spot.
The spring started off early with schools of 30 to 50 pound stripers being caught regularly. Lot's of big blues around too.

Not too many weakies were caught. In the summer months there were lots of big cow nosed rays around. Now I don't eat these but a 40 pound ray is alot of fun to catch.

The fall run happened later this year than in the past. The water temps stayed warm into January. On Dec 14, 2004 we had one of the best blitz's ever in IBSP. There were many of us on the beach fishing when a really large school of 30 to 40 inch stripers hit the beach. We caught as many our arms could handle. Everyone said that it was their best day fishing ever. We had schools of smaller stripers around for the next two weeks. Tons and ton of bunker and mullet passed thru the area.

Don't miss out on 2005! Ocean water temp is rising already. Fishing will start in March.

This is a picture of my first striper of 2003:

  • Oct 4, 2003: OK!!! Caught my first striper of the fall. A nice 30 incher. Clams did the trick. Also had some fishing friends staying at 10K. Happy to report that the wife caught the biggest striper at 32 inches. It was her first! So the fall run of 2003 has officially started. Water is still warm.
  • Sept 30, 2003: Water temp is still around 70 and I've been swimming each of the past three weekends. Good beach weather....Bad striper fishing weather. Bait has started to migrate south but no big fish on them. There are seabass and tog at the inlet. More searobins than I've ever seen. Croakers at night time. Mornings are cooler now so I expect the striper action to start in the next two weeks.
  • Sept 2, 2003: For the past four days there has been loads of seaweed in the ocean and it hasn't been very fishable. There is plenty of spearing in the water but we need a few more days to have the ocean clean up.
  • August 7, 2003: Herring have showed up in great numbers in the Barnegat inlet. This is very early for them. Herring are like candy to a striper. Use a sabaki rig or small spoon to catch one, then try live lining the herring. You can also use a snag rig to catch the herring. If there are herring there will be large bass underneath of them. Try to get your bait down to the bottom quickly to avoid any blue fish. Water is still cool. Mid sixties.
  • August 2, 2003: Headed up to the Point Pleasant inlet last night as the strong south winds continue. There were tons of spearing in the water and shad were all over them. You need to use small teasers, kastmasters or sabaki rigs to catch them. These were so thick you could walk across the inlet. Just get there before sundown. If you want flounder, you can fish from the wall. Use Spearing.
  • July 30, 2003: Went crabbing today on the M&M Dock on the bay. Caught lots of large crabs in a short period of time. Chicken or bunker for bait. Most crabs caught on the hand lines. Plenty of spearing in the water and the 3 inch blue fish which are great flounder bait. The ocean surf was rough with a low pressure system off the coast. Lots of weed and sea robbins. Ocean has warmed to the mid 60's. Stripers still around.
  • July 17, 2003: Bait fish are all over the place for the past few days. The birds are diving between the swimmers and the waves to get them. Blue fish are chasing the bait and stripers are under the blues. Ocean temp is UP to 74!
  • July 9, 2003: Fished the IBSP north jetty today. Strong ne winds. Lots of sea bass in the inlet. Use small hooks with 1/2 inch piece of clam. Caught many but most were small. Sea Robbins and calico crabs in the surf. After I left the Stripers came back in on the next high tide. Oh well.
  • July 4, 2003: We have had a tremendous spring time run of stripers, weakies and blue fish. Fishing continues to be hot but no quite as good as it had been earlier. There are still schools of bunker moving up and down the beachfront. If you get out early and find the birds working you can have a ball on some large fish. Water temp is in the mid 60's but some days it's higher so the larger fish shouldn't be around too much longer. On the positive side, there are reports of king fish being caught. I really like kings so if I get a chance I will try for them in the next week or so. Last year I found a school of large kings and was able to catch on on every cast. It's been a month since my previous report. Sorry for the delay but the fishing has been real good.
  • May 20, 2003: We had a nor'easter this week. Really unusual this late in the year. Water temps have dropped to 49. Not good for people but the fishing has been great. Monster drum fish caught(100 pound new record). Many large blue fish all over. Large stripers too. Now the flounder and weakies are hitting too. Blowfish have made a comeback this year. Get to the shore and fish if you can. We have openings during the week. Use clams on bottom rigs for stripers. Use bunker or mullet for blues and weakies. I've caught keeper stripers every time out this spring. If you have never caught one this is the time. (PS fish just before or after high tide and improve your odds). Stay at our house and I'll show you two fishing holes within easy walking distance!!!!
  • May 6, 2003: Man o Man.....If you can get to Seaside Park get here.....Blue Fish have come in. Big numbers....Big fish....You will stop fishing when your arms get too tired....30 or more fish per person.... Many Stripers under the blues too. Flounder have started and weakies too. A 13 pound weakie was caught. A 14 pound tog was caught... Water temp has risen to 51 degrees. Get here....Rent my place..... Get here..... Call in sick....Saturday and Sunday it will be too crowded....Best fishing ever....Don't miss it....
  • April 25, 2003: the weather has improved greatly. Many people out walking the boards and enjoying the beach. For me, I enjoy fishing. The fish have started and we have had a 30 pounder caught here in Seaside Park. I caught 5 stripers on Friday night(See the picture above for my first). There were some larger fish caught too. The rivers are loaded with spawning stripers this year. We are going to have a great spring as these fish leave the rivers. Water temp is just 46 degrees so it's cold for the fish. You should be here. I have openings up til May 16th. Email me now to reserve place and you could be fishing this weekend. If you don't know how to fish I can show you what you need to know.
  • March 23, 2003: Weather at the beach was fantastic. Temp in the hi 60's. Ocean temp is still a little on the cold side 42 but there were some kids that went in swimming. Fished for an hour with no luck. Got cleaned off, but no fish. Probably ling as there were reports they were around. Winter flounder are being caught on the bayside near the Pelican Island Bridge(Using blood worms).
  • Feb 8, 2003: Ok this report is from NC Emerald Ilse, north inlet near the fort. Two stripers were caught here this weekend. Very rare to catch stripers this far south. Many Red drum being caught in the inlet. Most around 20 inches. Weather...well it was 20 in NJ but 71 in NC. Had to leave and come home to a snow storm(12 inches in Seaside Park).
  • Jan 1, 2003: Fishing slowed down this past weekend. On Saturday I landed a nice winter flounder and 1 striper. Most of the stores have closed and fresh clams are hard to find. I'm using salted clams now and maybe that's why the slow down.
  • Dec 20, 2002: Fished Friday night for an hour, Landed 1 striper. Fished again on Saturday morning for 2 hours, 2 stipers and some skates. Lots of hits but I didn't hook them. On Dec 24th reports of lots of bait in the water but no fish on them. I'll try again this weekend. All fish on clams hi/low rig.
  • Dec 15, 2002: Fished this past Friday eve, just before a rain storm. Landed 9 Stripers and two winter flounder. Fished on Sunday the 15th for 2.5 hours and landed 16 stripers. All on clams. HI/LOW rig. Seaside Park NJ. Next year why not rent one of my homes for the month of Nov or Dec and join in the action. If the water stays warm we will catch stripers all year long. There is a local population that stays all year, they just don't feed when the water gets too cold.
  • Dec 8, 2002: The weather was great today. Hi temp about 49, sunny and not much wind. Ocean temp is around 49 too. No crowds now. Fished the outgoing tide today. I caught over 25 stripers but only one keeper. I also caught many fluke!!! All legal size but I had to release them as they're out of season. Great day!!!!
  • Nov 27, 2002: The striper season is in full swing now. Last Friday I had 16 stripers in the AM. I had two keepers this morning. Last night I ran into a blitz as the stripers had bunker trapped on the beach. All big fish. My friend also caught two flounder off of the beach. A large summer flounder and a winter flounder. The weather on Friday was great, temp was 61 degrees. Much colder today.
  • Nov 11, 2002: This weekend the fall striper fishing really got into gear. Schools of bait fish moved thru IBSP and we caught lots of stripers and large blue fish. Someone called them Gators. Nice weather too. The air temp was in the high 60's and the water in the upper 50's couldn't have been better. Biggest fish caught this weekend was 56 pounds. I wish that was my striper. I'll be fishing each weekend now and 1 or 2 nights per week. Email me if you need current updates. Still have an apartment available for the month for a fisherman.
  • Oct 10, 2002: The fall striper season has just started and some big fish have been caught already. A 44 incher was caught this weekend in Gov's Tournament in IBSP. I caught a 33 incher and a slot. Last Thursday the King fish were bitting like crazy. Caught one on just about every cast. On Sunday the Croakers took over and I went thru 16 clams in no time. Plenty of bait in the surf(Peanut Bunker and Mullet). The ocean is still around 73 degrees and I've been swimming every weekend. Great time to be at the shore!
  • Sept 10, 2002: Fishing action is starting to heat up. The fall striper run will start soon. There's lots of bait in the surf(Peanut Bunker). Ocean temp is still warm (75 degrees). False Abecore have been caught off the beach as the sun sets. Plan your weekend trip now. Striper season will be in full swing by mid Oct. and runs thru December.
  • August 21, 2002: Crabbing has been good. Fishing has been OK with lots of small blue fish being caught. The surprise this year has been a large number of cow nosed rays being caught right off of our L street beach. These rays have wing spans up to four feet across. They are easy to catch BUT you have to have a good rod and reel. These fish can really swim and will take about 150 yards of line on their first run. Best way to describe the fight is like this: take your fishing line and hook it to the back of a pickup truck, tell the driver to floor it and go for a block or two. You can't possibly stop or even turn these rays. Many people have been completely spooled by them. It's a fight you will never forget!
  • July 22, 2002: For the past week the ocean has been LOADED with small blue fish. You can catch one on almost every cast right from the beach near L street! Use almost any kind of lure but small metal lures work best. Flounder fishing has not really heated up from the beach. Haven't caught a striper in a week. Crabbing on the bay side is excellent. You should give this a try. There are two free crabbing docks nearby. When you stay at our 9 L house you can use our crabbing traps and nets for free!!! The ocean is warm around 73 degrees. Plenty of weakfish being caught in Island Beach State Park(If you have a four wheel drive).
