Annotating Made Easy

Annotating is the process of adding text to a gif or jpg, as to personalize or identify the image. It is a fairly easy process, if you have some basic HTML skills. I am going to teach you how to annotate.

The first step to annotating, is to find something you would want to add your name to... as a gif or jpg of a flower. For this lesson I am going to use the following flower gif. This was found through a Lycos Search Engine.

Now that we have the gif we want to annotate, the question is, where do we go to annotate? The answer is Image Magick and here is the link to

Image Magick:

Now we pick up the url of the flower and go to Image Magick. Paste the flower url into the blank area and click on "view". You will now be taken to a page that shows your gif. In the scroll bar below will be the width and height of your gif. Please click on "annotation" .

On the next page you will now type your name in the square provided. Remember to leave one space before your name when you type it into the square. this assures that it will be centered.

The next thing to do is to decide which font we will use. I am going to use Queens Park Bold. Click on the style of font you wish to use.... You can see the different font styles by clicking on the word font. Use your back key to return to the annotation page after you have made your font selection.

Now we need to know the colour of the text you want. Again, you can click on the word colour to view the colour chart. After you make your selection, type in the color in the space provided. I chose "tomato2" as a close enough match. Please consider the colour background you will be using the final annotated gif on, when making your text colour choice.

You must now select a font size. I am using 50 for this gif. You can experiment with the size you like best. Type in the size for the font in the space provided.

Check your work: 1. Name is typed in. 2. Colour is typed in. 3. Font has been selected. 4. Font size is typed in.

Now you need to decide where you want the text to appear. In this case I select "North" from the pull down menu. And now that we are ready. Hit Annotate.

There on the next page will be your flower gif with your name where you selected. If you do not like it, hit the back key and choose over. Here is my annotated flower.gif

If you like what you have created. Hit the word "Output" at the top of that page... The next page you will select gif or jpg, depending on whether your flower was a gif or jpg. You can also change a jpg to a gif and vise versa, should you prefer it that way. Now click on "single file" and the "Output" button. There on the next page is your annotated flower ready to click on and transload. Congratulations!!
