In The Beginning?

Is 'Paradise City' purrfect?

Spanish Version  En Español 2

When I first began this website in January, 2000, I wasn't sure of the direction it would go when I decided to label all religious stories as a bunch of fictional nonsense.   However, now I am quite sure that I am doing the right thing by being as honest and informative as I can be.   So, no criticism of the Holy Bible would be complete without a brief summary of the book of Genesis' first human characters, Adam and Eve, and their family.   How this book ever disappeared from the category of ancient folklore or even ancient mythology is beyond my comprehension.   All I can do is point out the stories that make no logical sense to me.   Why these stories seem to make sense to religious believers is a topic for a qualified psychologist to address.

The book of Genesis is supposed to be the first recorded history of life on earth as it actually happened.   Within it are some very interesting stories written by an ancient Hebrew author.   Although, by chapter three, it stops making much sense:   Why, exactly, aren't there any more talking serpents alive today, besides the one in this fictional story?   (It really surprises me that believers can believe such nonsense when given the fact that not one "known" animal, except for a human, is capable of having a meaningful conversation with someone.   Unfortunately, that fact does not stop them from believing that this fictional story is sacred.)   Then, Genesis 3:20; states, "Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living."   I will use that one verse, alone, as a tool against the logic of chapter four.   By chapter four it completely stops making any sense, by forgetting about that one verse.   For instance, Genesis 4:14-15; states, 14; "...and whoever finds me will kill me." 15; But the Lord said to him, "Not so; if anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him."   Okay, since I am only a secular thinker with no seminary training, I need to know the answer to one little question:   Who, exactly, besides Adam and Eve were supposed to have been alive at that time to kill Cain? (Who was the he that the Lord referred to when he said, "he will suffer vengeance"???)   According to Bible verse, Genesis 3:20, there can only be one answer:   Noone else was supposed to have been alive at that time!   The meaning of that verse is very clear and it cannot be overlooked or disregarded simply to make the rest of the story look good.   Please think about it.   How could Cain have been worried about being killed by whoever found him if he was supposed to have been the only man alive other than Adam?   Plus, Cain could not have understood what his Lord was saying to him if noone else was alive with his parents.   Apparently, the author never gave it much thought either.
Then it becomes completely absurd in verse 17; "Cain lay with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch."   I have another little question for you:   Where exactly did she come from all of a sudden???   For crying out loud, there is written proof that Cain's wife did not come from Eve.   Apparently, believers are not reading every single word of the story.   Because, no more than 8 verses later, it is clearly written:   Genesis 4:25; "Adam lay with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, "God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him."   (Either most believers have never questioned this dreadful nonsense or else they have never read the whole story very carefully in the first place.   They should be ashamed of themselves for being fooled so easily.)   Next come chapters five and beyond which, of course, deal with my favorite fictional story of Genesis.
Religious believers have a lot of explaining to do.   If I was a qualified psychologist I would definitely help them to examine their beliefs to see why they believe this illogical nonsense is true to them.   Unfortunately, I am not one so I will always have a serious problem with religious believers.   Even though they are being misled by greedy frauds and swindlers in disguise as the clergy I still cannot fully trust them.   Since they are paying dearly for having such a strong faith in something that is unknown to them, I do have some sympathy for them as they blindly follow those creeps.   But, I do not have much trust or respect for believers because they do not care about "verifying" the truth.   Religious believers are naive, gullible, and easy to trick by believing in something without having any visible evidence to verify it as being true. (The fact remains that there is no visible scientific evidence which proves the existence of an all-powerful Creator.   Plus, I would rather know that God is real through some sort of physical interaction than to merely believe in a god without ever being able to interact with this god in person.)   For this reason religious believers and nonreligious believers like me will always have a very tenuous relationship.   Even though I would like to help the gullible clergy members, who are throwing their whole lives away by believing in fictional Bible stories, I cannot trust them because they belong to the organized Church while they attend seminaries, work in churches, or reside in convents and monasteries.

As a side note, I just want to admit that even my own mom is very religious.   No, mom, I can't give you any credit for finding the fact that in Genesis, Chapter 1, "God" was the main character and in Genesis, Chapter 2, the "Lord God" then became the main character.   However, in Genesis, Chapter 3 - the word, God, was used in the dialogue between the serpent and the woman, in place of the Lord God, their Creator. (Let's say my name is Lord Michael and I procreated two intelligent sons.   I, like most fathers, would expect them to call me father when talking to me and Lord Michael when talking to others about me, i.e. King James was an understood name then just like Queen Elizabeth and President Bush are understood names now.   Children do not say their father's first name only or their father's last name only when they talk to him or about him.   Do you?)   Just because my mom thinks that this story really makes sense to her, it doesn't change the fact that the rest of the chapters of this fictional book make very little sense, at all.   I wish you the best though, mom.   I Love You.
