THE HUMAN HEART
(1/8 credit in PE)
Go to the Franklin Institute Online to begin your journey to the heart.
Select each of the items that are highlighted near the bottom which says:
"Explore the heart. Discover the complexities of its development and structure. Follow the blood through the blood vessels. Wander through the weblike body systems. Learn how to have a healthy heart and how to monitor your heart's health. Look back at the history of heart science."
Each of those sections have links to other places as well. You certainly may (should!) explore those places. I'll clue you in, though, that the links to "activities" on the Healthy Heart page don't work properly.
From the Monitor Your Heart's Health, DO go to the vital statistics link. There is some great information there! Sad to say, the activity on this page doesn't work properly either.
At this point, you have thoroughly read a total of SEVEN complex web pages. Each page holds tons of information.
You have two tasks ahead of you.
First, you must construct a multiple choice quiz (using either HotPotatoes or a word processing program) with 50 questions from those seven pages. At least five questions must come from each of the seven pages. Be sure to have a key for the quiz available. Each question must have four reasonable answers as choices! Because I don't know as much as I wish I knew about the human heart, I will take your quiz! You get to grade my effort and explain the ones I get wrong (and I bet THAT will take a while!)
Second, you must answer the following short-answer questions in complete, correct sentences.
1. What does knowing more information about the human heart have to do with your personal ability in physical activities?
2. How did the pages explain why it is important to get involved in physical activity on a regular basis?
3. How did the pages help you to plan and achieve health related physical fitness goals?
4. Knowing what you know now about the human heart, what do you know about risks and safety factors related to the heart and physical activities?
5. How does the heart connect age and sex (male or female) with physical ability?
6. How important is physical activity in relation to the human heart and lifestyle?
7. How does heart health connect to mental health? social health? emotional health?
8. How could your behavior affect negative heart health and disease?
9. How could each of the following affect your personal heart health in a positive OR negative way?
a. your family | |
b. your friends | |
c. your community | |
10. How does the government affect heart health? What more could/should the government do?
11. What could/should you do in order to prevent heart disease as you get older?
12. Describe what you would do if you wanted information on a particular disease. |
