Using Search Engines WELL!
Before using search engines, you should understand HOW to use them. It's all too easy to alternatively find nothing about a topic or to find 4 million pages. The Internet, either way, can be an exercise in frustration. Each search engine has its own specific "quirks" and tricks.
For example, you can add a taskbar to your desktop which lets Google search for anything you highlight. Pretty nifty!
AltaVista allows you to search in specific domains. For example, you can search only in government sites with the command:
domain:gov "lunar lander"
Or check what sites link to another using the command:
link:www.altavista.com
There are a lot of good basic Web tutorials which include search engine information and more! Below are some favorites. These also often link to the many engines out there. Time spent with these is time well spent!
