March 2000

31 Days of Oscar
…And the award for Best Performance goes to....any one of Turner Classic Movies' 360 Academy-Award-winning or nominated films. This March, TCM serves up "360 ways to connect 31 days" in our sixth annual 31 DAYS OF OSCAR festival. This year, Oscar comes full circle when 360 films, each one a winner or nominee, are connected by actor, director, or writer. So San Antonio (1945) starring Errol Flynn is linked to The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) with Claude Rains. Rains links Robin Hood to The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965) with Janet Margolin who then appeared in Annie Hall (1977). Beverly D'Angelo who appeared in Annie Hall then connects to Coal Miner's Daughter (1980) with Sissy Spacek who connects with Jack Lemmon in Missing (1982). Keep your eyes and ears open-the actor's role can include narrator, voice-over, or very obscure bits such as "man in the phone booth."
