Jim Glunt

Where are you from?    I grew up in Irwin, PA, about 20 miles SE of Pittsburgh

Where are you from now?  I've lived most of my life in New Mexico, so when I "go home" now, I go to my son's house in Edgewood, NM.

What do you do in Desert Reign?.  I play bass and help with the other stuff as needed.

How long have you been playing music?    I've sung all my life, but I've actually been playing music on stage for 41 years.

What Instruments do you play?   I mainly play bass, pedal steel guitar and rhythm guitar. I also mess around with lead guitar, mandolin, and keys, but I can't honestly say I play those.

What is your favorite instrument and brand? My favorite instrument is pedal steel. Favorite brand? Any well built professional model. And when it comes to bass, I'm a fan of Steinberger.

Who are your influences in music? As a youngster, I grew up listening to gospel quartets like the Blackwood Brothers and Hovie Lister and the Statesmen. Later I got into rock music where my influences range from the Beatles to James Taylor to James Brown to Crosby, Stills and Nash to Led Zepellin. Then I got into country where I've enjoyed Merle Haggard, Highway 101, Asleep at the Wheel and many more. I even enjoy a number of different jazz artists and have been influenced by some of that. Glad, Andrae Crouch, the Archers, and Sweet Comfort Band have been some of my contemporary Christian music influences from the past.

What did you do before full time ministry?  Most of my "day jobs" during my adult life were in the trucking business, both as a driver and in management. I spent about 26 years playing country music part time also.

How long have you been a minister?  I was called to be a minister when I was just a teen. I followed that calling both full time and part time until I was about 31 years old. I've been back to that calling nearly two years now.

How Long have you been saved?  I accepted Jesus as my savior when I was 8 years old. At age 31, I rejected God and my Christian heritage. I've been back with the Lord about six years now. Thank God that while I left Him, He never left me.

What do you think is the secret to a successful ministry?

Dependence. As long as you are totally dependent upon God, your ministry will be a success because it's Him doing it and not you.
