Tim Sears is from Borden, Indiana; a little community in the hills.

His father, Charles Edward Sears, known as Eddie was called to preach when he was 18.

Tim’s earliest memories of his dad are street preaching, with powerful signs and wonders following, healings, deliverance.  Eddie was a fine pastor serving the Lord for over 65 years.  Tim says he had the very best example of Jesus exemplified before him in his father.  He watched his father immediately obey the Lord many times, to go and minister to a stranger in restaurants, leaving his own meal behind.  One of his hobbies was racing and he became lovingly known at the racetrack as “The Flying Parson”.  He passed away New Year’s Day 2000.

Tim’s Mom, Nancy, is still living in Indiana. She was the perfect match for Tim’s pop.  She was always ready to minister to anyone at the drop of a hat. Tim recalls her honoring and respecting her husband very much. She was a vital part of his ministry. She constantly encouraged Tim in his music. Concerning his life, he says, “If it wasn’t for my mom praying, I know I would have never made it.”

“I came to the Lord at 12.  I was moved uncontrollably.  It was like walking on air.” says Tim.   This became the reference point in his life when he was in the world, he always reflected on this memory, and still does. He has been playing drums now for over 37 years.   For the past 20 years, he has been working with songwriters.  His gift seems to be in encouraging those original artists to realize their dreams.

Tim recalls, “I never consciously walked away from God.  I found myself doing things the world was doing.”  Even when he was doing things that he knew did not please God, he could still feel God’s grace upon him which he attributes to his mother’s prayers.

There are times when he would just begin to minister Jesus to his friends and people in his life without ever meaning to.

The relationship with God is such a one on one thing…While Tim had a great and living examples of real Christianity in his folks, he did see many “phonies”, which he referred to as “chumps”.  He said, if you watch the “chumps” long enough they will show their true colors.  Those kind of folks cause others to stumble.

Tim played all types of music, starting in gospel, some rock n roll, to Scandinavian, to Irish, to Hungarian, jazz, country, blues…etc.  He determined to be the perfect side-man. “I only wanted my name known among musicians, not out there in lights.” he explains.

“I will never ever get over the day I met Desert Reign.  Here I was out in the country, taking care of horses, I was moving out of the performance thing, I had begun teaching young people to play drums.  A year before, I had told the Lord, if You want me to go to the coal mines in KY, (which was the worst thing I could think of), so be it.  If you don’t want me to play drums again, so be it. Then,

Mike my pastor, called and asked if I would help these folks bring their equipment. RC and Sam were playing these electronic drums one on the bass drum and one on the snare, while they were playing their guitars, funniest thing to look at, I tell you!

I had made up my mind I would not pursue playing for Desert Reign.  So I literally sat on my hands, but agreed to sit in with them this once.  As soon as I played with them, I wanted this thing, but was determined, not my will, Lord but Yours.  So I kept my mouth shut.  And then they asked me to continue playing with them.

“The preparation for this moment began 30 years ago.  Now when someone comes up to me and say’s I got this hang up, what do I do?  I know what they are talking about. Whether it is a problem with women, or drugs, or desiring fame, walking in faith, whatever it is, I UNDERSTAND them.”

Concerning smoking, Tim was free four years ago.  I had quit before in my own power for two years. Every day, every moment I had to fight temptation.  Eventually, Tim gave in and began to smoke again.

“To be part of Desert Reign Ministry I was compelled to not smoke.  It was too hard, I just couldn’t do it!  I asked them to pray for me, and was expecting this parting of the Red Sea thing to happen, but it was just a quiet not wanting or desiring to smoke anymore.  I haven’t had a cigarette since Jan.17, 2005. And God gets all the glory!” says Tim.

Lori is interviewing Tim about his art:

Lori: Tim, how long have you been an artist?

Tim: I’ve been draw and painting little doodley things since I was a little one.  I was always making little things for friends and family, and they suggested I try to sell some things.  So, 5 years ago I started selling original art in bookstores and by word of mouth.

Lori: Tell me about the bookmarks

Tim:  They are one of a kind/ two sided, individual work of art on each side, watercolor.

Lori: When we were in Willcox, you got a certain opportunity concerning your art work, can you tell me more?

Tim: A well known artist in the Southwest saw some of my art in an espresso shop. It was a piece I had done personally for Tom, the owner. She seemed to enjoy the work and felt that others would be interested in seeing my stuff.  I submitted a number of pieces for viewing at art shows of their choosing.

Lori: And this was something you never pursued?

Tim: That is correct.

Lori: You have “Caleb the spy” mugs available, and I researched and printed the scriptures concerning Caleb, He is a fascinating character! Why did you choose Caleb.

Tim: He is a great example of faith! What was so inspiring to me about Caleb is only a percentage of Christians knew who he was, but all of the Jewish people I encountered knew exactly who he was!

Lori: Do you think most people want to pattern themselves out of the bigger characters of the Bible like Moses, and Noah, Elijah, and so forth?

Tim:  Ah, the “A –team” guys. Maybe so.  They tend to not pay attention to the smaller characters, and their stories are no less dramatic. But the B-team guys, although they are not necessarily in leadership capacity, are solid examples of walking out their faith through submission and humility.

Tim: (Laughing!) it is just now dawning on me, it is no wonder that these kinds of characters are appealing to me, because, I have always had the desire to be such a good side-man, and that’s what Caleb is.
