Roswell
If you are looking for something that is out of the norm, you will find it in Roswell.
Maybe you haven't heard yet, but in 1947, a strange crash happened at Mac Brazel's ranch, located very close to Roswell. The legend goes that it was an alien spacecraft, and the military is hiding the results. Even if you don't believe this conspiracy theory, you will enjoy this town and all it has to offer.
One of the biggest attractions is the Roswell UFO museum, the biggest museum dedicated to UFO's in the world. They have a walkthrough tour, a gift shop, a research library, and a ticket office in one easy to swallow package. It is very great. Also, if you walk down the street a little bit, you will find lots of neat gift shops that specialize in alien memorbilia.
Roswell has that small town feeling, but in reality it is the heart of Southern New Mexico. I really enjoyed my stay there, and would recommend a visit down there, too. But be sure to rent a room with a great air conditioning system, because it can get very hot down there.
