Beta Lambda grew and was very active in District (III) and National affiars. In 1961, after holding various District and all National offices, Brother Thompson was elected Grand National President of the Fraternity. He was GNP until 1963. The chapter remained very active, hosting two District Conventions with Upsilon, our Tau Beta Sigma sister Chapter. These Conventions were held in 1963 and 1978.
Beta Lambda prosperd with the School of Music until the mid-80's, when attendance at many colleges and universities was down, ENMU and the band where particularly hit hard. At this time Upsilon,TBS, folded and KKPsi was hurt and forced to go Inactive from 1986-1988. Since that time the band and chapter have remained loyal through many hard times when it seemed we would falter and not recover. Several years of bad leadership have caused us to work extremely hard to stay alive. Today the future of Beta Lambda is a little brighter, though as they say, we are not out of the woods yet.
We are the only Music oriented Greek Letter Organization on the campus as well as the 2nd oldest chapter of any fraternity or sorority on campus.
We would like to thank everyone that assisted in making our 50th Anniv. Celebration a success! It was a pleasure to see so many brothers, both actives and alumni come together to celebrate 50 years of brotherhood and service. Special thanks to Bro. Angie Carter for all of her time energy...not to mention all of those sleepless nights! Job well done, Bro. Carter!
