Experimental Archeology (AKA Trekking)
You guys ever stop to think about what a strange hobby/vocation we have? I often wonder if this is the first time in history that
people from one time period have tried to reconstruct life in a different period. I've been an avid student of history and archeology my entire life, even going back to college a few years ago to study more formally. Officially I'm relatively new to re-enacting. I'm just now joining the New Mexico Mountain Men and putting together a real outfit. But I've been doing 'period treks' of a sort since childhood, in a couple of cases staying out in the mountains for months at a time. I cracked up the first time I read Mark Bakers comments in Muzzleloader about only carrying 1 wool blanket. There were a few Rocky Mountain summer nights at 10 and 12 thousand feet where I nearly froze off some parts I wanted to keep 'cause 1 blanket was all I had. Now I'm not doubting that Mark stays out, even in the winter, with one blanket. I'm just pointing out that he's tougher than me. :) This part of the site is gonna cover trekking. I'll be adding more to it as we go along. When I find good sites I'll link to them, and I'm open to suggestions or comments that anyone else has.
