According the Mao legend, "Makhrifii" is the birthplace of our
Naga ancestors who later migrated to different regions. 'Makhrifii', generally accepted as
the original homeland, does not conclusively prove our antiquity and origin. But the
existing ancient monuments of megaliths, relics, sacred trees, etc., of 'Makhrifii' and
its vicinity clearly confirms this tradition.
Marabu (Banyan Tree): An ominous tree at 'Makhrifii', believed to have grown over the tomb of the 'mother' of Ora,
Okhei and Omei (God, Tiger, Man).
Chitebu Kaji (A Wild Pear Tree): This was the 'Naga dispersal tree' planted at Upper Shajouba (Mao). The generations
of 'Makhrifii' origin shall be known by paying reverence to this tree.
Makhrimei Movuochi (Residence of Makhriimei King):
This is a 'Sacred and miraculous' place where the king preserved 'Chovo'
- lucky stones 'Oraphaye' - a miraculous tool; 'Khibi' - a miraculous trap; and 'Olozho' -
a cicada-like insect which sings sweet melodious music.
Totsiifii: It is in the middle of Makhrifii where we
can feel the winds that always blow from all direction.
Tamara Fiitu (Dispersal Monolith): It is in Makhrifii where the three sons of the 'First Man' - Aleo,
dispersal after they hosted a grand feast. Their names are:
1. Asiipfo Alapha : Kolamei
2. Tutowo : Mikriimei
3. Khephiwo : Nagamei
Ochatu (An undeciphered monolith): An undeciphered
monolith having all the assignment of God about the whole universe of the past, present,
and the future.
Khubu Ridzii: A miraculous powerful
gun, which obeys the command of the proprietor.
Rapre: It is an ominous 'Gods hut'
where no one is allowed to enter or even have a glance. It is looked after by the King.
Miledo: This is known as the place of origin of "MIMA" people but migrated to the northern region after
misappropriations of their wealth.
Shiku Rahu fii: This is the place where a beloved son
of a 'Mother' became a bird known as 'Shiku Rahu'.
Chobu Okhro and Koziinho Mate: 'Chobu
Okhro' is a place like 'Purgatory' where a dying soul takes rest and the "Koziinho
Mate" is a place of "deadline" of a dying soul.
Maje: Some people believed that many years ago the
heavenly moon drank water from this river and smeared its face with mud which became a
natural dark mark.
Chacho Korii: This was the river where the people paid
their homage to God and consigned to 'burning fire' a little part
of what he had possessed.
Lahori: This is a strange river in the "Shivo Korii" where the river-flow
disappeared.
Chokhobo Do-ozhe: It is our tradition belief that the
deepness of this sea was up to the knee-level and it was forbidden to flush out (water)
from the sea.
Chamizhe: Our tradition believed
that whoever dreamt this particular sea led a prosperous life.
Dopezhe: This small sea had a peculiar shape having
the shape of "Dope" - a tradition weaving rod.
Krokhe and Maki Khe Ozhe: these are very old 'brine mineral water ponds' which is believed to cure many sicknesses.
Ora, Okhei, Omei Tamara Fiitu: Oratu, Okhetu and Omei
tu were erected before the three brothers (God, Tiger & Man) departed from the middle
land, Our tradition believed that the Tiger became a rare animal due to the fall of his
stone. But the stone of Man and God remained firm and if the stone of Man fall - all
humanity will perish and if the stone of God fall the whole universe will come to an end.
Chakhetu: The Mao Warriors
took whether behind this monolith and miraculously escaped from their enemies during those
'Head hunting's' days.
Mizhatu: "MizhaTu" was
the stone erected at a place where the tiger dropped down its Mazha (mat) tied on his tail
on their dispersal day.
Tole Tuke: This is the place where the 'Male Eagle' and 'Female Eagle' stones
were erected called - 'Redzii Tu' and 'Rekrii
Tu' respectively.
Hudzii Motu Tu: A menhir having
the shape of a cock's comb where the Mao warriors killed their enemies by using tricks.
Nebi Tu: This menhir is believed
to be an ear of a warrior, which was cut down during those 'head hunting' days.
Pima Kosii Tu: It is an erected stone where the
orphans were brought to measure their height to check sustainability.
Ochu Kosii Tu: People used to
enquire any specific information from this menhir which always responded what exactly it
was and what should be done.
Oto Kokhutu: This stone was erected to measure the
height of a child to check the capability of becoming a cowherd.
Shihra Tu: A 'fortune stone', which was shifted near
'Makhrifii' by their villagers.
Onapfoto Kohrii tu: It is our
traditional belief that people who have long desired for a son used to climb up on this
monolith without the support of their hands. He is sure to be blessed with a son if he
succeeded.
Ora tobu chu tu: A stone where an 'unblemished sacred bull' was tied to check the outcome of a
particular region for the days to come. |
