Stealing Babies:page 3

alone with the body. Mimi began to cry. Cry for the poor person that Brian would kill. 'This is all happening because of me.' she cried silently. 'Matt, please help us. Brian's crazy. He'll hurt Lilly.' "Mimi! I'm back!" Matt yelled. "Mimi! Are you here?" no answer. "Mimi!" he said worried. "Mimi where are you?" he ventured into the house, traveling from room to room. Still, he didn't find her. There was a sudden knock on the door, that startled Matt. He walked over to the door, and opened it, only to see a Fed-Ex man smiling. "Is there a mister Yamato Ishida here?" he asked perkily. "Yeah. Right here." Matt said. "This is for you. Please sign here." Matt took the pen that the man was holding, and signed the slip of paper. "Thank you, and enjoy your parcel." he then took off, back to his car. "Hum. What could this be?" he wondered, as he tore open the package. A single object fell on the floor, sending a loud pinging sound through the apartment. Matt picked it up, noticing it was the ring her had given to Mimi. "Oh shit!" he exclaimed, as he tore open the gift, searching for something else. He found it. The note. He read it quickly, as he tore out of the house, back to the police station. "Now I've got both of them. Still haven't figure out who I am yet. Not only are you blind, you're also deaf!" that was it. In a short amount of time (mainly because he tore through red lights, and didn't stop for stop signs) he reached the police station. "Andrew!" he screamed. "The stalker! He's got Mimi! He's got Mimi!": "What are you talking about Matt. How do you know?" he asked, putting down his coffee, and turning away from his fellow officers. "Look!" he said holding up the blood stained ring. "Matt. How do you know that's Mimi's? It could be anyone's for all we know!" Andrew said skeptically. "You don't go a year and a half of looking at the same object every single day and not be able to recognize it!" he exploded. "Was there a letter?" he asked, putting his past doubts out of mind. "Here!" Matt threw it at him. "Hey Matt. What are you doing here?" asked Joe. Matt spun around, and was met by the smiling face of Joe. "Joe!" Matt said surprised. "Dr. Kido here, has volunteered to help us out with some of our cases. We needed the opinion of a doctor, and Joe was kind enough to volunteer." said Andrew explaining. "What are you doing here Matt?" asked Joe again. "Remember a while back Mimi had that stalker problem." Matt said. "Yeah." Joe said, pushing his glasses a little up his nose. "He kidnaped her. She's gone. He has my family Joe!" Matt said angrily. "Oh man, Matt. I'm so sorry. If there's anything I can do." "Unless you can get Mimi and Lilly back, you can't so anything." he said coldly. "Did he leave a ransom note or something?" asked Joe. Matt handed him the slip of paper, and Joe read aloud. "Now I've got both of them. Still haven't figure out who I am yet. Not only are you blind, you're also deaf!" he re-read the last part several times, thinking of something. "What is it Dr. Kido?" asked Andrew. "Not only are you blind, you're also deaf. You see, blindness, deafness, and muteness have been classified as the top three worst conditions that you could be diagnosed with. Blindness being the first, and muteness being the second. That's all. It just struck me as odd, that a kidnapper could put something that medical in a ransom note." "Matt, do you know anyone that would want to hurt Mimi or Lilly?" asked Andrew. "No." he said simply. "Any friends that have been showing odd behavior? Who knows you better than you do yourself?" "None of the guys have been acting weird. And the only people that know me better than anyone, besides Mimi, is Chris, Ken, Brian, and David. My best friends." As he spoke, Andrew took down the names, and nodded at a few of them. "What about Chris? Would he want to hurt any of you?" "No. His girlfriend, and the girl he loves more than anything, is pregnant. He was jumping for joy when he heard the news, after he woke up that is." said Matt smiling. "Ken?" "No. He's been out of town for a while now. Mimi was worried he would miss the wedding. He's my best man." "Brian? "It couldn't be Brian. He's mute. The stalker called Mimi." Matt said, growing weary. "Brian's not mute." laughed Joe. "Where'd you get that idea from?" "He told us he was mute." said Matt not believing what he was hearing. "No. Brian just had a bad case of laryngitis. He should have been better months ago!" said Joe. "Wait, you don't think?" "I bumped into him on the way out of the house! He works at the hospital! He's been lying to us about his voice! God! How could we have been so blind!" Matt said hitting his head. "So. This Brian character. He's the one who took Mimi. And Lilly. And killed all those innocent people." said Andrew disgusted. "But why?" "I don't know." said Matt, keeping his anger in check. "But he won't be alive long enough to tell us." he stormed off to his car, and took off to Brian's house. ************************************************************************ Brian stared out at the city from his roof. He stared at the flashing lights. Heard the sounds. Savored the smells of the many restaurants. Everything was beautiful. He glanced over at something just as beautiful. Lilly. He must admit, that even if she was Matt's child, she was a beautiful baby. She had gotten several sizes larger, and was the size of a normal baby now. She had begun opening her eyes, showing two large azure pools. Every time Brian looked into her eyes, he only hated Matt more. But, Lilly was still an baby born prematurely. Her organs were still underdeveloped. She still needed all the heavy machinery to stay alive. He liked that idea. 'Her life is still for the taking.' he thought. He looked over at the city one last time, one building in particular. The old shoe factory. "Poor Kenji. Poor, poor Kenji. You never really had a chance." he smirked, before taking the elevator back to his place on the main floor. ************************************************************************ Mimi was crying her eyes out. Brian was going to kill Matt. Plain and simple. He was gong to kill her fiancee, and then he was going to kill her baby. She wasn't even sure he'd keep her alive. But she didn't care. She would gladly welcome death, if the people that meant the most in the world to her, died. The door slammed shut. Her head bolted up again. She had expected Matt to come down, carrying Lilly in his arms, telling her how Brian was behind bars, safely locked away. But she sadly saw Brian coming down. An enormous box in his hands. "Why are you doing this?" she asked, quivering. "Partly for you. Partly for me. You see that guy over there" he said pointing calmly. "Yeah." she said quietly. At least now she knew it was a man. "That was my dad. He was the most pathetic excuse for a man, if I ever saw one. Everyday when I can home, he would hit me. He would always be drunk. There was always a tall glass of whiskey by his side." he said painfully. "He would beat me until I bleed. Always comparing me to Matt. Nothing I ever did was good enough for him." he looked at her. "Matt always had everything I ever wanted. He had a mom. His dad didn't hurt her, until the point she couldn't take it, and packed up and left. She left me Mimi. She left me alone with him!" "I'm sorry." said Mimi sadly. "That's not the best part. Matt had that adorable younger brother, that was sweeter than sugar. He had the perfect grades. He was popular. He was athletic. He had the most beautiful girlfriend." Brian listed. "He was Mr. Perfection. Nothing was out of his reach. He didn't have to scrape through life, just to get noticed!" he screamed, as he threw a knife at the wall. Mimi screamed as it connected, embedding itself in the wall. For the first time, she saw the room. The pictures of herself. The pictures of Matt. It made her feel sick. "Matt drove me to this!" he said sternly. "He made me what I am today." he said a little more violently. His left eye began to twitch. "Kill her now. Before she gets away!" he told himself. "No!" he said lighter. "She lives until everything is complete! You're just afraid! You're a baby! Just kill her! You're going to jail no matter what. Better make your last kill, the one you're remembered for!" he said, in the more violent voice. "Brian! What's wrong with you?" Mimi said. "Shut up! Just shut the hell up!" said Brian, covering his ears with his hands, and running upstairs once again. "Brian!" she screamed, worried about Lilly. 'He's not crazy!' she realized. 'That's not the Brian we grew up with! He has a split personality!' Matt drove furiously over to Brian's apartment complex. Once he pulled up to the front door, he plowed it down, and ran through his house. "Mimi! Mimi where are you?" he screamed. Mimi looked up. She had heard her name being called, but she thought it was her imagination. "Mimi!" he shouted louder. This time Mimi was sure it wasn't her imagination. "Matt." she whispered. "Matt!" she whaled. "The basement!" Matt dashed over the where the basement was located. He tore open the door, and ran to Mimi. "You're alive!" he said kissing her, and hugging her close. You're alive!" "Matt." Mimi said hastily. "Brian. It was Brian! He killed all those people, and he has Lilly!" "I know." he said, still holding her. "Did he hurt you?" "Not physically anyway." she said. "Where is he?" Matt said angrily. "I don't know." she said. "I don't know!" she cried. "I'll find them. I'll bring Lilly back. I promise." he said kissing her forehead. "Matt!" Mimi called out. "He's not Brian! He's unstable." she warned. "He'll be dead if I get my hands on him." Matt said seriously, as he ran up the stairs. "Be careful." whispered Mimi, not even audible enough for her to hear. Matt checked the whole apartment building. He found nothing every time he open one more door, losing one more ounce of confidence, in finding his child. "Where the hell are you Brian?" he asked himself, over and over again. He rested his back on a nearby wall, looking up at the ceiling, not really knowing why. He opened his eyes wide. 'The roof!' he realized, not finishing the thought. He bolted over to the elevator, and jabbed on the up button. The doors opened, and he hurried inside, pressing the close door button. He, impatiently waited till the doors open once again, revealing the top of the building. "God you took long. I was waiting for a good half hour." said Brain grinning. He was playing with Lilly. "Get away from her Brian." threatened Matt. "Or what Matt? You aren't the one in control here. I am." he said wickedly. "Brian for the love of God, don't hurt my baby." pleaded Matt, stepping closer. "Matt, you remember Ken don't you?" said Brian. "How could I forget him? He's my best friends." said Matt, not doing anything to set him off. "Well, in 7 minutes and..... 32 seconds, he's going to die. You have a choice right here, right now. The life or your baby, or the life of your best friend. Ken's in a building, dying as we speak, I might add." he said very composed. "What..." mumbled Matt. Everything hit him, in one swift blow. "You kidnaped Ken didn't you? That's why he hasn't been answering his phone!" "Guilty as charged." Brian said happily. "Can you guess where he is? It's been all the buzz around here." he taunted. Matt thought about what was going around town in the last few weeks. He had been so caught up in his own personal problems, to really notice anything. "6 minutes." said Brian looking at his watch. 'Think Matt! Think!' he told himself. "The shoe factory!" he blurted out. "Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner. Hurry." he smiled, returning to Lilly. He took his forefinger, and tickled the underneath of her chin, making her squirm. Matt looked at Lilly, and looked at the door. His feet moving, he ran for the door, and the factory. "God forgive me if anything happens to her." he said, jumping down flights of stairs. Luckily for him, the old factory was only 2 blocks away. Matt was running really fast, to get there on time. The demolition crew's vehicles were in his sight. He was almost there! '4 minutes.' he reminded himself, as he plowed through the crowd of curious spectators. "Stop!" he yelled. "There's someone in there!" "What?" said one of the construction men. Matt didn't have anytime to waste. He pushed down the man guarding the gate, and ran into the building, trying to find Ken. "Hey! Come back here! The building is going off, on a timer!" the man called out after Matt. "Man. He must have a death wish. We can't do anything for him now." Matt jumped over fallen debris, and large, fallen pillars. Several old wires were sticking out of the crumpling walls, cutting his cheeks and neck. He didn't care though. He was just following the trail of footprints, left in the dust, by Brian. He reached a small half broken door, and slammed into it. The fumes from the explosives were making him dizzy. Then, he saw him. Ken's head was lobbing numbly to its side. He was barely conscious. "Ken!" Matt said running over to him. He saw to locks on him, and figured out he couldn't take them off, so he did the next best thing. He began kicking at the pillar. It fell easily, as he slammed his foot into the rubble. Ken looked over at him. His eyes pleading with him, to help him. Finally, Matt had gotten far enough, to just pull the chains. Ken slumped to the ground, as Matt pulled his legs through the opening. He draped him over his back, and started running with him. He got a glimpse of his watch. 2 minutes. Thankfully, Ken wasn't that heavy, so Matt didn't have that much trouble carrying him to the door. Matt saw the opening. He saw all the people staring in, whispering about the crazy fool who ran into a building, minutes away from exploding. Once everyone saw him, they gasped. Two very muscular men came running over to him, and helped him with Ken. "Get down!" screamed one of the men. He pushed Matt forward, sending him fumbling onto the ground. The building then exploded into a fiery blaze, sending pieces of debris falling inward, and dust outward. The force of the dust hitting Matt, sent him rolling into the crowd. He instantly looked for Ken. The two men were standing up, holding him in their arms. Matt sighed heavily, and then sped back off to Lilly and Brian. "Please be still alive." he prayed, as he dashed up the many stairs to the rooftop. He hit the locked door, till it opened. He fell to the his knees, gasping for air. Small fragments of rock falling from his hair and clothing. "You're still alive." Brian said sadly. He dragged his hand across the keys of the controls on Lilly's respirator. "Leave, her, alone." Matt gasped. "You want to know something I found really interesting Matt?" he said, looking into Lilly's eyes. "Did you know a baby, can go without air for 3 minutes, while adults can only go without air for 2 minutes? I found that really interesting. I mean, how is it a baby. Something so small and fragile, can go without air longer than a full grown human. It struck me as odd." he wrapped his fingers around the cord, that was in her throat. "Just one little tug, and we can put that theory to the test." "No!" Matt screamed, getting up. "Oops!" said Brian, as he pulled the cord, straight from her mouth, causing her to chock and gag hysterically. "Lilly!" yelled Matt, as her ran for the cart. Brian simply kicked it past him, and punched him in the jaw. "Nah, ah, ah. Not now Matt. We're preforming a test." "Brian you bastard!" Matt said, running for Lilly. "Oh no you don't." he said, as he tackled Matt's legs, causing him to fall and hit his head. "Get off me! She's dying!" Matt yelled, kicking Brian in the face. Lilly coughed and gasped, not able to breath. "That's the point you idiot! I said one was going to die tonight. You chose Ken over her. It was your choice!" said Brian throwing him into the wall. Matt heard a loud snap, when he made contact, but ignored the pain, as he ran over to his daughter. "You think I'll let you get away that easy!" Brian shouted, grabbing the collar of Matt's shirt, choking him to the ground. He placed his hands around his neck, and began to strangle him. "See that Matt. That's your life dying. Everything you have every wanted is now dead." he laughed. "And now I have Mimi all to myself!" "Never!" he grunted, sending his elbow into his stomach. Brian doubled over, as he gasped for air, trying to still hold onto Matt. "I'm coming Lilly!" he said, standing up very disorganized, and walking over to her disoriented. His head was spinning from Brian's strangle hold on his neck. "You'll pay for that one Matt." said Brian, still catching air. Matt walked over to Lilly, her small body was convulsing heavily, and her face was turning purple. She opened her eyes, and looked straight at Matt. He stood frozen. Her eyes paralyzing him. A smile crept on her face, as she reached out to grab his hand. Matt, shocked, extended his hand, slowly reaching out to touch his baby. She made one last chocking sound, as her small hand fell to her side, and her eyes fluttered shut. "Lilly no." cried Matt. Tears streaming down his cheeks. "Don't die. Please don't die." But it was too late. She was already gone. Her life taken away from her. She was dead. Matt inhaled deeply, blinded by tears and rage. "I'll kill you, you son of a bitch!" he said, lunging at Brian, who had just stood up. Brian was laughing. "How's it feel to have nothing now?" "I have something!" said Matt, throwing him close to the edge of the roof. "I'll have the satisfaction of knowing you're dead!" Brian pushed Matt off him, like an insect. He began to back up. "Well, my work is done. Right now, you have the death of your child on your hands. That's the worst punishment I could have ever wished for." he stepped onto the ledge of roof, and spread his arms wide. "Goodbye Matt. It started off as stealing babies. And now it ended as killing babies." With that, he leaned backward, and flew off the roof. "Brian no!" screamed Matt, running after him. He heard a terrified scream, and a screech from a car. He dared to look over the edge, seeing his once friend, squished like a pancake. His face unrecognizable, through all the blood. He turned away, and walked over to Lilly. She looked as if she was in a deep slumber. Never to wake up again. Memories of what was supposed to happen, flashed before his eyes. They were supposed to be together forever. Mimi, Lilly and himself. He solemnly guided the white blanket, covering her body, over her face, and walked out the door. Down to Mimi. She heard the door open. Seeing Matt's face she looked up hopefully. Her eyes widened. Matt looked at the floor, and shock his head sadly. Mimi opened her mouth, to say something, but cried instead. She cried and cried, not knowing what else to do. Matt walked over to her, and hugged her. He undid her binds, and let her arms wrap around him. He cried with her. Sitting in the dreary basement, of the man who killed their child, they just cried.......... 5 MONTHS LATER "And do you, Yamato Ishida, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife. In sickness and in health. Till death do you part?" asked the priest. "I do." he said smiling. "Then by the power vested in me, I pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride." Matt obeyed happily as he kissed Mimi, sending an uproar in the crowded church. Confetti and rice were throw at them from every angle possible. Cameras flashing, and video tapes whirling. Matt and Matt ran through the swarms of people, to their limo, that was waiting for them outside. It had been 4 months since Lilly's funeral, and the adoption of Derek. Mimi and Matt were now married, living the life they had always dreamed of. Even thought they still missed Lilly terribly, they let her go. They adopted Derek, and he now had the life style he deserved, thus ending my story. I hope you liked it.
