Because You Loved Me
Author: Cassidy_TR

For all the times you stood by me
For all the truth that you made me see
For all the joy you brought to my life
For all the wrong that you made right
For every dream you made come true
For all the love I found in you
I’ll be forever thankful baby,
You’re the one who held me up Never let me fall, You’re the one who saw me through it all.

Cassidy sat on the couch deep in thought it had been a long time since they had successfully completed a mission without ending up in jail. If they didn ’t do something right quick the boss might split them up. For her that would be a fate worse then death. She wished Butch was there but he had gotten a call that his parents had passed away and needed to attend their funeral across country. He had asked her to come but she said she’d rather not because funerals got her all depressed and she didn’t want to be a bother. He’d only been gone a day and already she felt like she was going to die. Without him there was nothing to do except sit around and think about ways to make amends with the boss. Which was easier said then done. If only I could think of a way to.. Her thoughts were interrupted by the phone ringing she jumped up to get it in case it was Butch. Unfortunately she was wrong.

“Hello?” she said

“Is this Cassidy Altis?” The unfamiliar authoritative voice asked.

“Yes it is. Can I help you?” She replied curious as to why the authorities were calling her.

“This is the Celadon City Hospital. There was a plane crash and we believe you know one of the victims named Butch Thompson?”

“Is he alright?”

“He’s in critical condition”

“Where’s the hospital again? Celadon?”

“Yes”

“I’ll be over there in a few hours”

“Okay he’s in room three-twenty-seven. And I’m sorry”

Of course Cassidy didn’t hear that last part she had hung up the phone, grabbed her car keys and purse, and was already out the door. As she drove down the road she could feel the tears threatening to spill. If I had went with him maybe he’d be alright. She thought even though she knew it wasn’t her fault she knew she’d never forgive herself if he died before she got to see him.

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn’t speak
You were my eyes when I couldn’t see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn’t reach
You gave me faith coz’ you believed
I’m everything I am because you loved me

Two hours later Cassidy pulled into the parking lot of Celadon City Hospital. She got out and walked tensely to the door she was worried about Butch and since she was still in uniform she was expecting comments and trouble. She walked through the door barely holding back her tears as the reality of what had happened sunk in. As she got on the elevator she heard some comment about her, she shrugged it off easily she was used to it by now. She punched the button for the third floor and waited anxiously to get there. After what seemed like an eternity the door opened and she walked over to the nurse’s station to ask where his room was. The nurse told her that it was down the hall and to the right, and that he was still unconscious but she could still go in and see him. She finally found his room and took a deep breath as she opened the door and stepped inside. Just looking at him made her feel like her heart would break. He was hooked up to countless machines and bandaged. He just laid there perfectly still the only movement being his slow breathing. She unconsciously felt the tears rolling down her cheeks as she sat down in a chair beside his bed waiting, and wishing, for him to wake up.

You gave me wings and made me fly
You touched my hand and I could touch the sky
I lost my faith you gave it back to me
You said no star was out of reach
You stood by me and I stood tall.
I had your love I had it all
I am grateful for each day you gave me
Maybe I don’t know that much
But I know this much is true
I was blessed because I was loved by you.

She sat there for hours waiting for a slight movement or change in his condition but none came. She sat there looking at his pale face and gently brushed his teal bangs out of his eyes. Come on Butch you can’t die now She thought holding his hand. Not after all we’ve been through. You’re the only one I have please don’t die. I love you. As she thought this she felt hot tears welling up in her eyes she quickly brushed them away and took a deep breath. She closed her eyes for a moment. When she opened them again Butch was smiling at her gently a message of love in his soft brown eyes.

“You’re a wake” She said enthusiastically

“Yeah” He replied hoarsely “I woke up a few minutes after you dozed off”

“Why didn’t you wake me up?” She demanded trying to sound serious although it was hard when she was so happy.

“You looked to peaceful” He replied

She smiled. Typical. She waits for hours for him to wake up and when he does she ends up dozing off. She hugged him, or as best she could while he was hooked up to the machines. He embraced her also although it was a little harder for him being the one hooked up to the machines.

“So when do I have to go back to work?” He asked Way to ruin a moment Butch.

“When ever you the doctors say you can I guess” She replied

“Guess it’ll be back to Love Power again in a few weeks huh?” He asked

“Yep.” She said nodding

“I can’t wait” He said smiling at her.

You were always there for me
The tender wind that carried me
A light in the dark shining your love into my life
You’ve been my inspiration
Through the lies you were the truth
My world is a better place because of you.
