Is it possible to do a one card reading? What information might the card have for us on a stand alone basis? Do we need other cards to make a *story*?
My feeling here is that one card readings can be used effectively in many ways. They are also an excellent learning tool - as they encourage us to look deeper into not only the text meaning of the card, but what it says to us on an overall visual basis and what each symbol within the card may mean.
I have chosen to use The Devil as my example. Let's take a look at the different ways The Devil can be used in a one card reading.

In general - I don't like yes/no questions - I see them as limiting. But there are times when they can be useful. In the case of a one card yes/no - determine beforehand which direction (upright or reversed) will be yes and which will be no.
Question: Is the timing good to look for another job?
Answer: Upright = Yes; Reversed = No
We can draw a card for meditation in two basic ways: by taking a random card and meditating on that to see what insight comes through, or by purposefully drawing a card for understanding in a current situation, for insight into our own personalities, for spiritual growth or perhaps simply to understand the card itself better. Some things about The Devil that we might want to consider:
1. In what way am I making judgments about things?
We can choose to draw one card a day with either a specific question, or a general feeling of "What do I need to know?" Question: "What do I need to know about today?" Answer: I need to be aware of how I am makng my judgments - to look beyond surface appearances. I need to allow myself to look at the truths in my life, and feel comfortable with them. I need to acknowledge that I am placing limits on myself, and see what purpose this is serving. I need to see how I can open my personal space, my boundaries, and live from my heart.
Question: "What can I do to stabilize my finances?" Answer: The Devil speaks of confusion, of not seeing things clearly. When this happens, there can also be an accompanying physical sense of depression. The first thing you need to do is look at how you deal with finances. How do you see your personal ability to make sound financial decisions? What limitations are you putting yourself as far as actively making financial decisions, and allowing yourself to open the boundaries of financial opportunity? Who are you allowing to limit you? Allow yourself to look at you actions in your financial sector with humor. Take a deep breath - and know that once you understand the why you will be able to make decisions that allow you to direct the flow of the how. Look at how you view your finances, then look at all of the financial opportunities surrounding you. Open your personally imposed limits of what can and cannot be done.
