Why do we read with spreads? Why not just draw cards and tell a story? In using a spread we are placing a foundation for the reading - a form which gives definition to the meaning of the cards. How can we use three card spreads?
Method #1: Shuffle the cards while concentrating on your question. Cut the deck and draw three cards. (Decide beforehand which will be yes and which will be no - upright or reversed.) Question: Will I pass my drivers test? Answer: Two upright, one reversed. If you have decided that upright is yes - then the answer is yes. If you have decided that upright is reversed, then the answer is no. Method #2: Shuffle the cards while concentrating on your question. Cut the deck and draw three cards. This time, each position is read seperately.
Position #1: What may happen if I take this action. Question: Should I continue in my current relationship? Answer: (Ancestral Path deck used) Position #1 - Four of Cups: If you decide to stay with this relationship, you will feel held back. It is not supportive for you. The thing to think about here is what do you want from a supportive relationship - and does this one have those qualities. Position #2 - Six of Sacred Circles (Pentacles): There is a sense of gifting yourself with a type fo freedom here. In leaving this relationship - you would be opening yourself up to many other opportunities and experiences. Position #3 - Queen of Swords: Where is your joy in life? Are you able to express it while in this relationship? What is holding you back? Your creative self needs the room to be expressed.
Shuffle the cards with your question in mind. Draw three cards with the following positions in mind:
Position #1 - Past (What got you to this point.) Question: What do I need to know about my current project to move it forward? Answer (using the Ancestral Path deck): Position #1 - Nine of Cups: You were able to see the project and your part in it clearly. You were working with people that were very supportive. At some point you may have lost yourself in your work. The question to ask here is how are you manifesting the vision of your project? Are you perhaps using the work for self gratification? Position #2 - Four of Cups: You are currently in a plateau of boredom and discontent with your project. Look at what the goal of the project was/is - try and move away from what it is in your life, what it contributes to you. Position #3 - Six of Sacred Circles (Pentacles): When your work has become refocused, it will regain its strength and sense of purpose. It will give back to the larger community what it was supposed to do. In releasing your sense of self, you move past the blocks and bring the project to a successful completion.
Shuffle the cards, keeping your question in mind. Draw three cards, with the following positions defined:
Position #1 - What aids me?
Answer (using the Ancestral Path deck): Position #1 - The Hanged One (The Hanged Man): This is a time of transition in your relationship. The key here is to look at the issue from a different perspective. Go within yourself to see what your needs are - what you feel is or is not being communicated that you need to have there. Look at what you are worrying like a bone - what is holding the relationship back from your point of view. Position #2 - Nine of Staves: Your challange is being willing to do the internal work that is required for good communications (or in getting your partner to do the work needed on themselves). Ask yourself what strengths and abilities you have that you can use in this situation. Position #3 - Queen of Swords: Something to look at here is: Are you listening to your partner? How are you using your own ability to communicate? The Tarot Connection - The Tarot Podcast dedicated to the traditional, historic and modern Tarot.
