This tutorial will show you how to make a tube
when your don't have a clean background.
Open a picture that you would like to use
for your tube. In this one, I used this picture of
Betty Boop. If you would like to use this one,
then just click on here and save it.
The first thing you do is go up to View, then click on Zoom in by 1. This will make the picture bigger and let you see the outline a little closer. If you need it closer, repeat this step until you feel comfortable with the way the outline looks. I did it twice. |
Now you pick the freehand tool. |
In the tool options palette, use the following settings. |
We will be outlining Betty Boop and the pedestal she is standing on. I started at the bottom left of the pedestal. Just follow the outline by putting the mouse in your starting point and clicking the left hand button. Follow the outline until you have a curve to do. Click the left button again without moving the mouse. Do this everytime there is a curve or a turn in your outline until you have completely outlined your picture. When you get to where you started, double click the left hand button on the mouse. This will start the marching ants all around the outline. It will look like this. Look closely to see the outline. |
Go up to Edit, then click on copy. |
Now you will have to open up a new image by going to File, then click on New. |
Use the same width and the same height of the original Betty Boop picture which is 248x357. 248 is the width and 357 is the height. You can see where the setting asks for the color. Choose transparent and click on OK. |
Now you go up to Edit, then click on Paste, then on As new selection. |
Adjust your picture where you want it on the transparent image and click the left hand button on the mouse to set it. |
Go up to Selections, then click on Select None. |
Now go to File, then click on Export, then click on picture tube. |
You will get a box that will look like this. |
Just use the default settings and where it says Tube name, go ahead and name your tube. You can add your name after it if you want to. Then click on ok. You just saved your picture tube. |
